If you watched Into the Spider Verse, this is Tobey's Leap of Faith, he learned/discovered his fighting, stealth and swinging abilities in this chase alone.
Tobey and Andrew would probably have the dopest talks about their losses. Andrew was still in the same mindset that Tobey was here and that was heartbreaking to see. I’d give my left arm to see Tobey help guide him away from that dark place since as the most experienced of the three, he can identify with what each of them are going through.
To this day, Raimi is the only guy who was able to nail this scene perfectly!! From the moment Peter finds his uncle to the inevitable confrontation where he realizes it’s the same guy he let get away is just pure epic storytelling. You can feel the horror in Peter’s eyes and heart when he recognizes the thief and just how hollowed he feels at the grave mistake he made in not stopping him. This was the moment that he truly became Spider-Man. And nobody has ever done it right since...
What about when they did it in Spectacular Spider Man? I know there were a lot of references to the Raimi films in that cartoon series but even still it did a good job retelling the origin story in the episode "Intervention".
@@Tulf42 the problem with that is because its a children show they had to restrict the story. they could not let spiderman kill the murderer of his uncle and that adds a lot to the scene. it makes sure spiderman had his revenge and does no longer pursue it and also allow him to think about his action instead of projecting it into someone else. the cartoon is fine but I believe killing off the murder leads to a greater tragedy and better story overall.
Uncle Ben's death and the hunt for his killer was done so much better in this movie than it was in Amazing Spider-Man. Peter doesn't even find him in Webb's series and stops searching for him for some unexplained reason. It's mindboggling how they messed that up.
yeah, this one peter beats the shit out of him and totally lets his anger do everything. A great first battle to teach peter to control his anger, as he almost killed him.

@VDLS technically not, since sandman didn't want to kill uncle Ben at all, and he was actually about to put the gun down, but when the thief ran towards sandman he startled him while the gun was in his hand so he shot uncle Ben accidentally, so it is still Peter's fault because if he had stopped the thief sandman would've listened to uncle Ben or at least he would've took the car without killing him.
@VDLS He didn't intend to, imagine if you're holding a knife cooking with your wife, and while cooking your daughter enters the kitchen unnoticed, and then she touches you and scares the living shit out of you that you end up stabbing your wife accidentally, would you call yourself a killer?
@VDLS bruh understand what i am saying, now what if your daughter never entered the kitchen, would you still kill your wife? Exactly, you won't, same case with spiderman.
The atmosphere and the acting, and the cold dead look in Peter's eyes when he is staring at the robbers face, and when he breaks the man's arm is also a note worthy thing cause he had a psychotic look in his eyes, he was super angry.
I really love how Ben's killer dies by accident in this version as opposed to Peter webbing him up in every other version. Really adds to Spider-Man's no killing rule. He saw his uncle's killer die but now he knows that it didn't make him feel better or change anything.

I love this part 0:15 ! the music, the scene, putting his mask, then showing the symbol then the way he climbs the wall, and Peter's goal, it was just the start of a great hero. It gives me goosebumps!
Insanely cool detail I never appreciated as a kid. At 1:50 in Peter's swing he actually spins around because he doesn't know how to control his swings yet but the VERY next swing he uses his momentum and body the stay forward. God I love this movie
Very clever set up of how he figures how to swing through buildings. First time, finds out how to spin his web, second time he hits a wall, this time he avoids the wall by shooting another wall, then another, and then he's swinging through buildings. That was really fun to watch!
Wicket it’s better that they didn’t. They were going to have Peter cheat on MJ (not that this version didn’t deserve it) when they already have a child. But they were going to change Felicia, the Black Cat, and turn her into the “Vulturess”. Or however you may call a female Vulture villain.
It’s just beautiful, when he is climbing up the building really fast you can basically feel what he is feeling when everything looks sideways and dizzy, also you can just hear the adrenaline building up when he’s about to try and swing RIGHT this time instead of falling, and when he’s getting used to it, u can also just hear the legend of Spider-Man beginning, this is easily the best marvel movie scene ever created

