Thanks for the review. I have one and my biggest piece of advice is try and get the mill at a height so the handle stays between your hip and shoulder, it is much easier to turn that way and stand behind the wheel, I find it much easier on my body.
Ah I never thought about that. Unfortunately this is the ONLY place I can put this and it is higher for me. But my next house will have an island that should be the right height. I'm interested to see if it's easier!
@@GrainsandGrit Great advice Debbie C! And Felicia, until you get your next house you could try standing on a sturdy step-stool to make grinding easier. That would definitely take some of the strain off your shoulders. Thank you for your candid video! I laughed so hard 😂! I’ve been dreaming about this mill for a while, but I’ve seen TH-cam videos of grown men sweating after turning that handle for several minutes. I would definitely have to get the drill bit attachment, or the pulley attachment hooked up to a stationary bike.
Hi Felicia! I don't normally comment to any TH-cam content on any channel, so you are special. Yesterday, I assembled the same appliance and found your video later that evening. Your video was great. The instructions are lacking and confusing but I managed to complete it having about the same experience as you did. I think it was in this video ( it may have been another) you demonstrated milling some wheat berries. I'm a 60 year old man but I'm fairly fit. I assumed that operating this thing wouldn't be as difficult for me as you made it out to be . Well, know I know you downplayed the workout you'll get making wheat flour with this mill ☺️. I'm new to all of this having recently seen a video presentation by Sue Becker . I'm glad I found your channel too.
I have an old champion juicer that also has a milling blade for grain and it also can do peanut butter and nut butter. I did try to use it for some sprouted wheat. It was not dehydrated and it had a very hard time going through the machine. I don’t know if I did it wrong or what. But it’s very strong heavy duty juicer so I will try again. However, it is Electric. So I would have to have a generator if the grid went down and wanted to use it.
@@GrainsandGrit it’s not necessary and I don’t do it very often, but it is nice to have the grain sprout because it is at the absolute optimum of its nutritional value at this point. And I have studied this for a very long time. It is absolutely true. It is very difficult to grind it like this, however, unless you dehydrate it. So I don’t do it very often.
Hi. Great video. Thanks. Suggestion. Grind your wheatberries twice. First time do a rough grind. THEN tighten down and run it through again to get the babypowder level flour. Yeah, ya gotta grind twice, but your arms won't fall off from trying to grind from berry to breadflour all in one step. Although.... at least now you don't have to go to the gym ;-)
I put my mill together today. It was more of an assembly project than I thought it was going to be. I got the same thing as you but in addition to that I got the drill attachment. I haven't tried to use that yet but you are right. It does take effort. I didn't get wore out like you. Maybe you have it mounted too high or too low causing you to exert more effort.
40 minutes for 9 cups of flour? heck, that is great! It took me 2.5 hours to grind rice with a mortar and pestle to get half a pound. lol That's why I'm on here looking at hand mill reviews. Thanks for the review.
Fantastic video!! I LOVE that you showed ALL the struggles and even were totally honest with your pros and cons!! I really find your videos to be extremely helpful!! Thank you sister!
I was two clicks away from ordering this. It appeals to me because it’s manual, and looks to do the job. But after I saw a veteran like you struggle a bit, and I have a shoulder issue, I decided to go electric. So worthwhile to watch you!!
Yeah, if you're going to be milling every week (and I recommend you do), an electric is the way to go. But it's such a peace of mind to have a manual backup for when you need it!
I have the older model of this grain mill. I must say I really like the improvements. For my day to day use I use the electric Wondermill. Thank you for taking the time to do this review.
I just purchased one. After the first mass mill, I was disappointed like you. However I did it again today and it went smoothly. I needed to tighten and only put a little at a time. When I out a lot, it doesn’t fall into the agar properly. I had it milled pretty well. The ultimate test of truth was this was the first time my tortillas puffed up. I’ve made tortillas with a vitamin and Metate, wondermill jr delux is the best so far.
