I love Ringo! He has a great groove and his drumming is so original and space conscious. I went to see him last night at his Hollywood Star induction. He, Joe Walsh, Don Was and Ben Harper! Ringo and Joe were hilarious! Ringo looked so good in person! And I think he turns 70 this summer! Thanks for the video featuring his always tasteful parts~
This was my very 1st Ringo Drum Lessons video . Thanks everyone , i'm glad it helped a lot of people . My drum students were down , so i decided to give it all away to you . Peace and Love to all that enter here .......
i think if anyone who is anyone will know ringo wasn't a great drummer at the begining he got better as time went on this is a great lesson and helped me out with me 60's band thanx mate oh btw loving the hair very beatles :D
wow ! you look like him dude ! i think it's a great thing you're doing for a lot of young drummers out there..let them know where it all began..without ringo, there would be no modern rock drumming !..cheers ! and keep up the good work ! long live ringo and the beatles !!
Excellent job on this - great representation of the original groove. It's worth noting Ringo used this groove 2 other times, only playing the hi-hat on the & of 3. The first time was a song from the very 1st Beatles album called "Anna". The 2nd was a faster version of the groove on a song called "Not A Second Time", and lastly, on this song, "In My Life". Tre Cool of Green day does a variation of this on "Wake Me Up When September Ends" from American Idiot.
This is great drumming! Agree that Ringo's contributions were perfect for what was needed. Please go on and post a load more tutorials on Beatles' songs. I have just started learning drums and this is right up my street! You should have more time now you aren't signing autographs :)
@Xmenfan246 Great comment...I received my first drum set in 1966 and all I would play was The Beatles albums. They were very basic beats and it taught me all I needed to know. Ringo was truly a master at letting the melodies come through.
You know some old genius said "I wrote this long book because I didn't have time to make it shorter".... Ringo's playing is just like that. The hard stuff is to make it as little as possible to fit -- like in Amadeus 'leave one note out, and the whole structure will fall'... ! Genius!!
You are a maraville you play like ringo starr very good now i can play it better in my drums Thanks you You are AWESOME and the best drumer Peace and Love
@geoffreydlang It was actually paul who played the drums on some of the tracks...Paul was actually the Beatle's drummer for a few weeks before Pete Best joined....he was then back to guitar until Stu Sutcliffe left....then he went on bass......best wishes.from Liverpool.
Thank-you for the kind words!Your right i do have more time, and i'm thinking of putting some more videos on here. Some will be ringo, some will be some snare drum only to show some fun stick/drum tricks!Enjoy your drumming.
as Ringo was when he played the drums. He's way to underrated. No one can repeat his drumming on songs like "A Day in the Life" "Oh darling" "strawberry Fields Forever" and so many more.
I always loved the drums on that number. People say Ringo was just a "keep the beat" drummer, but it would be more accurate to describe him as an "arrangement first" drummer
My sister in law is a seamstress. She makes them in rockford il.Good luck on your ringo tribute band.I'm doing sort of the same thing with another project band!
thanks guy ! i love phil rudd also . i listen to ac dc an aweful lot because on the Simplistic Punch in your gut driving sound ! my favorites are "it's a long way to the top .....,if you want blood , high voltage , tnt .
oh yeah!!! that's true! As a drums teacher I think that Ringo is one of the drummer we shouldn't forget! like Phil Rudd and Dave Grohl ... they play(ed) in a scholastic way. this is nothing but music!! Dig your style!! and your haircut
As much as I love the Beatles (I really LOVE them, I've been listening since I was around 3) I can't say Ringo's drumming in The Beatles is an inspiration to me. He's an excellent drummer, but he's also a team player, and does what sounds best for the song. Still one of my favorites though.
I was a chronic stutterer as a child.I think it comes from that.I used to think about getting the first words out too much, then cablam, stutter tongue tied city!
The drummer is merely "seasoning" to the entire song . we as drummers have the ability to structure the whole FlOw of the tune . the beat is where your heart is . that is why i play drums for this sensation it gives me . i really want to inspire people to play drums or ANY instrument . put that rock band game away and buy a REAL INSTRUMENT .