An unhinged Spiderman could easily kill most of his rogues gallery and even most of the MCU avengers The Spiderman here is New. Now imagine an unhinged spider-man with experience under his belt
Spider-Man gets stronger than his enemies when he gets really really angry! He was full of rage when he thought that guy killed his uncle, he was furious when the Green Goblin and Doc Ock threatened to kill Mary Jane, Peter got really angry again when he thought Sandman killed his uncle on purpose and Peter more full of furious rage than Eddie and Symbiote were when they as Venom killed Harry. And Spider-Man beat the living shit out of each and every one of them for what they foolishly done.
1:02 This first swinging sequence is so great. You can totally believe it as if were real. It really does look like something a person would do for the first time. It's janky, awkward and looks real. Like someone stepping on a skateboard for the first time, except Peter doesn't fall flat on his face because he's a superhero.
1:54 Very subtle and good attention to detail here. You can see Peter is spinning around, struggling to control the direction he wants to swing. I personally love this scene because Peter very clearly doesn't want to swing off that building at the beginning. He's terrified. But still he pushes through despite his fears because he knows it's something he has to do. This scene right here is the birth of Spiderman. That's one thing I personally felt was missing from MCU Spidey. We never got to see the struggles Tom went through to learn his powers, or why he started fighting crime. Tobey and Andrew didn't give a crap about fighting crime until their uncle was shot. For Tom, they just imply he became Spiderman because he was bored.
In Civil War Tom's Spiderman said to Tony "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you." This implies he witnessed some tragedies unfold and felt an urge to start intervening as a superhero, just not as intense as an Uncle Ben death tragedy.
Very late reply but despite all the understandable criticisms/opinions against Tom's Spiderman portrayal, that last sentence couldn't be further wrong. Like the other commenter said, Civil war clearly implied Tom's Peter also felt a sense of responsibility to help people as Spiderman. We just never get to see the circumstances prior to that.
I absolutely love when Peter has the revelation that the guy that shot Ben was also the guy he let go and could of stopped earlier. The music combined with the flashbacks and Peter's surprised look on his face gives me chills evertime.
@@DaDelinguisher Spectacle-wise yeah, but this scene does so much more character-wise. Covers the entire beat of Peter learning about the death, facing the killer, and learning his lesson while also pushing him to control his power. Am I the only one who really felt the moment Peter Parker twisted that guys wrist (to at least a 360 degree) was a little unsettling? Just the way he twists it, the way the man screeches in pain, and Peter's bright blue eyes fully enraged. Badass moment and yet, chilly.
Totally agree. If only Sam Raimi went in this direction in Spider-man 3 (which I adore), but it would had definitely shut up the people complaining about emo Parker.
@@frenchcoupon3391 He went. Peter almost kills Flint Marko, then crushes Eddie Brock's camera and smashes the glass with his head, then beats love of his life, Mary Jane and finally, fights his friend, Harry burning half of his face with a little bomb/grenade. I think it shows very well how Symbiote affects him. People literally dislike Emo Peter because of ONE scene where he's just goofing around on a street. It's stupid.
Nekros97 For the most part, agree. For me Spider-man 3 is on level of Infinity War, so it’s really strong. I personally don’t care about the emo Parker « problem » (there is none). The problem is the critics and a part of the audience who hate this movie, because of that. They got spoiled with Nolan’s Batman so they seek serious, dark character development everywhere. However, between the portrayal in this scene and the « dork+unlimited power » portrayal (granted, in rare scenes) in Spider-man 3, I prefer this one.
I thought it was so satisfying. A bit painful, but after him trying to shoot Peter after letting his guard down, he totally earned it! And I love how angry Peter looked, while the killer watched in horror. It's perfect!
I really love how in this movie, Toby learns how to use his powers as he takes a leap of faith. Just like in real life, there are no well defined paths for any success, you just have to take a leap of faith, and learn as you go.

This scene does a brilliant job of giving us Spider-Man's first night. The way the CGI and choreography work, you can see the outlines of classic Spider-Man moves and poses, the way he perches on the tower at 0:56, the webswinging, the way he crouches with his fingers splayed on the car, and little enhanced touches to his fighting style with the backflip knife disarm - but at the same time you can see how massively unused to it all he is. He spins and twists on the end of the webline as he swings, he flexes and flails as he tries to correct his course, and appropriately enough for having just made his wrestling debut he fights a lot more roughly and unrefined than we see later on, his spider strength and anger compensating for his amateurism. This isn't Spider-Man yet, but he's very close. It takes the revelation of the killer's identity to make him Spider-Man.
@@ThreeDaysOfDan That's just great film-making for me. From the moment Uncle Ben leaves Peter at the fightclub to the moment he arrives to him laying on the floor, those were all a scenario set up for having the time of this scene be during the night: where it's easier to pull off the "smoke and mirrors" of old cgi.
Just noticed the hijacker was driving an oldsmobile (Ash's car in the evil dead) which is funny since this and the other two movies were directed by the same guy who directed the evil dead films.
Andrew and Tom's spiderman the first time we saw their first scene swinging they already looked experienced, while in the Raimi version it really showed the progression of spidey. From crawling, to using parkour until he made his first swing.

