I think the sheer number of parallel types is what really got out of control between 2012 > present. I know you were mainly focused on base and silver in this video, but I think the parallel variety is a real factor, here. Their ascendency has been pure insanity, to the point where the overall number of different TYPES of Ant Man overshadowed Luka. Just another reason the base Ant Man was potentially: Less produced, less desired, less graded, etc. This factor is multiplied by even more sets released in 2020 (vs. 2018), which just computes to an astronomical amount of Ant man RCs (vs. Luka). It kills me when someone’s proud they got a /99 card, and don’t think about all the other parallels of all the other 50 flagship set varieties out there (let alone the non-flagship set varieties). It’s honestly overwhelming. And absolutely understand why lower and lower serial numbers start to be the only cards that matter (longer term).
2020 Prizm ran into multiple huge roadblocks, the big one being that PSA was closed. It's also the worst centered prizm product in recent history. Panini also may have had production issues and the overall quantity produced may not have been as high.
How about wembanyama prism 2023? That print run is huge. I think panini print on demand... hype rookie classes will have a higher print run. Think about it
Maybe. But there weren’t literally millions of parallels and inserts for each player then like there are now. Not thousands, not tens of thousands. Literally over a million parallels and inserts for 2020-2023 players.
Look at all the numbers just based on tge print run and check out how big the rainbows get every year, a 1 of 1 os nowhere as special compared to when topps and fleer did it, PANINI makes 1 of'1s for almost every card. Prove me wrong
At height of interest luka was top 3 guy, edwards was far far away. probably 3 times more gem luka than psa 9 with them resubmitting for 10s. I want to grade my cards for beckett as want to bury them with me, but I can't when price is so different so just not grading as hate psa population control on things like mattingly rookie.
Great video as always. A couple of things- Doncic was the Wemby of 2018…no one else was in the picture. In 2020 Prizm, Lamelo Ball was more hyped than Edwards, or at least on equal footing, and neither were nearly as hyped as Luka or Wemby. See Wemby’s pop count. He is in 2023 Prizm and already has 10,500 PSA 10’s…more than double Anthony Edwards. Also, you mention in your video that 2020 Prizm was released and being broken during the height of the PSA shutdown and/or $100 grading fees. NO ONE was grading Anthony Edwards base. Silver was the only thing that made sense to grade during that time, which explains why there is not as much disparity in sliver pop counts. It was only during the end of this season and during the playoffs that Edwards pricing began to take off and everyone (including myself) went digging out all the Anthony Edwards card to send in. 😂
He’s significantly more accomplished and by every measurable standard he’s much better. You may not like him more or you may think Ant projects to be better but as of right now it isn’t remotely close
As much as I hate their watered down product, Prizm is in the Mt Rushmore of trading cards in literally every single sport (maybe not baseball)....even effing UFC for duck sake. Also, if starting up a team today with Luka & Ant available for 1st pick, 9 out of 10 Coaches go with Luka....he's still head & shoulders better than Ant

Trae Young was in the same draft as Luka....so was Shai. I don't know if SGA, was as popular then, but Trae Young had a good amount of hype.
Makes a lot of sense Daniel. Even with that timing though my point is that you’d think there would be 2-3x silver prizm ant vs Doncic but there isn’t.
I think the price of wax had a lot to do with it in 2020, also PSA prices. Silvers are hard to come by though.
