This was my first time hiking and backpacking in the Mount St Helens area and it was awesome! Thanks to my friend, Clarkia for motivating me to get out here and explore a whole new place this past weekend. We had quite the adventure over the last two days and 1 night. Mount St Helens was amazing and the views were insane the entire time we were out here.
And here I was worried that I might not have gotten enough footage of our trip. Thank you for always being such a wonderful model and waiting for me each and every time you smoke me when hiking uphill. More sunset sing-a-longs from our future campsites please. Already looking forward to our next adventure. Love you lady!!
Love it! What a great trip. I remember my sister had a pen pal in the 80s who sent us a packet of ash from the eruption. We lived in Indiana and the pen pal lived in Washington and she just got the ash from her yard!
Glad you enjoy the Holy Moly Breakfast Bars. Speaking of food (and your great suggestion), I have another backpacking food recipe video I'm working on. Stay tuned!
Fleetwood Mac is typically the soundtrack to a lot of our trips, especially during snack breaks and time at camp. On this particular trip though, we had an Eagles singalong at sunset. :)
Thank you! Glad you liked that one. I was pretty rushed with getting ready for this trip since I had a busy workweek. So as I started packing, I thought, why not show exactly what I was feeling while I was packing? For this trip, throwing everything in one big pile and then packing from there felt the most authentic. Once it's all in my pack, it's quite organized. Getting to that point though is always the challenge. Hahahaha!
The weather was amazing. It was warm and there wasn't a whole lot of shade, but there was a constant nice breeze throughout our whole trip that made it really enjoyable. I agree. It's very otherworldly out there. I loved it!
Another great video. That's a bucket list backpacking trip. I was a kid when the volcano erupted. We could hear it all the way up here on Whidbey Island. Hopefully you didn't hike in the crazy heat we've had here in WA. Was water much of an issue?
We did this one last weekend, over the Fourth of July holiday. It was warm and there wasn't much shade, but there was a nice breeze the entire time. Luckily we missed the crazy hot weather from the week before. Water was scarce and we definitely had to plan accordingly, especially since we camped at a dry camp during our trip. Along the way, we encountered a few, really nice, cold, clear streams, heading in both directions. We made sure to fill up and enjoy every single one of them. For the most part, I carried three liters of water with me while out here, just in case.
I feel you. This one was tough without hardly any shade and scarce water sources, but the views more than made up for it. I'm glad we did this one the first week of July instead in August when there would be less water and hotter weather.
Nice Video! I like the way you identified all the food you took with you. I was out there on the 4th of July. Hiked out to Harry's Ridge, and up to Coldwater Peak. Stopped at a snow field near the top of the peak. Yeah, I went through all my water too. I was sucking air towards the end of my hike! Did you take a side trip to Loowit Falls?
Glad you enjoyed the video. I try to switch it up with each of my videos and present my food, gear and actual trip a bit differently each time. Super cool that we were out there during the same time. We were even kind of on the same trail for a bit. I remember the turnoff for Harry's Ridge. We decided not to take the side trip to Loowit Falls. We were pretty impressed with being able to see it from where we were at on the trail.
Heading out on this trail this month! Thanks for the inspiration! A bit nervous about Windy Ridge...how did you do it with your pack? Water - I noticed you used your Sawyer filter. Did it have issues with clogging due to silt in the water? It was recommended I use Aqua tabs instead, but what do you think? Excited for this trek!
We just did this trail last weekend. It was nice to have your video review. Found plenty of water along the Truman Trail with all the creeks, and another spot along the Abraham trail about a mile after the crazy ladders area. Camped on Abraham Plains and hiked out to Pumice Butte area for another water refill at a creek that waterfalled over the cliff. Lots of campers there. Scary, crazy narrow trail up toward Windy Ridge! So nice to know others had gone before us. What a wonderful backpack trip!
What beautiful views! I think this may be the smallest amount of food we've seen you pack for a "multi-day" trip lol. What kind of sunscreen do you use when out hiking?
I've been trying to better dial in my food carry on my trips this season. Each trip, I tend to carry a little bit less. And here on this one, I thought I still had too much food. I think I just need to eat more when I'm out there.
The views were insane along our whole trip! That's a Stasher bag. I've been loving the reusable Stasher bags for my shorter trips recently. That particular bag is their snack bag and can be found here: alnk.to/eDKUWqW
Lovely Video. Thanks for sharing! Wanted to ask you two things…I saw you crossed a stream. Are there other water sources along this loop you did? Also how do I get an accurate read on what the temperature is going to be? Planning on hitting it this weekend.
Thank you! Yes, we crossed a couple different streams while out there. Some were running clear and some were rather silty. Overall, there wasn't a whole lot of water out here when we were here. Visit the WTA link for this trail in my video description. On that page, there will be a link for Mountain Forecast. I always check that for the area before going on any trip. Good luck!
Hiii i have a question for you... do you consider the things you eat on the hike pretty salty? does that makes you crave more water appart from all the hiking
I sweat a lot when hiking so I need salty food along with electrolytes to replenish what I lose when sweating. Everyone’s body is different. This is what I find works well for me.
St. Helens was perhaps the most beautiful volcano in the world before it blew! Remember it well, was 23 at the time of the eruption. Recovery has been slow, definitely starting to look better now.
Amazing! What a beautiful location - I'm sold :) Thank you for sharing! I was wondering what would be the best time of year to do this hike? Do you think you'd do it again in early summer or was the temperature a little too warm?
Great question! Since there's not a lot of shade or tree coverage on this one and water sources were scarce, I'd probably recommend this one for early season. So spring time once the snow has melted and early summer. I fear later in summer (in August), there might not be a whole lot of water out there and it will be much more hotter. For ur trip, I felt like the weather was perfect and we packed plenty of water so we were never without. Be sure to camel up at the trailhead and each of the water sources.
WOW, beautiful video! My friend and I were planning on doing the same route too this weekend! Quick question - did you carry 5L of water to start out with, and did you find that amount enough? Seems like a lot, but also seems like a super dry trail :o Thanks!!
Thank you! I only carried 3 liters of water with me at a time while out here on trail. I have the capacity to carry 5 liters, but only had my hydration reservoir filled when hiking. You are correct in that this one is a very dry trails nd I imagine it will only get drier with the warmer months. I'd recommend filling up on water before getting to camp. Our camp was dry and we had to resort to melting snow in order to have enough water for dinner. Good luck and have fun!
Great video, my friend! Lovely hiking adventure! The nature is amazing, too.. Those mountains are incredible...Enjoyed watching a lot! Cheers from Russia, guys 😊 , and how about visiting my channel as well? I've got something to share about camping hacks and tips ! Anyway, best wishes in all your plans and beginnings! Best Regards, Yuriy!
Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion. Keep in mind though, what you find interesting, might not be interesting to someone else. This is why I like to change up my videos. For this video, I decided to start off the video with a narration of the entire hike and then not narrate during the hike, but sprinkle in a bit of commentary. Other videos, I narrate throughout. I've learned that I'll never please everybody with how I make my videos, which is why I make them for me and what I enjoy.