What I loved about this scene is how it showed how Web Swinging is a skill he needed to master. We never see Spidey struggle with swinging, he's always flawless and never seems to make any mistakes, this movie shows how difficult it is and how initially Peter is terrified.
This scene is incredibly badass and entertaining, and the music accompanies it perfectly from beginning to end. The experience is so well put together, with relatable characters and situations, that you almost feel part of it; either people forgot how to tell a story or nowadays public's standards have plumbed dramatically.
Seeing Peter in rage mode is indeed menacing and badass all in one, Tobey really showcased it here in this scene, he now remembers that same robber, only moments earlier, and didn’t kill him, which makes me love him even more.

If you watched Into the Spider Verse, this is Tobey's Leap of Faith, he learned/discovered his fighting, stealth and swinging abilities in this chase alone.
Rage and vengeance do help you focus and become more powerful...
tom felt this same rage, luckily tobey was there to help him out
Tobey and Andrew would probably have the dopest talks about their losses. Andrew was still in the same mindset that Tobey was here and that was heartbreaking to see. I’d give my left arm to see Tobey help guide him away from that dark place since as the most experienced of the three, he can identify with what each of them are going through.

Danny Elfmans music, the cinematography, the editing and acting. Its perfect!
agreed 100%.
The same cinematographer did Aquaman too
Raimi has such a great understanding of how a camera moves in a space, even in scenes that are CGI, perfect for spider-man
Anubhav Mohanty and Forrest Gump too
And The Simpsons!
Funny because he didn't kill Ben , sandman did
@@tristanavila1876 not in this movie or 2.
@@tristanavila1876 No. It was him, Sandman told to Peter in spider man 3
Uncle Ben's death and the hunt for his killer was done so much better in this movie than it was in Amazing Spider-Man. Peter doesn't even find him in Webb's series and stops searching for him for some unexplained reason. It's mindboggling how they messed that up.
yeah, this one peter beats the shit out of him and totally lets his anger do everything. A great first battle to teach peter to control his anger, as he almost killed him.
Joey Style nobody said he killed him
Captain Stacy felt more important than Uncle Ben did in that movie. I don't even think Peter even felt guilty about his Uncle dying in TASM films.

VDLS we don’t talk about that
@VDLS technically not, since sandman didn't want to kill uncle Ben at all, and he was actually about to put the gun down, but when the thief ran towards sandman he startled him while the gun was in his hand so he shot uncle Ben accidentally, so it is still Peter's fault because if he had stopped the thief sandman would've listened to uncle Ben or at least he would've took the car without killing him.
Nahhhh. This movie wack
The atmosphere and the acting, and the cold dead look in Peter's eyes when he is staring at the robbers face, and when he breaks the man's arm is also a note worthy thing cause he had a psychotic look in his eyes, he was super angry.

The transition from sadness to anger within both Tobey and the music is amazing. I also like the gloominess of his realization of uncle bens killer.

It’s not just “good” it’s amazing and outstanding!
@Velocerbate He obviously means when the light reveals his face.
Well said
the way spiderman is never fully lit to hide the fact the CGI is bad is also amazing
One of the hardest scenes in superhero history. The CGI was way ahead of its time.
Just noticed the hijacker was driving an oldsmobile (Ash's car in the evil dead) which is funny since this and the other two movies were directed by the same guy who directed the evil dead films.

