    I love how morally grey the series is, silco makes a fantastic character especially during this episode when he visits a statue of vander and exclaims he now understands what it’s like when you have someone to lose, and how it’s changed him. Don’t get me wrong he’s still a bastard, but he has reason for his actions and his motives clearly change when he is offered zaun in exchange for jinx.

    A thing most people I’ve seen miss, with that moment where Vi kept telling Jinx to remember who she is, Silco understood that it was actually hurting her instead of helping. He recognizes that Jinx’s past is something that actively harms her, something that Vi who can only see her as Powder fails to recognize. This is why Silco fires at Vi, and it also circles back to Vi’s story of imaginary monsters.
    Also, man, notice, unlike Vi who freaking punched Powder when she accidentally killed Mylo and Claggor, here with Silco she doesn't berate or blame her for what she did. He instead comforts her and affirms that she's perfect the way she is. It's fucking sad man, how dare they make me cry for the man who did so many heinous shit.

      no silco doesnt recognize shit. Just cause silco loves jinx like a daughter doesnt mean he did good to her. silco just wants her to be jinx, and instead of helping her deal with the past his advice is to just completely kill it , ignore it. If powder had a good parental figure, she wouldn' be so traume full.

    • @christianp5993
      @christianp5993 2 ปีที่แล้ว +101

      @@deliii395 it's actually pretty obvious that Silco does recognize this. He wants her to be Jinx because he very clearly recognizes that's who she has become. You're also misinterpreting the broader meaning of him telling Jinx to let Powder die. It's not about ignoring the past, it's about accepting it and moving forward. Additionally, the idea that Powder's trauma would have been mitigated by simply having a better parental figure is a gross oversimplification of her complex trauma and mental health issues. Silco's supportiveness of Jinx was extremely Vander-like, and something nobody else in the show had ever fully committed to, even Vi. I would even argue that, for someone in Jinx's headspace, having a supportive and accepting parental figure is more important than having them just be a good role model.

    Jinx’s dynamic and relationship with her fatherly figures, ie Vander and Silco, were truly tragic and extremely nuance because they were both accidentally killed by her which truly says something about her introspective conflict and that scene where Silco sits beside Vander’s memorial just makes it a butt tonne more painful as they both had the same intentions of protecting her but her mental psychosis was the true antagonist that consumed her and inevitably corrupted her mind of clarity and judgement.

    • @SillyNep
      @SillyNep 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She clearly has mental issues, the problem here is where she is, there are plenty people who have her problems who live good lives she just never had the right support systems, whether it be due to poverty or in Silcos case his own trauma ridden mentality. Back with Vander she never got affirmation in the way she needed even then she showed promise in her combat abilities with her shooting and such but it was never acknowledged as something worthwhile and she was constantly compared to her sister by Mylo. But at Silcos she was never given that moral grounding that she had at Vanders and while imo he loved her too due to his own corrupted vision of the world he couldn't see what he was saying wasn't helping her the way he thought it did. None of this would even be an issue if there wasn't such inequality between the two cities thought. She could have had a good life with help from family and loved ones. But instead she was stuck in this neverending slide down into hell.

    So I think people think that Silco had just been manipulating Jinx this whole time but I disagree. Not only was he incredibly supportive of her from the beginning, but he clearly genuinely thought Vi was dead. Marcus lied to him and told him she was dead when instead he had her locked up in the safest place to leave her as far as Silco's power extends. Still Water Prison. So he told Jinx the information he knew. That Vi was dead.
    And if you look at the way he acts in this episode when Jayce asks him for Jinx, it's the first time he averts his gaze and looks uncomfortable. He makes excuses for her and tries and fails to bargain with Jayce. Later at the statue of Vander he sounds remorseful about the deal, he's clearly hesitating and regrets the fact that he won't be able to go through with it. Further punctuated by the fact that he criticised Vander for doing what he was planning on doing now. Protecting his adoptive daughter and forsaking his dream of an independent nation of Zaun.
    And in his final moments, he doesn't criticise Jinx, nor does he berate her for killing him. He absolves her. It's a reflection of what happened when she was a kid at the factory. Where Vi slaps her and berates her, Silco tells her its okay, its not her fault and that she's perfect.
    I'm not saying this to shit on Vi either. She's a kid and she was only a kid with too much responsibility, more than she could handle at that age. It's natural she would make a mistake like that.
    But if people don't see that Silco genuinely cared for Jinx and related to her suffering from episode 3, then you weren't paying enough attention

    ambessa medarda (mel's mom) didnt banish mel because she had sympathy but because ambessa could'nt help but feel bad and unable to make the decisions she makes whenever mel gave her the look of disapproval at her every choice. Choices that kept mel, and the rest of the family alive. It's easier to make difficult choices when the people you love aren't there to judge you. It just shows that mel is the most important person to ambessa.