Could be.I just literally throw these videos on,sometimes not matching album sound.I do almost all videos in "1''take.They are more for learning the style of Ringo, not so much sounding like Ringo. Some sound close, some not so close with too much ringing.I'm using my 8mm camcorder.I pay more attention to tuning with BritBeat beatles tribute band from chicago il.who supply entire drumkit, and transport it in their caravan.Man is that sweet!!!!
you're right this song got a very cool groove. do you know if Ringo came up with the drum compositions himself? cuz most beatles songs have a cool little special drum beat, like this one
I also meant to say, playing the "Right"part is much more important than over playing it.The part should compliment the bass and other instuments, singers.
@jackarss69 YES!He played on all those tremendous hits!He was one of thee most influential drummers for a long long long time.Look at all the video responses i get.Yes,people still want to play like Ringo.
Hi, David, thanks so much for these....we can really see how great the performances are ....you've done a Fab job with these! Do your bandmates have Bass Parts/Guitar parts, etc? cheers, Reg
Hey mate, Im learning and practicing Anna(go to Him) and please tell me if Im wrong, but the beat sounds pretty much the same as In My Life except openining of the Hats(in Anna) on what I think is, +4. Do you know the counts for Anna? Well done in this video, i agree that it is a great song to play. Keep it up!!!! Cheers
You actually look like Ringo.
thanks .
I agree
you look like ringo!
Ringo had the steadiest kick drum of any drummer I ever heard. I always loved this groove.
Maybe it is not very technical, but THIS is the right thing at the right place at the right time. In a word: perfection.
Very well said. He truly played the best parts for the songs he was adding to, always.
This was my very 1st Ringo Drum Lessons video . Thanks everyone , i'm glad it helped a lot of people . My drum students were down , so i decided to give it all away to you . Peace and Love to all that enter here .......
Amazing how simple and matched to the song that is... hi-hat so sparse that nobody would play that today...
i think if anyone who is anyone will know ringo wasn't a great drummer at the begining he got better as time went on this is a great lesson and helped me out with me 60's band thanx mate oh btw loving the hair very beatles :D
rock steady drumming and awesome song choice....
rock on !
Thanks! A great way to really hear what Ringo is doing in these songs.
I saw them and was amazed thanks for showing me a more intake of drumming styles Drumguitarman.
Thanks!Drums are easy and fun.I was playing for money in under 2 yrs. wood shedding, self taught.I'm really a left handed drummer!
Elegantly simple! Well done.
wow ! you look like him dude ! i think it's a great thing you're doing for a lot of young drummers out there..let them know where it all began..without ringo, there would be no modern rock drumming !..cheers ! and keep up the good work ! long live ringo and the beatles !!
Right on.I come from school of jazz and fusion, and i'll tell ya,nothing like simple feel good rock and roll to me.
Oooo i like that,Elegantly!Thank-you,you are so nice!
1:53 to 2:11 the same drum line in Anna (Go to him)

David you are a great drummer.
Nice job; love the Starr stool. It should help students learn, which is your objective.
Amazing hi-hat so sparse-- no one would do that today!!!!
This is great drumming! Agree that Ringo's contributions were perfect for what was needed. Please go on and post a load more tutorials on Beatles' songs. I have just started learning drums and this is right up my street! You should have more time now you aren't signing autographs :)

Beatles are my Fav Band of all time and you do a excellent job Ringo or should I say Richard Starkey
@Xmenfan246
Great comment...I received my first drum set in 1966 and all I would play was The Beatles albums. They were very basic beats and it taught me all I needed to know. Ringo was truly a master at letting the melodies come through.

Ringo Starr è stao un grande, e anche tu non sei da meno! Ringo Starr was great and you're too!!!

I also meant to say, playing the "Right"part is much more important than over playing it.The part should compliment the bass and other instuments, singers.
Thanks! The pork pie seat is from guitar center.
@jackarss69 YES!He played on all those tremendous hits!He was one of thee most influential drummers for a long long long time.Look at all the video responses i get.Yes,people still want to play like Ringo.
Hi, very interesting. Maybe someday you could do "Good Morning" from Sgt. Peppers. As someone who owns a trap set, thanks.
You are right!
