i‘m in love with singing but once i started singing lessons, and my teacher misgendered me, thinking i‘m a girl, i stopped talking. that was two days ago. i‘ve said like three words since then. i want to talk again but i never want to hear the voice again. not talking just let‘s me have the right testosterone voice in my thoughts and that comforts me.

I can relate to some of the things you say. When I tell other people that I'm trans and they are sorta ignorant about trans issues they usually go like "But your voice is so deep." However, I would never categorize my own voice as deep. Like you said, I know it's my voice but I just can't gender it. My voice also dropped rather over time, not suddenly and I also had a fairly deep voice to begin with. For some reason I used to have less voice dysphoria pre-t than now, well over 8 months on T. It's weird.

Trust me, It'll level out. I find now that I sing fine, if not better in a lot of areas than before. I'm 5 years! I will say that after a while, your speaking voice totally becomes the same in your head as it sounded before T. Just try and remind yourself that it did change, and celebrate that you're beginning to hit a norm, a norm that felt like it was never gonna come.

I kinda feel the same about not wanting to change my voice to be read as male. Like for me, of course I wanna pass and sound more masculine, but if I tried to deepen my voice it wouldn't sound natural, and I'd have to be careful every time I opened my mouth. My voice prevents me from passing but I can deal with it until I get t.

My range is already pretty limited, so I guess I'd be all right. I can't go very high or very low. I like singing, but I'm not necessarily a "singer," per se. Thanks for your thoughts!

Do you find that you kind of have to "re-teach" yourself how to sing now?
