8:59 - I wonder if that interval tune was based on a hymn? Its melodic/harmonic structure makes me think of a hymn’s structure and I can imagine it being played on an organ with the congregation singing the melody.

The SW ident at 6:28 just reminds me of the sound effect for the windmill in the 1970's UK stop-frame animation Trumpton.
Enjoying hearing these new episodes. Listened to the original series many times, so many years ago on the PhoneTrips site.

Love listening to this stuff. There is something so wild-west about it that you really can't get these days anymore.

I've got to use one of those jamming jingles you created for an alarm clock sound. The math quotes would be pure torture!!

Do you have a call to Japan somewhere in your tapes, by any chance? I swear I remember hearing a tape where you called Japan to collect their intercept recordings, and they had a nice little melody that introduced the recording.

Boy, we effectively lived parallel lives. The only difference is that between my obsession with shortwave (which began when I was 9) and phones, I got into CB radio for a while. This was back in the 23 channel days, around 1972-73. I found this video both fascinating and quite entertaining. I wonder if that "jammer" could have been me. 🤔😁

Me too - in fact, how I got into phones myself was listening to CB one night on my Radio Shack DX-160 and these two guys were giving phone numbers of phone company looparounds as well as "jam lines" (Minnesota slang for lines ringing busy or announcement message allowing people to chat between busy pulses). When I heard Evan, it was like "I wonder if I talked to this guy way back in the day" because tons of people had aliases or conference line aliases.

I always love listening to Fred and Felix's little investigation. They may be boneheads, but that was a top notch sorta early example of social engineering. Which as someone with an interest in cybersecurity, is always interesting to see.

That was a jamming loop featuring Neil making deliberately gross noises, double-tracked.

This really belongs on the Ep 11 souncloud page, but I dont have and don't want an account with them. Are there any resources on open-sleeve lines (what condition on the sleeve lead gives them their special behavior and how that can be turned into a conference)? I tried to look it up but found absolutely nothing.
