You can really see the heartbreak on both of their faces. For McGonagall, disappointment in seeing what her peer was all along, and Snape, likely thinking “if you only knew…”

After everything she disvovered the truth and always wanted to apologise for calling him a coward😢

It's not what if only she knew. He thinks the face of the person that he had to fight is someone he respects deeply. He clearly doesn't want to fight her.
Must give credit to the actors for doing such a fine job portraying those emotions
Her level of focus and intensity portrayed in her facial expression just screamed she had every intention of murdering Snape for what he did…this scene was very well done for the actress
Even people thought Snape a bad guy but he actually a good person in disguise as a bad guy! HE A GOOD ACTOR!!!!

Also if you watch very carefully, he intentionally deflects her attacks at the two enemies behind him and as he leaves his shadowy form darts to where they were stood. I am not sure if he was taking them with him or just grabbing their wands on his way out but either way he made sure they were no threat to her or the kids! All while appearing to be a cowardly villain! True heroism!

He blocked end hit the death eaters on purpose and took there wands he's the hero
Alan Rickman made Snape so much better than the book Snape. He conveyed that Snape still respected her in this scene. In the books it didn't read like that.

The small movement of lowering his wand for a second 🥺 he never attacked back, only defended and cast the spell to the death eaters 😢 by far one of the best scenes and you see just how talented of a wizard he was.
I felt like he wanted to give up at that moment but not fighting her equals the end for everyone.
I noticed that too. He quickly raised knowing that he couldn’t be left defenseless. 😢

Snape really sacrificed everything for the people he cared about was even willing to be hated by them but he never hurt them i love these movies and books.
My favorite part is that Rowling told Alan her grand plan for Snape from the very beginning. So each movie, Alan knew more than everyone else.

Perfectly deflected her spells to the death eaters. Thinkin and taking action by Immobilizing death eaters smoothly before leaving any chance of their suspicion in that short and critical moment - Severus is stunningly deep and genius.
Snape actually redirected Professor McGonagall's spells towards the two death eaters behind him, so as to make sure That the Hogwarts castle was free of death eaters after he left, which would give them enough time to get ready for the war with Voldemort. He wasn't a coward, but was rather a misjudged character throughout the series.
He did his work as a double spy.
Best char from Harry Potter series no doubt.
I'll give you snape was no coward, but if he was misjudged it was by the readers who blindly think him a hero he was sn absolute bully and a creep (mind you i love his character but he's not a good dude)

Maybe that's why Minerva let him go. She pauses her spellcasting right after Snape uses her own spells to smoke them. Perhaps she saw a glimmer of light in him too.
The hesitation at the start when he draws his wand back, but realizes his only option is to commit. Amazing acting. Such subtle hints.

Yes, the edgy angry man who got rejected by a childhood crush who bullied multiple innocent kids is a hero.

It was all in disguise not to look too soft and caring for Potter or any of the kids to gain Vold's trust. but yeah, He was always there for them and He always protected the kids whenever he saw them in real danger and awkward situations. Harry found at last what snapes did all along to sacrifice for him.

Remember when Harry called Snape a coward after the death of Albus? How hurt and angry Snape was for being called that. Until I watched PT2 and saw the end of the movie, then rewatched the series did I see that look and understood it. It is hard to do the right thing when everyone your doing it for hates the sight of you, but you keep going because you have to.
One of my favorite scenes in the entire series. It’s so emotionally charged, pure drama. Both professors are heartbroken having to duel each other, but both do what must be done. Bravo!
Alan’s subtle ability to show the pain in snapes eyes after realizing he’s lost probably the last person who he had is amazing.
The man was a terrific actor
Must be very hard when u know that everyone believes you were a snitch. Looking in the eyes of friends, the disappointment, shame, anger... and then getting attacked by them.
His job as "special agent" had its price.. this cold man was full of love.

It's hard for a secret to stay a secret once you tell just one other person, and they then become vulnerable to attack.
I'd read all the books before seeing the films, and knew what was going to happen but it was done so well that I was still caught up in it.
That's the power of fantastic storytelling.

My heart broke for Snape over and over.
After taking out the other death eaters, he even snatched their wands. If you didn’t notice watch again, you can see him bouncing between them before taking off.
I had wondered why he flipped back and forth. I thought it was just him being Snape and being ✨dramatic ✨ but he actually took their wands that’s so wild.
I always learn new things reading the books and watching the movies ❤ love this incredible story of selflessness.
Snape reflected it to those two death eaters in reality. Even in this situation he was being a total gentleman. I love Snape.

Read the books again. The Carrows weren't even there in the books, Harry had already taken care of them, nor were any students besides Harry and Luna, under the invisibility cloak.
He actually took the wands before leaving through the window. Watch it again as he bounces twice beside them before leaving.

I know that's a common thing in fanfics because people like the potential of McGonagall's and snapes friendship. honestly my hope for the Tv show is they try to be more faithful and tell the stuff they didn't before with the extra allotted time but also take some risks and make some changes that would benefit the story. like doing more with draco and give him a better redemption, make McGonagall know Snape's a spy. show the quidditch world cup etc.

McGonagall and snape you could admit didn’t use their full potential in this fight. Of course McGonagall definitely tried a little harder than snape and snape held his own against her. But he couldn’t do it for too long
For one of them to win they need to show their full potential to out do one another. Don’t just assume snape wins.
Snape is the most heroic character from the whole series IMHO. He does what is necessary for even though you can see what he has to do for good to win kills a part of him everytime he does them. I dare say very few heck maybe no other character from the movie is strong enough to do what he had to do. Snape is one of my absolute favorite movie characters in all of moviedom