I watched a few videos and most appear to be confused about not having clear instructions on assemble of this machine. Thank you Felicia, you definitely helped and I’m going to try to assemble it today 3/14/23
We’ve become so used to how quick and easily our motorized tools allow us to make foods for our families, we forget how much work is involved with manual tools. Fortunately we no longer need to pound grains with wood poles in deep stone bowls just to make our flour, that would have been excruciating I think❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸
We have been talking about getting a manual grain mill. I appreciate you trying them out & reviewing them for us. This one looks so heavy duty. Using a manual mill will get you Michael Obama arms no time! I would love to see you review more manual mills. I have the Grainmaker 99 and bought it because it's supposed to grind more efficiently than the Country Living and includes the auger for legumes and nut butters. And it's made 100% in Montana!
Thanks for the review! My Wonder Mill Jr. Deluxe has been in the box for months. I will put it together it very soon now that I’ve seen your video. I am looking forward to your upcoming video on making corn tortillas as that was one of the reasons I got this particular mill. I’m thankful I found your channel!💟
Same here,, I bought my Wonder Junior Deluxe+ Grain Mill from Pleasant Hill Grain back on 4/12/22 and I still haven't opened up the packaging yet. I use as electric mill for now but I know that the Wonder Junior Deluxe+ Grain Mill will come in very handy one day.
Hi Felicia! I just got into milling grain for my family. Your channel has been very inspirational and informative. I got the same mill and it was very surprising how much of a work out you get from using it. I did get the drill adapter and that made things so much easier. You will need to be careful though, as it will take a High torque and low speed drill. But once you use it it is amazing how fast you can grind your grain. Keep up the great work with all of your videos and website. Your ministry is touching more people than you realize. God bless you and Happy Independence Day!
I looked at several mills offered from sites like Pleasant Hill Grains and Amazon. I saw that they were made in India, Germany, and elsewhere. I finally found one made in the USA, in Montana. The Model 35. (they also make a C clamp for it, it ‘s sold separately) Their model 99 can be upgraded (motor and or an accessory to allow for a connection to your bicycle) For my needs, the hand turn only is fine (gotta keep it simple)
That’s exactly what I was thinking, the natives would use stone bowls and rocks to grind their corn. I’m sure it took hours. Just another show of how weak our culture these days are. I guess in a SHTF situation we will not be making 2 loaves at a time, just one and we would ration it. Also that is probably why woman would have so many kids back then lol! To help grind the flour. I’m glad you were honest, for that much money I would have expected it to be a tiny bit easier. Lol. And using a drill adapter is great but what happens when you have no power to charge the drill battery 🤷♀️ just a thought! I am loving your channel and can not wait to see you make corn tortillas. When I made the homily from scratch the other day and attempted to make corn tortillas they didn’t come out like the stores lol.
Felcia, I was looking into manual, hand-powered mills and your video came up! Do you have any updates that you make after a year? How does this do with making nut butter?
I just received this mill and used it to prepare flour for our first home milled bread. After baking a loaf using your simple recipe I found the bread to have a gritty texture if chewed thoroughly. Is it possible the grinding has deposited some of the stones in the dough? Is this to be expected in the first use of the mill? Will it continue in future milling?
Hi Doug. I'm sure somewhere in the manual it mentions breaking in the stones by running a few cups of berries through it. Rice should work if you don't want to burn through those precious berries. I'm still wondering about pulling the trigger for this one. I have the Victorio Deluxe model that has been reviewed by Grains and Grit. Happy baking!
I've never had this problem, myself. But from my research I believe it is only from stone mills that need to be broken in by running a few cups of rice through it. I'm thinking about doing a video about this soon.
@@GrainsandGrit Just for the record, I ran an additional 3 cups of wheat through the mill and had a similar result. (It is a labor of love to use this mill. Let's hear it for upper body exercise.) I will put the same amount of rice through then check with 3 cups of wheat.
I am SO grateful to you!! Im JUST getting into all this and I'm so excited about it! Never made bread and im going all in ; I have no idea where to start or how to make it 🙃 😅 thank you sister!!! God bless you and yours!! Looking forward to the rest of your videos!