      A lot of people missed that extra detail the animator's threw into her eyes when she spoke those lines. The tough old bird actually looked genuinely hurt that her daughter didn't understand why she did what she did. Mel made her question her morals, which I gathered from reading between the lines that any such momentary weakness of conviction would cost them their lives if she allowed it to continue. She may be a ruthless leader, but she's still loves her daughter immensely.

    • @deliii395
      @deliii395 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Dilligff yeah she didnt want to look like a monster infront of mel and that's why she banished mel. It's a very extreme meausure but it's kind of understandable and it's also understandable why mel would stand against her mom due to idealogical differences even though she clearly loves her family too.

    I just realized that the ending with jinx shooting that missile is just like when she blew up the hole place up in episode 3, she did the same thing again, killed people and made the situation worse, if she didn't blew up that place vender and her friends would have lived, and in the end if she didn't short the missile the council would have aproved jayces idea and would have "freed" the undercity. Its sad to say but jinx lived up to her name again.

    The reason why Mel’s painting is all messed up is because Mel painted over it. That is a painting of Mel’s home (Noxus). She painted over it/messed it up as sign of showing discontent or disagreement with her Mother and Noxus. That’s the message that Mel’s mom will get upon seeing that messed up painting.

    This show is honestly heartbreaking. Powder just needed to be loved by the right person. But because she was with the wrong people and thought that her sister abandoned her for years she become something she should not have become.
    I want nothing more for her to be happy and loved again, but it will probably never happen now. :(
    Also, Vi fucked up big time obviously when she left Powder alone and when she hit her. She immediately noticed though, but it was too late, this one mistake fucked everything up.

    I loved seeing you love this. I've disagreed with you on albums in the past, so I was so excited to see how this would hit you. I'm glad that people whose taste I respect enjoy this show. I thought I may have been caught up in the fanfare, as I just started playing League in January, but no. Multiple reactions and analyses have reaffirmed that, yes, it is good. The art is nearly unique, but reminiscent of works such as Borderlands, Guitar Hero, and many more. All of the [main] characters had dynamic arcs, fleshed out personalities, well-defined motivations, and exactly how you'd expect those characters to interact. The show threw surprises at you, but it was more in the display of how things were than in the story direction. Then again, sometimes you have moments like Jinx's firelight bombs on the bridge, and that fight is unforgettable. The choreography and fighting was well-executed, and made you feel exhilaration watching the conflicts. It also stuck out to me during episode 5 or 6 or whatever it was how you pointed out Viktor's face showed he was thinking about how Jayce wasn't with him while working on the Hexcore. To me, that confirms that the animation is way more intense than most other works I've seen. They took their medium, and pushed it not quite to its limits. But they took every opportunity to make a visual statement, in the vein of "show, don't tell".
    I agree with your rating. Not much to complain about. In fact, even the Imagine Dragons song has grown on me, if only because it's tied to such a fantastic thrill ride.

    Silco was the only one who could accept Jinx as who she was. He wouldve accepted her as Powder or Jinx, but he knew she really was Jinx. Vi turned her back on Jinx, denying Jinx even existed. she had this nostalgic iealistic vision of Powder. and when Jinx accidentaly kills Silco in a panic, Silco isnt mad at her. he doesnt blame her, unlike Vi in ep 3. He loves her, more than anything.

