You will want to make the ingots to upgrade your trains 1st so they come back faster with your paint other supplies. Then upgrade boats & factories to also be faster.

Once you get your ships open you can use the ingots for getting gold chest when you send them to get stuff from the islands

What ya got from boats is not really worth the ingots & they are better spent on the upgrades. Upgrade trains 1st. Then the boats & factories.
