Hiking Upstate South Carolina: Rainbow Falls and Jones Gap Falls

I took a quick Friday afternoon hike up to Rainbow falls and Jones Gap falls in August 2024!
Less than an hour outside of Greenville, SC, Jones Gap Stare Park is an awesome getaway! The Rainbow Falls hike is 2.2 miles one way, and with cool rock formations, creek crossings and stairs, the journey matches the destination. Rainbow falls is a beauty, and if you’re adventurous, you can climb around the rocks at the bottom.
Jones Gap falls is a quick detour on your way down, and is part of the longer Jones Gap Trail. It winds along the Middle Saluda, and you traverse a rocky, dry creekbed with a few fun creek crossings. Jones falls is less spectacular, but a lovely and secluded waterfall!
Jones Gap has limited parking and requires reservations for the weekends, but it’s a great place to go to escape the SC summer heat. As you can see, I took a refreshing swim in the Middle Saluda after I finished my hike. Enjoy!
