As a clarinet player who likes Balkan music I have to say you are doing a great job. Beautiful improvisation - you capture the mood of Balkan music beautifully! Keep up the great work.
@@mironraf Thanks for the reply! I was fortunate enough that got a Recording that was owned by Ryan Kisor! I think it was built in 1949-51. Great horn! You should definitely get one from that era, it's something else. Not to say the Super Recording... Drooling already, lol.
yeah, I love this type of sound.. (Also a trumpet player) .. Very beautiful. Your recording reminds me of "Sufi music" I listened to in Turkey played on the Ney .. Beautiful..
beautiful, expressive playing with incredible intonation that's particularly striking in the whiley pedal tone register. would be great to know how you conceive, organize this improvisation modally etc. thanks for sharing.
thanks! especially for the beard comment :) Yes there are some quarter tones that are half valved and some of them are just lipped down (like at 0:58) it takes a while to develop, you just have to listen to it alot and try to emulate it any way you can, good luck!
Although I did not find that it was technical, I thought that your sound was close to sax rather than a clarinet. To be sure, the sound of trumpet has very strong presence. But I feel that the sound of your trumpet had been in harmony with other sound even up to now. So, when the sound of this trial is joined to other sound, I expect whether to be made by what kind of music! Good luck! :)
Hi Miron, listened to this about 100 times, just incredible. May i ask a question, put my horn down and have to pick it up again, have to. Do you by chance have any resources for classes online,? jazz and what you are playing, blows my mind frankly, family from the Balkans. Also watched a whole slew of your performances last night, just amazon, thank you.
Hello Edward, thank you very much. Sure I give classes through skype, if you are interested send me a message through the contact form on my website, or through my facebook page /mironraf . Y hablo español tambien ;)
Hello Miron Rafajlovic, Love your playing, and will likely have a hundred trumpet questions if we ever correspond. You should record more of these. However, for now, I'm wondering what you're using for your tanpura drone. There are some very nice subtle harmonic changes and/or suggestions happening. Is it available for sale? Where might I find more like it? Thanks, Dan Bilich Ann Arbor Michigan USA
Wow! You're incredible! I live in Greece and play Greek asia minor music (on the bouzouki, not trumpet.) I play a little trumpet and I really want to learn some Turkish stuff on the instrument, even though I now it's probably way out of my league. Can you recommend any musicians/songs/types of Turkish music that use trumpet? Thanks! And bravo on your playing!
after a month i re-watch this.. and still i admire it man...hahaha... what scale/maqam to play turkish traditional tune? you are good in high register as well as lower register ,the pedal tone.. oh my...
whoaa... the half valve technique to make the feel like quarter tone in arabic/turkish music right?? how you develop all of those technique??? great video & wonderful beard man!!! admire it!
It looks like he's just using half-valving, smears, and lipping down for the quarter-tone effect. He's also adding minor seconds for a Middle Eastern feel.
No Name yes he looks lipping down : at 1:57 he descends D C B (with 13 fingering for high D), and strongly low-pitch natural B (clearly audible). so that when he goes back through the B, he plays B flat
It's a regular trumpet in Bb, trumpet for this style doesn't exist, the style is inside you :) I guess the most important thing is that the valves are fast for the trills, otherwise any trumpet is good
Mirone bravo que maravilla

HELP! How do you get this quarter-tone tuning (oriental) with a normal trumpet? Do you have to use special fingering? Or just with lips? thank you!
It looks like he's just using half-valving, smears, and lipping down for the quarter-tone effect. He's also adding minor seconds for a Middle Eastern feel.

bend the note with your chops... simple with practice...
can anyone recommend a trumpet for playing this style? is this trumpet tuned to G or Bb?
It's a regular trumpet in Bb, trumpet for this style doesn't exist, the style is inside you :) I guess the most important thing is that the valves are fast for the trills, otherwise any trumpet is good
@@mironraf thank you so much for your reply. I'm really inspired to learn Balkan tunes on Trumpet.. let me know if you can teach me online.
Efxaristo :) Check out Marko Markovic, he's the man
Dublji pisak ce ti definitivno dati malo bogatiji zvuk, sa vise niskih ferkvencija, ali opet 80-90% je u tehnici kako sviras.