I started out with the Junior Deluxe. Just got my electric wondermill last week, and I'm SO happy. Really happy to have the Junior for various things, but relieved with the convenience of an electric grain mill! My kids and I would take turns using the hand mill. It's a lot of work and takes a long time!
i’m so glad to have found your channel and videos. i love most how forthcoming you are with your initial thoughts-(and not editing them out). i have this mill and have been using it for around a month now. it is work!! i don’t mind it too much, and it has made me aware of how much time and effort preparing food was years ago. now i understand another reason for“giving thanks” for our daily bread- after all that work one is more thankful. i’m sure the kids were involved in the process… ha ha. i was anticipating when you started milling, and had a smile when the burn probably set in. can’t wait for the tortilla recipe. i would ask if you may consider doing a sprouted grain video. in the wonder mill advertisement, they showed milling wet spirited grain. i can’t seem to find any examples of that. but i would like to do more with sprouted grains and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of good videos. thanks again for all the investment!
You bet - a lot of work and grace goes into our daily bread! By the way, you might find this video I made on sprouting grains to be helpful on the subject: th-cam.com/video/iudxmqan2CI/w-d-xo.html
Awesome video ! I have the Wonder Junior as well and after watching you put it all tougher and trouble shoot…. I’m even MORE thankful that my hubby did it for me :). It is a workout for sure ! I definitely brought my daughter in on the process to help lol
lol I'm telling you the assembly...it was kicking my tail. So many mistakes were edited out! I may have just been distracted trying to record it all. I have to make sure it stays in the shot, etc. It might have been easier without a camera watching me :-p
@@GrainsandGrit Was WAY impressed you did the set up while on camera ! I was like, Dang girl… get it !!! Way more courageous than me. I just passed it to my hubby lol
Thank you for another fabulous and informative video! I have had mine for a couple months and love it! I grind both beans and wheat and want to try brown rice. I have the electric Wondermill so I needed the hand mill both for emergencies and cracked/coarse grinds. The knobs to change the tension are so easy to use! I love cream of wheat and bean flour for refried beans and thickening soup, etc. I love the book Country Beans by Rita Bingham.
You are absolutely fabulous. Do you stock up on water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? It would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping trip
I really appreciate your honest review! I own a hand mill (Roots and Branches) that is much cheaper, and really does a good job of grinding very fine flour. After your video, I remain content!
I bought a Grainmaker mill (manual) and after grinding flour for two loafs I powered it! It’s a work out! I suppose in a grid down situation you could revert to manual and then enlist those that expect to “eat” the bread to grind it!
When my hubby bought me the wonder Jr deluxe plus mill for Christmas... I must have been about 72 years old. It was so hard but because of the investment, we kept trying. But now you understand why I recently bought an electric Wonder Mill. I love it! And
It says it should be in stock July 5th. Do know I received mine sooner than it said it would be back in stock so you can still order and when it comes in, they'll ship it!
I have looked everywhere and they are sold out. But I was able to order from roots and harvest and will get it around the first part of August. So I wish you luck on finding one!!!💜
@@hopemoody4854 I’ve been watching at a few places. The finances are a little thin but hoping that the finances match up with availability this year. 🙂
Lol! This video cracked me up Felicia because this would be ME! After watching, I’ll have my husband set mine up and look into getting the attachment. Appreciate the video! God bless!
It'll get ya in shape for sure - you could always get your husbands electric drill and attach it to the end. This was a. try useful video, ty so much for showing us how human we should all be learning the real life.
Logically speaking, I don’t think they would be damaged, per say, they would just need some serious cleaning. And it would be a pain!! But if you put wet grains in an electric mill with stones THAT would damage it.
I don't go super fine any more. With that being said, it generally takes me an hour to grind 3 1/2 cups of Hard Red / White berries. However, if I go to loose - the bread don't rise well.