Love Mt St Helens !! Thanks for taking us along!
This was such a fun trip. I can't wait to go back and explore more of the area.
YES!!!! What a beautiful reflection of our trip! Love hiking with you queen!

You smoke me on the downhill so we’re all good. And anytime queen! I love being outside with you.
Awesome hike! Great video. Your shots keep getting better!
Thank you! This was a really fun trip.
Great weather and great views
I 100% agree. We got so lucky with the weather and views.
Totally cool.
Glad you enjoyed this one!

Beautiful trip I'm very jealous. I love your holy mole bars how about some more trail food recipes!
Glad you enjoy the Holy Moly Breakfast Bars. Speaking of food (and your great suggestion), I have another backpacking food recipe video I'm working on. Stay tuned!
Great video it looked like a lot of fun and that you had a blast filming it
I sure did have a blast out there. It was such gorgeous scenery!!
Yass! Loved hearing the Fleetwood Mac in the background on one of your snack breaks. Looks like y’all had a good time!
Fleetwood Mac is typically the soundtrack to a lot of our trips, especially during snack breaks and time at camp. On this particular trip though, we had an Eagles singalong at sunset. :)
@@TheHungryHiker nice!
That opening shot of u tossing ur gear in pile was great 😅 nice sidestep from the typical organized displays

I had a blast out there. Pun intended! Thanks for watching!!
Beautiful views ! Thanks for sharing .
Glad you enjoyed it
Your friend was so excited with the dancing lol Glad yall had a good trip
That’s her “happy hiking” dance. She did it in our Wonderland video too. 😂
Great Video! 👍 Love the way you show your Load-Out... Excellent! 👍 Keep it up! 😏👍
Yay! Thank you! Glad you liked this one!
Looks like you had good weather for your hike. Mount St Helens is an other worldly place after the eruption.

@@Alohasheree I 100% agree!
Very cool ladies 🤠
Thanks for watching. This trip was amazing. Take me back!!
🥰 what a hike! Looks awesome.
It was so much fun!!
I’ve been wanting to go to Saint Helens! Might just have to do this one as well!
Yes, you should!! I'll be going back for another visit.
Nice video but I just couldn't do that trail... no shade!

When I did the whole Loowit Trail, my least favorite part was Windy Pass.. so I sort of giggled at your comment 😁
Windy Pass scared the crap out of me!!!

I just noticed you bought a new tent. How do you like the 1P version of you Copper Spur?
I love it! Less weight, less space and still plenty of head room and space for me to store my pack and gear inside.
How was the water sources?
The water sources were pretty limited during the beginning of July when we went, but we managed just fine.
Hiii i have a question for you... do you consider the things you eat on the hike pretty salty? does that makes you crave more water appart from all the hiking

She was quite majestic the entire time we were out there. I can't imagine what this area must have looked like right after the eruption. Craziness.

Great video showing another side of the PNW. Until i moved here I thought the PNW was giant forest full of trees. Not deserts and lava fields.
The PNW has a little bit of everything to offer. It's a hiker and backpacker's paradise out here in the backcountry.

Was it a dry camp?
Yes, where we stayed was a dry camp. We filled up at the water source before camp and even melted a bit of snow. 😀
🌋
It was so incredibly beautiful out there, even without any shade. The wildflowers were popping!!