Bruce Campbell was the one who played the announcer who gave Peter the name Spider-Man.
And this sequence in the warehouse is shot like a horror comedy just like the prior Raimi films
3:55
Peter saying to himself ".... Its my fault...hes dead because of me"
man I didn't notice that till now
@@macias7125 How didn't you notice?
@@H.K.5 it’s sarcasm dude
@@3850simone how in fucks name is that sarcasm?
I think it’s the guy with the moneys fault
0:15 The very few times Peter's super speed is shown in any spiderman media (Apart from comics)
@@gauritrimbakkar9666 😂😂😂😂
Not really. It's on display every time he performs something physical, such as run on walls or maneuver around.
Andrew and Tom's spiderman the first time we saw their first scene swinging they already looked experienced, while in the Raimi version it really showed the progression of spidey. From crawling, to using parkour until he made his first swing.
TOBEY MAGUIRE IS THE BEST SPIDERMAN
Sankeeath yogendra is that the amazing Spider-Man or normal one
dragon skullz It's the one from this fucking video.
dragon skullz
Sankeeath yogendra www
yeah
This scene is so badass everything about it is perfect. The setup, the moves, build up, music. Just beautiful
Tobey maguire the original spiderman legend
Damn, Spidey's moves at 3:24 were impressive. I didn't even realize until now that he kicked that knife out of the guy's hand into the ceiling.
And the fact that we actually see the bad guys Death which we will never see in today's movies
he kicks him so hard that the beanie disappears too lol
And people say this movie was shit. This Spider-Man actually threw hands and there wasn’t that iron man shit helping Peter. Peter actually went through shit alone. Tobey Maguire will forever be my Spider-Man. I don’t care what anyone says.
Agree 100%
Put some respek on it
here we go again bruh
Nobody says this movie is shit
What? This movie has been on the top of superhero movies all time until the dark knight was made
Heres some data

I'm honestly surprise no one is mentioning how beautiful Tobey's eyes are at 3:43.
itsanolive Mary Jane did in the cafeteria
Ugh gay
Just joking
Number 1 spiderman Fan your mom.
itsanolive *stopp that guyy!*
*.........THX......*
Peter Parker: What about my Uncle? Did you give him a chance?
Robber: Your eyes are beautiful.
Fun Fact: Tobey Maguire actually did the stunts himself no cgi was needed absolute madlad! Best Spiderman Ever!
XD epic
yes because toby maguire actually swung across the city and leaped 30 feet in the air, how stunning
@@igfingerbib8096 they had a rope holding him thats how they did it back in the day, so he did them, but not without the help a rope
Adham Tohamy hmmm yes definitely
@@ftjp2328 look up on TH-cam them filming it. They even used ropes during the New Goblin Fight, their is some cgi like with the ring and the glass, but not all of it was
1:01 Peters ‘Leap of Faith’ will FOREVER give me goosebumps! I felt him truly become Spider-Man in this moment
I miss the 2000’s people were more expressful and human about there emotions you can clearly see how peter is feeling throughout each moment here
That doesn't make sense at all... And this is a movie, not real lofe photage.
It's incredible the levels of nostalgia people have to the point they made up stuff that doesn't apply to reality in the slightest.
Gotta love the inexperience displayed in this scene. You gotta respect the character development Rami did throughout the movies.
What I loved about this scene is how it showed how Web Swinging is a skill he needed to master. We never see Spidey struggle with swinging, he's always flawless and never seems to make any mistakes, this movie shows how difficult it is and how initially Peter is terrified.
the transition from real life to CGI when he is running in the alley to jumping on the wall is FLAWLESS, plus the MUSIC my god.
Man this scene was so Dope back in the day! Still is even today.
Such a bad ass movie probably the best origin movie of any superhero
This Spider-Man movie is badass
How about Wonder Woman
3:36 when your friend says kissing your mom doesn't count as your first kiss
Cody Valentino this is easily my favorite comment
What the fu.....
Top comment god
Ew wtf
I don't get it.
This scene is incredibly badass and entertaining, and the music accompanies it perfectly from beginning to end. The experience is so well put together, with relatable characters and situations, that you almost feel part of it; either people forgot how to tell a story or nowadays public's standards have plumbed dramatically.
I would say both. Even though the climbing scenes are obviously CGI it doesn’t matter.
Boy!!! I used to get so hype the way peter would run down that alley to get changed
Me too!
LMAO
Literal goosebumps everytime, it's the music that gets me
The reason why the CG is so well done is because the guy who directed the CGI, helped do the effects for Star Wars 1977.
@IceCraftroria shut the fuck up 🤷

Seeing Peter in rage mode is indeed menacing and badass all in one, Tobey really showcased it here in this scene, he now remembers that same robber, only moments earlier, and didn’t kill him, which makes me love him even more.
Like Raimi stans are probably thinking right now, a great quote from Tobey:
''I got what I wanted, it didn't make things better, took me a long time to learn from that darkness''
