      Put said dog poop in a paper bag and light it on fire then shoot it at the neighbors front door well aim for the front door and hope it just lands on the porch because you're not trying to burn the neighbors house down you just want them to have a really bad experience and the worst part of doing this would be that everybody's first instinct is to stomp the fire out then they have dog poop on their shoe that they end up tracking into their house

    Some suggestions: 1) take a piece of steel conduit or steel pipe and make a bushing for the sling arm so the wood doesn't drag on the all-thread, 2) Place a stop beam between the tops of the uprights, 3) & 4) Use a different type of hook, the type that are bolts with nuts, run them all the way through the boards and fasten with the nuts - will be lot stronger and re-position them to the inside of the uprights - less drag, 5) use something lighter/stronger for the swing arm - like a length of 1 inch steel tubing - a LOT more strength to weight. With these changes and a LOT more rubber bands or maybe even some heavy duty springs like those from a trampoline, you should get lot more distance. Oh yeah, most catapults and trebuchets have flat or nearly flat load decks.

  • @akakscase
    @akakscase 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1) twist the rubber bands. Oddly enough this will increase the tension without actually increasing the overall force. This gives you a “snappier” release.
    2) put in a cross brace to stop the arm about 15 degrees from straight up and down. Use leather or an old towel to pad it to reduce damage to the wood. This gives you a pretty decent ballistic trajectory and imparts more of the energy into the projectile.
    3) add in something (nuts &washers) on the all thread to keep the arm centered. Better accuracy, and a lot less energy loss to arm movement.
    4) half again the number of rubber bands. Trust me, the frame can take it, and you’ll still be able to pull it.
    Revisit with the 10 lb weight. You should get a good 30-40 ft out of it. And a good 100-125 yards out of a golf ball.

    Put weight on the front to stop it lifting, add more rubber bands, add a pulley system (like a compound bow system or like a similar system to your crane scale) to cock it so it takes less strength to cock it back. Add a bearing in the swinging arm for the rod to go through (will help it last longer and stay the same power for longer)

    Also you could have drilled some holes for stopping the catapult arm at different places to change the angle of fire, for example put 2 holes about 1/3 of the way from the top of the base frame for another length of all thread to stop the catapult arm from hitting the base when it fires.

    You need to build one that can sling a pumpkin or watermelon about a 100 yards. That would be impressive. In a little suburb of Cincinnati where I live they bring in huge catapults every year after Halloween to launch ppls old left over pumpkins over a big hill side. They launch some of those pumpkins 2 or 3 hundred yards over that hill side. He deer have a nice little treat when it's all said and done. But that's the kind you need to build lol.

    I think it would be cool to see a larger scale of this but instead of using 2x4 for everything use 4x4’s for your framing and your uprights 2x4’s for your bracing/kickers that support your uprights use a 6x6 or a 4x4 for the catapult arm and for your power source use surgical tubing from Home Depot then also instead of using all thread as your cross bar you could use like 1inch steal plumbing pipe for better strength. And just for giggles but a cheap dollar store frying pan and drill 2-3 holes in that and screw it to the catapult arm as your projectile holder . 😁😁😁 happy slinging. You could always reference pumpkin chunkin videos for ideas also.

    4:31 Tyler!! If you look closely I see you measured all your lines before making the cuts, then second later when you are lining up the pieces on the floor they get shorter and shorter.
    The problem with making all the measurements before the cut is that there is about 2/16ths of an inch being completely turned to dust when the saw blade hits the wood. In this build it wasn’t a big deal but say you wanna keep doing stuff like this. it is always best to measure, cut, measure, cut and so on. Or else those small pieces that get taken off add up and with in only 4 cuts you are half an inch short on your final piece.
    (Love your vids btw)