I've been looking for a mill for corn masa. Love that you make itl! Looking forward to your video on corn tortillas! By the way, harina is pronounced "ah-ree-nah" (the H at the beginning is silent). It sounds like you are saying "arena" (ah-reh-nah) and adding an H at the beginning. "Arena" in Spanish is dirt/sand. Not sure if you care, but kept picturing sand so I wanted to share. Thanks for this initial review. Hoping to see it get easier with the extra attachments! 🙏🏼
Ah good to know! I always pronounce it with an "h" at the beginning because that's how it's spelled. Thank you for helping me to not look like an idiot when I actually make that video lol
Thanks for the review on this Mill. I bought a less expensive one and sent it back because of the difficulty and after seeing how difficult the higher end manual mill is to operate, I've decided if we lose electricity Momma ain't bakin bread. 🤣
I hated the idea of buying another grinder or a mill for just coffee beans, then one for this and one for that, THIS one will do it ALL!! Electric is super convenient, but I would still use this multiple times a week for a lot of other things!!! Since you can use it for butter, can you use it for something like tomatoes or chic peas for hummus??
I have both the manual and electric Wondermills and am currently putting together a 12 volt motor for the manual mill. SHTF or not if it isn't powered it wont get used. JMHO.
For those whose air is going out - before any big overhaul or something else a repair person might say is needed - have them check/show you the capacitor - it’s a rather inexpensive item and often goes out. Not hard to get to on the your outside air conditioner compressor. Look up on TH-cam if needed. Hope this helps -
I’m sitting here with the power out and making cowboy coffee outside. This is the next gadget I want to buy. I could be making bread in the cast iron outside if we had one of these. I see the importance of getting one for that just in case times ! I have lots of wheat berries but no way to grind them. The lines are down all day.
Oh my word I couldn't even afford this mill I have to get cheap one my son bought my kitchen aid one but oh lordy there high I can for get this but I love to see how good they are
Felicia, I enjoy the heck out of your videos. Good job giving your hubby a shout out. I trust you guys got the air conditioning fixed right away. We live in southern Arizona. And wouldn’t ya know it - our air conditioner gave out a few weeks ago, on a day when it was 108 degrees! Dry heat or not - it ain’t comfortable when it’s that hot. It took ten days to get the new system installed. So we drove nine hours to California to visit relatives. Y’all know that things can happen in an instant. Most things you can prepare for. We should have replaced our HVAC system - but we procrastinated. I’m glad we have not procrastinated on the food and survival side of things. Your channel is invaluable. People had better start paying attention. The wheels have been set in motion - and the future does not appear rosey.
Thank-you so much! 108 degrees is just plain too hot!! Well, I'm glad you're getting prepared sooner rather than later. Have you gone through our prepping with grains course yet? Would love to hear your thoughts on it!
Good morning! Just saw this!! I have this exact mill!! I started out with it and still have it ‘just in case’ It works great but…. milling red wheat will put you in a sweat 😅 and the soft wheat takes FOREVER! Einkorn is super fast. Overall I love all the different things you can mill with it and to just have all those options
Can you grind wet sprouted wheat grains using the metal burrs? On that subject, do you need metal burrs to grind wet sprouted wheat, such as kitchenaid wheat mill attachment for their mixers, I believe they are metal burrs? Not to be picky but how much wet corn did you add to the hopper? It looked to me that you put only a large handful in and you ground it all in the demonstration. Nicely done demonstration btw.
I actually put two large handfuls of corn in, I think you just saw one 😀 And as far as wet sprouted grains, yes you would definitely use the steel burrs. You do NOT want to put anything wet into your typical grain mills because it will ruin them. This is the only hand mill I am aware of that can do both dry and wet grains.
@@GrainsandGrit I’m supper excited! I want to grind wet sprouted wheat grains. If you weigh the grains before you sprout then weigh before you grind, calculate how much water is absorbed by the grains. Then adjust the water content accordingly and make bread. Do you think my thought process is correct?
@@GrainsandGrit do you know of a bread recipe that would work with sprouted grains that are still wet. Do you think weighing the grains dry next sprout them, drain them then weigh to see how much water was absorbed. if water needs to be added or not. I do not necessarily want to add dry flour if possible. Can you do a sour dough or yeast bread?
What a great review. You earned a new subscriber. I ended up order this exact one after your in depth review. Stability is important. I have had the electric wonder mill and love it but I’d want to have a backup that is quality made. -Lydiya
I have a Komo hand mill that does wheat and dry grains and it takes so much time and muscle power. This may be worth the money to get the drill attachment.