    Here's my review I did not too long ago:
    I wasn't expecting this to resonate so heavily with the things that I love, I want to preface this by saying that I have not played League Of Legends and do not overly seem interested in playing it.
    This series however give me so much kept my interest through a different medium for the whole thing without having any prior knowledge of the game, which is a testament to the writing of the show because it shouldn't work on paper.
    I love animation, a part of me wants to say I love it more than film but I think they both break off two ends of the stick that are the same length in my opinion.
    Film is the most honest performance you can capture in real time capturing raw emotion, while
    animation is better at pushing the fantastical elements and exaggerating them to its fullest through stylistic interpretation.
    Arcane give me everything I was missing from animation, while also giving me something entirely different with a fantastical world and subversive character-driven writing.
    It sets the stage with what you'd expect but also pulls the rug from underneath you, it takes advantage of its 15 rating, while also not being over excessive with language or violence. It's all there and it's pretty cool and all but it's about presentation, this streampunk world mixed with the right of sci-fi feels like a place I want to go! The animation is fluid and beautiful, everything is watercolored over 3D and there's also hand animated stuff it's so special that we have cinema animation for a show like this, the characters are also part of this package. Powder and Vi sell the show, we get to see Vi progression, how she doesn't like getting treated as a lower class citizen and how she's be delt injustice her whole life
    and Powder is one of the most well written protagonists I've seen in along time, because she's not the hero of the story.
    She makes choices that are foolish because she doesn't know better and it's how everyone including her sister reacts to those choices that really made me fall in love with it...No character, is right. There are so many of them for you to enjoy, all written well, I won't spoil.
    Arcane is show about choice and sacrifice, complex ideology, politics but ultimately it's a show about the way we are raised and the hand we've been delt and how we use it, injustice from nature/nurture and people who have it better and how we choose to be as we are now viruses how we've or other people have been.
    This is a fantastic show with action that is fluid, writing that is engaging and performances that just break their way through animation, the only nitpicky things is that the characters dialogue can be written in some dumb cliche ways on occasion "you're hot, cupcake." isn't that great, please don't call a women that, I'm woke, sorry not sorry. Music choices aren't the good, the theme is done by Imagine Dragons of all people? I really wish animation could just be left with scores instead of being stuffed with licensed artists I don't even know because I'd never listen to them if you paid me.
    But despite this Arcane is good I want more, it's the best animated property to come out this decade so far, I'm so lucky Spider-Verse came out last because I'd be biting my tongue so hard it would bleed.

    People who say that jinx ruined the peace detween piltover y zaun did
    not pay attention to the serie really because the condition that jayce
    put silco in order for there to be peace between the two cities was that
    silco deliver jinx to justice, even if jinx in the end of the chapter
    would not fire her cannon against the council there would be no peace
    anyway, silco would never do that and jinx would no surrender
    voulntarily either...so, even without jinx firing there would still be
    conflict between them, zaun and piltover.

    After Synged fixed her to me it seems Powder and Jinx personalities finally fused into one: the grown up Powder that choose to be called Jinx. You can see now that she is more... present, conscious, less erratic (always crazy though) I think Powder finally chose to let go of the past and move forward, she even tell Vi "You changed too." and ending recognising both the sisters have changed and is time to move forward with their lives.
    I think this the most sane, and stable i've ever seen Powder/Jinx after the first arc of the story.
    Also i think she still love Vi as Vi loves her, but too much has happened and their relationship can never be like it was before. After all, in the end, Jinx saw Silco about to shoot Vi and she choosed to stop him, killing him. She even left Caitlyn alive: Jinx could have killed her but she wasn't willing to cause anymore pain to Vi, i think.
    It makes me even wonder that Powder chosed be called Jinx and move forward to let Vi finally free to live her life, to not to be a burden to her animore.

    I think season 2 can go in either of 2 directions, both involving Noxus. Either the story picks up from here with Mel dead angering her mother who gets Noxus involved somehow with the Piltover/Zaun characters or the story focuses wholly on Noxus. Either way I think Mel's mother talking about a man killing her son is supposed to hint at Swain who in the lore takes over Noxus by just killing all the other people in power I believe, foreshadowing him as perhaps the villain of season 2.

    Curious to see how Piltover and Zaun will go from here, it is probably gonna be a big war between Zaun and Piltover where Viktor will be on Zaun's side with his glorious evolution. So it would be...
    Viktor, Singed, Jinx, Wariwick (?) vs. Vi, Caitlyn, Jayce and perhaps Mel. Maybe Piltover makes a deal with Noxus to trade weapons/hextech for military help from Noxus? All I know is if Riot/Fortiche can make season 2 remotely as good as season 1, it will be a banger

    Silco was going to kill Vi, but Jinx instinctively protected her by shooting him. Unlike Vi, Jinx chose her over someone else, even if it wasn't intentional. I like Vi but ugh, I wish she had stopped pushing so hard on Jinx "being Powder" again. Powder and Jinx aren't costumes; it doesn't work like that. But I understand her naivete; after all, she was in prison for 10 years so she doesn't realize the extent of Jinx's mental instability.

    The first time I watched the series, I was so fucking afraid that the end was coming that I didn't appreciate Sting's song and then I was so fucking pissed that it ended that I hated the cliffhanger. The fact that they killed off Silco bothered me quite a lot, it didn't help (I still think it was a semi-bad idea). The second time, I fell in love with the song, and the cliffhanger didn't seem that reckless and frustrating, at all. Plus, figuring out that the missile wouldn't wipe out the entire Council thanks to Mel helped.
    In other words, this show has a few flaws, but it's still magnificent from start to finish.
