    Good deal for $1K. The labor of rebuilding cylinders, changing tires, fluids is the issue where it's a win-win exchange.

    • @charlestatakis9363
      @charlestatakis9363 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GrimesGarage You're right but it's the labor. If there's a good 30 hours to replace, rebuild everything that would be another $4K on a truck that's worth $2K. I can see why they sold it for $1K. The replacement parts might be well under $800 so it's truly a great deal for both the seller and buyer.

    • @scottfirman

      My dad worked for Clark as a service person. He rebuilt hundreds of hydraulic cylinders. He even built a lawn mower with an old golf cart, a Wisconsin engine and a hydraulic motor with a blade mounted to it. You actually sat on the fluid tank that got hot as hell. It also butched the lawn because it had no floating head. It cost more to build than a new riding mower.

    Biggest areas to check on a used forklift that's either electric or propane:
    Forks - look for cracks or blades that are not aligned.
    Lift Chains - check for excessive or out of place gaps between links.
    Mast - watch how smoothly the mast operates when going up and down. Ask to see how it works with a load as well.
    Tires - look for chunking, radial cracks and tread depth. Make sure the tires are fairly new.
    Battery - for electric forklifts, look at the age of the battery, ask how many hours of use the battery has and measure the voltage.
    Engine - for diesel forklifts check the exhaust emissions.
    Leaks - look along the mast, transmission and radiator for any leaks.
    Safety Features - make sure the horn, seatbelt, lights, brakes, and levers all work.
    Great work overall! You found a steal, she's got some beauty marks but as long as you PM every 500 hours or every 6 months you'll be in great shape!

    I drive forklifts for work, and they're tons of fun. We've got a few clarks, though they're electrics. They're tanks, though.

    That is not a turning brake.
    It is an inching pedal. (Inch/Brake pedal)
    "Its function is twofold. It initially acts as a brake and secondly disengages the transmission, allowing the engine speed to increase or decrease without affecting the drive of the forklift. This process allows the forklift to be slowed or stopped while at the same time allowing the engine speed to be raised. Henceforth, this is how the, “Inching” came to be.
    Why would you need this feature? Inching is used when maneuvering the forklift and simultaneously lifting the forks. To accomplish this, the Inching pedal partially disengages the transmission at the same time the lift truck brakes are being slightly applied and is similar to “slipping the clutch” in a manual transmission Inching allows slow controlled movement of the forklift truck and is accomplished by simultaneous operation of the inch/brake pedal and the accelerator
    In today’s lift trucks, this overlap of transmission and brake is controlled by a single inch/brake pedal. Slight application of the inch/brake pedal allows for inching of the fork lift. Further application of the inch/brake pedal will completely disengage the transmission, fully apply the brakes, and bring he forklift to a complete stop."

      @@kevinthomas895 As far as the engines are concerned. Two thirds of forklifts are electric, and the engine trucks don't have any gearboxes, or brakes for normal use.

    The left pedal is a inching valve , so that when you need to inch into a lift you can use hydraulics and rev motor at the same time as you control the approach of the machine , many 1000s of hours on its older brother

    have the exact same fork over here in Oz be wary the motor in that model is renowned for blown seals in the motor/piston rings in the motor, ours struggles to start now and blows black smoke as the cylinders are full of oil, you can use the bolt hole on the battery tray and just weld some steel together to make an L shaped holder (at least that is what I did!). is side closest to the engine with an M8 bolt thread.

  • @billylemire5469
    @billylemire5469 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One note, those aren't turning brakes, the third pedal is a clutch and brake. If you are lifting something heavy, especially if you are going high up, you need more RPM than idle and that pedal allows you to do so without constantly shifting between neutral and forward/reverse.

    Clark is a pretty good lift, we swapped them out at work with 9,000 to 12,000 hours on them for new ones. Running 24/7 it didn't take long to rack up the hours and the Clark held up pretty good.