@@GrainsandGrit I just got to that part on the video. LoL I have milled one cup in the komo mill and it kicked my bottom. It is hard work. Definitely something to put teenage kids to do if you have them. 😂
I have a nice small herb grinder that will also grind flour. I checked the price out for this manual grinder and it may be super, but this is NOT even remotely in my budget. I only spent $90 on my electric grinder that works. How about helping some of us out. I would like to be able to use my stored whole grains in an emergency situation. I found one on Amazon made in Columbia for $49. That's after I buy a pressure canner. I just hope the SHTF doesn't happen too soon.
Wow, that's an amazing price. I can't help but wonder what it's made of at such a cheap price. Is it made of durable materials? A mill is a high-impact tool.
I was just looking to buy one of those but I'm with you, it takes so long so I probably wouldn't use it unless power was out. Major issue is I'm just getting started with milling to make my own bread and sadly I probably wouldn't want to make bread often using of this device. So I don't think this mill is good for beginners. Not ideal. Great for backup Emergencies but not daily use. Bummer!
Exactly. The best mill is the one you're going to actually use to make your daily bread. Backups are important, but they're meant for backup, not every day.
The audio is really quiet at the end, and my house is so loud. I'll have to watch the end later. :( and what are you saying about the corn? You say it so fast, mixemalized? is that it?
I do apologize about the sound. Something went wrong with my microphone at the end and I didn't realize it until I couldn't re-film. Ugh. Yes, the corn has been nixtamilized. It's corn that has been soaked in a calcium lime solution overnight. It's how they have been making corn tortillas for thousands of years :-)
@@GrainsandGrit thank you for all you do! I'm a beginner and I've been using your bread recipe printout. It's very helpful. and I just made cream of wheat from your video, which is a new favorite in our house. It took a few tries to get the texture right on my nutrimill, but I finally got it! I also tried your cinnamon rolls which i liked but the kids complained the bread part was too much like bread, and the sweet part was too sweet, if that makes sense. So I have more work to do there!
lol In Mexico some women will still use a metate (mealing stone) which is a traditional grinding stone. It's legit hard work, but I hope to get my hands on one of those too!
You said, you were sweating, due to it being so hot in your home, wiped your forehead, and face, then turned around and put your fingers in the flour.!??

The Model 35. (they also make a C clamp for it, it ‘s sold separately) Their model 99 can be upgraded (motor and or an accessory to allow for a connection to your bicycle) For my needs, the hand turn only is fine (gotta keep it simple)
Cool. Yeah, Germany is renowned for their incredible quality. I love German-made things. But glad you found what you wanted.
$525+ ?
No way!
Thanks for the review! And yes manual takes time. My mom is native American and would use stones when she was a kid and it took time.
God bless her! lol It's amazing how we don't even realize anymore how much time things like this used to take.
Does the Wondermill produce a really fine flour or does the Nutrimill Harvest produce a finer flour?
Just got mine, thank you!
It really did me well during the past week! I've been totally grid down and loving this mill!
Felcia, I was looking into manual, hand-powered mills and your video came up! Do you have any updates that you make after a year? How does this do with making nut butter?
Funny you should ask. I've been using this one a bit more lately and I'm thinking of posting an update in a few months. Stay tuned.
@@waynehamilton5248 Thanks Wayne. I'll try the rice.
Yes my manual mentions to discard the 1st few cups of 1st grind using the stones. Careful with the teeth
I am SO grateful to you!! Im JUST getting into all this and I'm so excited about it! Never made bread and im going all in ; I have no idea where to start or how to make it 🙃 😅 thank you sister!!! God bless you and yours!! Looking forward to the rest of your videos!
So glad you're here! You can do this!!
I started out with the Junior Deluxe. Just got my electric wondermill last week, and I'm SO happy. Really happy to have the Junior for various things, but relieved with the convenience of an electric grain mill! My kids and I would take turns using the hand mill. It's a lot of work and takes a long time!
