I was raised in this cult, left physically at age 21, and found out the lies and b.s. around age 32. I have cried over the loss of childhood, and being mind f'd. These interviews are giving me LIFE right now to realize it doesn't have to be lonely at the top. Blessings to you all. Be aware of how our pain of rejection and loss once we awaken can manifest itself in the form of addiction and other wayward activities (overeating, hypersexuality etc) I've been sober five years, with the exception of two months. I'm going to the gym and making myself do positive things to fill up my time outside of work. Groups of like minded people help. Thank you!

Amazing story. I was once a Bethelite in 2000. Coming from Texas. I decided to live in NYC after my disfellowshipping and I survived when my fam and congregations here and home doubted me. I proved everyone wrong and I now live a happy successful life.

Awesome interview!! Pedro nailed it when he said.."I don't negotiate with kidnappers!!".. Because we know that WT will kidnap our friends and family!!..So we are just here as a safety net for the ones that are coming out...We are not trying to bring anyone out we just want to be of assistance and help encourage them...We want to let them know that they're not alone!!
We have been down this road and we're willing to assist in any way we can!
Fifth, I cannot get enough of these Interviews, they're addicting... so please keep 'em coming! 💯👍

I wasn’t really in the organization but I was studying for years only to make my sister happy and really wanted to get baptized until I realized I had to give everything up. All my friends, video games, movies, birthdays, holidays and the fear that if I ever messed up that I could lose the love of my sister. It made me ask a lot of questions and I turned my back and hearing these stories make me glad I made that decision and I’m glad I did before I got baptized because I still have a relationship with my sister and it’s still strong. I thank you for these interviews.

This is a great interview in many ways and levels. The description of incredible sacrifices of two lives, a boy and his mom striving to achieve a single, difficult purpose - and then just being thrown away by an organization that demands complete ownership of individuals. It's enjoyable too for the way Fifth keeps a calm atmosphere going, to where the person can gather their thoughts and really get a flow of info going without being interrupted. Many thanks for this!

Another great interview Fifth! Two points Pedro brought out that really stood out to me: 1) how JW org continually counsels against higher education, yet those who ignore the counsel and go anyway and apply to Bethel have a much greater chance of being accepted, as they now have the education and skills (so hypocritical); and 2) how much you lose as you become a JW. Pedro said that with each chapter of the Bible Teach book, you are made to give up more and more of yourself until there is nothing left. It's such a sobering thought, yet so true. Thanks to both of you!

@@alev4287 II agree He probably appreciate the sacrifice, BUT JW's teachings is twisting scripture. Which means they are spreading a false gospel, a false salvation and a false Christ. You might as well be a satanist then, rather than dragging God's name through the mud with false teachings.

I read Leah Remini's book about Scientology and I just couldn't put it down as it was brimming with similarities. Everything she went through made the tears roll. It helped we with deprogramming even though I've been away a long time.
James 1:5 "If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask GOD who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly and it will be given you." Ask who? Not Watchtower. So you can do your research along with prayer.
You are a brave person and I love the book of Proverbs by the way.
I agree that we were all spiritually hijacked or kidnapped. I had a dream about just that and got a healing from it, showing all my journey with Watchtower, ending up with an encounter with Lord Jesus when I called on him at the end. It was so powerful.

I'm starting to see so many cracks and less of Jehovah and it scares me. It also angers me. You were a phenomenal brother and a very unique human being. I would love to learn more about the scripture and history with you. Discuss so many questions that I could never talk about to my loved ones. Once my mom was disfellowshipped and I am pressured to cut her off. If I get disfellowshipped again I cannot talk to my sister. I pray everyday for God to show me the truth. I faded from the organization as well and now that I am a grandmother, I wanted to reconsider going back to the meetings. Thank God, I had the need to investigate the truth before making a critical decision in my life. Apostacy always was a red light for me, little did I know that I too am considered an apostate. I haven't attended a meeting in 20 yrs. I did pray to Jehovah earnestly...and it actually led me to this.

You were a bad influence, but not for anything you did, not for wrong practices. You were a bad influence for who you are. Like Fifth you were teachable, submissive, loyal. You were both obedient. You even respectfully layed down when the brothers told you to. You both layed down but you refused to let the brothers stand on your necks. You see these brothers could never be satisfied with your submission. They wouldn't stop until you permitted them to bully, to degrade you. Congratulations. You are both men.

Interesting what he says about his peers not accepting him inside the 'truth' as I had the reverse experience, in fact this was actually one of the most 'normal' parts of me growing up in the cult. We used to have parties, we went to concerts and ice skating, we even went on holidays. How isolating must it have been for him not only to be required to avoid 'bad associations' in the world - but to also not have the opportunity to relate to his peers INSIDE the cult. Just WOW! Jehovah has promised everyone 1000 years to grow to perfection. HOWEVER Watchtower, especially in Bethel, requires you to be perfect NOW, except they don't call it that. They disguise it with words and phrases like "exemplary", "spiritually strong", "young Timothy (for brothers), and "fine example in the congregation". So if you're not any of those, you're automatically just weak spiritually. All it takes is ONE TIME, to have your name negatively read across that platform, regardless of your "spiritual past", and you are forever marked.

We are NOT clever, smart or articulate enough to DO anything when it comes to the things of GOD. The HOLY SPIRIT draws us. JESUS' SPIRIT is in the world today drawing out a ppl, preparing them for that special place where HE HIMSELF has prepared for them( St. john 14:1, 2 ). It was so hurtful to realize the elders act just like the entire governing body and after they receive direction from Bethel! Thanks for this interview Fifth, Pedro, your interview was very interesting thanks for sharing your experience while in the WT ORG.

