Just a note on the Overture. This was from the original roadshow versions (reserved seats, limited number of showings). 2001 was shown onto giant Cinerama screens (deeply curved at 147 degrees. All of these theatres had curtains closed during the overture with lights in the house and on the curtains usually dimmed at half so the audience wasnt in darkness. the space between the end of the overture and the MGM lion was when light s dimmed out completely. Curtains started opening as soon as the MGM lion hit the screen. Curtains would start to close when the Intermission sign appeared. usually a 10-15 minute intermission would be held (without music). repeats with the Entr-acte.