Oh that electric grain mill is going to be such a huge blessing!!! So glad you were able to get one :-)
I am happy you are doing thos, and I have ehad mine for a year buy javent tried it yet
i’m so glad to have found your channel and videos. i love most how forthcoming you are with your initial thoughts-(and not editing them out). i have this mill and have been using it for around a month now. it is work!! i don’t mind it too much, and it has made me aware of how much time and effort preparing food was years ago. now i understand another reason for“giving thanks” for our daily bread- after all that work one is more thankful. i’m sure the kids were involved in the process… ha ha. i was anticipating when you started milling, and had a smile when the burn probably set in. can’t wait for the tortilla recipe. i would ask if you may consider doing a sprouted grain video.
in the wonder mill advertisement, they showed milling wet spirited grain. i can’t seem to find any examples of that. but i would like to do more with sprouted grains and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of good videos. thanks again for all the investment!
Oh this would do refried beans well! Didn't think of that!
You are absolutely fabulous. Do you stock up on water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? It would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping trip
Thanks for the idea!
I wonder could you use the wet set up for flaking oats and not need a separate flaker?
Thank you for sharing this 🙏 wonderful grain mill ❤️ tutorial
My pleasure 😊
I really appreciate your honest review! I own a hand mill (Roots and Branches) that is much cheaper, and really does a good job of grinding very fine flour. After your video, I remain content!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. We love PHG!!
I bought a Grainmaker mill (manual) and after grinding flour for two loafs I powered it! It’s a work out! I suppose in a grid down situation you could revert to manual and then enlist those that expect to “eat” the bread to grind it!
Just like the little red hen, that's right!
So excited about your upcoming corn tortillas video!! I finally got the hang of flour tortillas but corn tortillas not so much
When my hubby bought me the wonder Jr deluxe plus mill for Christmas... I must have been about 72 years old. It was so hard but because of the investment, we kept trying. But now you understand why I recently bought an electric Wonder Mill. I love it!
And
Just went to the site, ugh they are sold out!! But oh my gosh they have so much!! Thank you for the great resource!
It says it should be in stock July 5th. Do know I received mine sooner than it said it would be back in stock so you can still order and when it comes in, they'll ship it!
I so look forward to the day I will be able to purchase one of these! Hopefully, this year.
@@kl4888 yeah they are a lot more than I thought they would be 🤯 I was looking on amazon and found some cheaper but scared to buy from amazon .
I recently got this mill, as well and had the same experience. So far I haven’t done any power augmentation. I’d love to see that video!
Lol! This video cracked me up Felicia because this would be ME! After watching, I’ll have my husband set mine up and look into getting the attachment. Appreciate the video! God bless!
Lol good idea
It'll get ya in shape for sure - you could always get your husbands electric drill and attach it to the end. This was a. try useful video, ty so much for showing us how human we should all be learning the real life.
Well, I've got electric mills. But it's nice to have a manual option just in case.
@@GrainsandGrit I really need this.
What would happen if you used the stone discs for wet ingredients? Asking if it would just need cleaning or is it likely to become damaged?
It does take a lot of cranking!
Where can I find your bread recipes? Thanks!
Here you go: grainsandgrit.com/recipes/
I hated the idea of buying another grinder or a mill for just coffee beans, then one for this and one for that, THIS one will do it ALL!! Electric is super convenient, but I would still use this multiple times a week for a lot of other things!!! Since you can use it for butter, can you use it for something like tomatoes or chic peas for hummus??
I’ll definitely hook ours up to a bicycle when we get one!! 🤣
I have both the manual and electric Wondermills and am currently putting together a 12 volt motor for the manual mill. SHTF or not if it isn't powered it wont get used. JMHO.
I’m with ya on that lol
My air went out Weds. so I hear and feel ya!
Oh no! Well, this would definitely come in handy in a situation like that!
Oh my word I couldn't even afford this mill I have to get cheap one my son bought my kitchen aid one but oh lordy there high I can for get this but I love to see how good they are
Felicia,
I enjoy the heck out of your videos.
I started out with it and still have it ‘just in case’
It works great but…. milling red wheat will put you in a sweat 😅 and the soft wheat takes FOREVER!