LOVED this experience, I identified with so much of it especially being a loner amongst JW youth on top of at school because of being so indoctrinated, straight and green with strict, fully indoctrinated convert parents. Its so satisfying how he woke up and got out successfully, despite being one of the strong ones.
Its often the WT corruption that wakes the strong ones up, it certainly started the process with me - the way my family were treated by every BOE in all different halls we moved to trying to escape the bullying, made me realise it was an old boys club, that goes all the way up to the headquarters who also when we were begging them for help, treated us less than coldly, literally did nothing, just siding with corrupt elders just because they hold the title of elder.

Oh, the story of this sweet young man touched my heart. As the mother of a young man probably not that much older than Pedro, I was waiting and watching and holding my breath, wanting to know... does he still have contact with his mother? He obviously loves her dearly, and I know that there is nothing on this earth that would make me turn my back on my son. I’m a garden variety live-and-let-live Christian, but if Jesus Himself told me to shun my son? Well, I’d rather face hell with him than heaven without.
I really hope his mother left with him. Do you know?
Another riveting video, Fifth! Thank you, as always. I’m not sure how I found your channel, as I’m not an ex-JW, but I find the material fascinating and your style so loving and warm. Hugs from Michigan!

Wow!! This story of Pedro is now one of my favorite stories. A true crazy but good story. Much respect and mad props to you Pedro. You are truly a good person and a good dude and strong mentally and smart. You know what's up and I'm sorry that you got the cards you got from the watchtower and bethel. Sure there are many good people there but there are some bad people there as well and you are one of the best I've seen so far as the top dogs like Cliff as well. I don't know you guys but I love you guys and I would totally buy you guys lunch and a beer if I ever met you in person. These stories from all of you and from the channels keep my head up and keep me inspired to just move forward and keep working hard in life for myself and my family even though I'm not a jw anymore. Funny how the ex jw's make me want to be stronger in life and honest and better then when I was a jw. Ugh...I hated being a witness....I really hated it and was embarrassed to be one sad to say. Much love and respect to this channel and to you Pedro. A+++++

Good interview. Pedro should be happy he was blessed able to find a job and place to live right away. Most who leave bethel are not so fortunate. The side job and making normal connections scares WT because it means if you leave you'll likely be able to stand on your own, like a man,
Also, don't give up on college. There's still time.

Yes, so true, "company men" (i.e., obedient JW males in positions of power) detest younger JW males exhibiting any kind of intelligence and/or doctrinal curioisty. There is almost a, "How dare you!" mentality.

I took a tour with him several years ago when I was just waking up. He made a subtle comment/joke about the My Book of Bible Stories being full of bizarrely violent images for children and just as I was getting ready to cringe when a “worldly” woman and her grandchild joined the tour he changed the tone much to my relief. I fully woke up several months later and remember his remark about MBOBS and wondered if he was awake at that time. I’m delighted to see that he was! Congrats on your freedom Pedro!

A thoughtful interview, showing so clearly that thinkers have a tough time in JW organization. Thank you Fifth for letting your interviewees tell their stories. Another compelling story of a young intelligent Witness who realizes his religion of origin is a cult thst cannot withstand scrutiny.

Had to completely rewrite my comment because as I got later and later into the interview there were more and more interesting things. Two points that stick out; the bethel overseers were savage with Pedro. Reminds me of the old saying 'no good deed goes unpunished'; while others were pushing the JW-defined moral boundaries, Pedro was doing everything right, but because he appeared to not show 'absolute' loyalty he was blacklisted. While the others got away with their double lives.
The other point was about him seeing how well 'worldly' people treated him. This was one of the most upsetting realizations for me; when I realized people who had never heard of Jehovah, or were religious and didn't care for Watchtower, or had no particular belief in god, treated me way better than several Jdubs I had known. AND, a lot of them were more humane than I was as a person. That was devastating, because I really thought of myself as 'good', and wordly people as 'bad'. The lie got revealed and I was as mad as hell. Even to this day, dealing with the people I live around, sometimes it hurts to see how good people can be, my old deep-rooted beliefs get uprooted again and again. I thought I would have been over it now 10 years post-exit; but it still has an impact.

When I was a freshmen in high school we had a ‘mock’ election and (telling my age), one of the choices to vote for was Prohibition, I pulled that handle. 😁 The terror I felt for having participated it the mock election was terrible because I was afraid somehow my parents would find out. They didn’t, but I felt the anxiety for a long time.

Your memories of accidentally doing "forbidden" things in elementary school reminded me of something funny: When I was in elementary school, students would always bring their own sandwiches for recess. I could see that some of my classmates would have jam sandwiches, but my mother never allowed jam on my school sandwiches. And I always figured the reason was that it was somehow un-Christian to have jam sandwiches at school! Because all the other things I could not do that everyone else did were always forbidden because they were "un-Christian". (Much later, I realized it was probably just because my mom thought jam sandwiches were sticky and messy...)

Genuinely compelling interview, well done.😇 People who are honorable, Biblically sound, walking away from the Organization makes Watchtower look bad. When one makes Watchtower look bad ( or there is professional jealously), one Will be crushed. They even try to paint ex-members as immoral, to justify their leaving.
You may both appreciate the work of Adrian McQueen, Even at the Doors. His academic, historically based review of prophecy is accurately researched and beautifully produced.