I actually put two large handfuls of corn in, I think you just saw one 😀
And as far as wet sprouted grains, yes you would definitely use the steel burrs.
Can you do a sour dough or yeast bread?
do the grinding stones wear down after a while and need to be changed ??
After a LONG while, yes.
What a great review. You earned a new subscriber. I ended up order this exact one after your in depth review. Stability is important. I have had the electric wonder mill and love it but I’d want to have a backup that is quality made.

Thanks for the sub!
This was brilliant!! Funny 😆 and actually really helpful!! Thanks for helping us out with this review 💖
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this review. Very thorough
That face you make after a few cranks! 🤣😂🤣😂 Thanks for the review!!!
Oh I'm excited for you Felicia 🤗☺
Can you run it through twice to get the flour fine?
It might help!
Thank you for the informative videos
Sorry but is there anything for rolling oats
I would call the company and find out what the problem is...and I hope you guys r using organic grains
Organic is where it's at! :-)
Minus the high shriek a good video.
I dehydrate my corn and grind in my Mockmill 200.
I have dreamed of one of those! They make nut butter! That is huge for whole food!
Yep!
I have a Komo hand mill that does wheat and dry grains and it takes so much time and muscle power. This may be worth the money to get the drill attachment.
@@Mindy56743 Yes, the drill attachment is about $30 on Amazon. I think it will be well worth it!
@@GrainsandGrit I just got to that part on the video. LoL I have milled one cup in the komo mill and it kicked my bottom. It is hard work. Definitely something to put teenage kids to do if you have them. 😂
I want a hand cranked grain mill I have the mill on my kitchen aid but I still trying to get my grains
I know this video is a yr old but you can buy a drill attachment ($40) and you can automate your mill
PS. I'm actually looking for bread pastry ideas from home millers
. how do you work pistachios, pumpking seeds, halves...i have no teeth, so i can't bite
Move the mill lower so the milling process will be easier on you.
Thank you for this review. Let's hope the electric never goes out... even if we can grind our grains manually, how would we bake? lol
With fire! I actually cover this in my prepping course. Check it out: grainsandgrit.com/prepwithgrains
Might be better to break the work down to bite-size chunks. Maybe over a weekend and vacuum seal the flour in jars and do the baking during the week.
Fresh ground flour is best done daily. And vacuum sealing just adds extra work.
You overlooked the section of the manual that states to "finger tighten only" which means you do NOT use a tool to tighten. Just a head's up.
Thanks!!
@@GrainsandGrit You're welcome!
Do you mind sharing which grinder you have?
I was just looking to buy one of those but I'm with you, it takes so long so I probably wouldn't use it unless power was out. Major issue is I'm just getting started with milling to make my own bread and sadly I probably wouldn't want to make bread often using of this device. So I don't think this mill is good for beginners. Not ideal. Great for backup Emergencies but not daily use. Bummer!
Exactly. The best mill is the one you're going to actually use to make your daily bread. Backups are important, but they're meant for backup, not every day.
It would be so nice if they offered this mill in PLAIN stainless steel rather than the bright red.
Just curious, are you sitting, short or have really tall counters?! No offense intended, I'm just really tall and honestly wondering.
Haha, I am a shorty. But I'm also standing at an elevated countertop.
It's how they have been making corn tortillas for thousands of years :-)
@@GrainsandGrit I've heard you mention it before and I thought, "what is that word?" lol
@@Via-Logos I hope to have a full video all about it in a few weeks. I will definitely explain it all in depth then!
@@GrainsandGrit I love a video on how you do it!
Bicycle sold separately 😂
love t-what a useful video. see ya!!guy-=)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think it would be fun if you made a video pounding wheat with a big mortar and pestle like in Biblical times.
lol In Mexico some women will still use a metate (mealing stone) which is a traditional grinding stone. It's legit hard work, but I hope to get my hands on one of those too!
I bet that is hard work, I don’t think I would have any skin on my knuckles left
I think you’re turning the Handle the wrong way.
You said, you were sweating, due to it being so hot in your home, wiped your forehead, and face, then turned around and put your fingers in the flour.!??
💪😁
Yea the directions suck on this mill.
