IMO..... the Pearl floating 14x6.5 (brass or steel) is the greatest snare drum in history.

Cant argue with that. Fan of your channel, by the way. I've always enjoyed what you do.

Awesome snare drum! I have started collecting free floaters, 14x8 brass, 14x8 maple, 14x6.5 copper (CB700). Such great sounding snares!

I had that same drum, great drum, it was my main drum for along time. I traded it for a 1976 Ludwig white cortex 12,13,16,22.

Loved that low tuning. I have the 3.5" free floating in maple and love it, but it can't do that!

I have the 3 1/2" in the brass and it's one of my favourite piccolos actually. The whole line of brass drums is fantastic I think.

Why you can do that? Ive got the 3'5 brass and can do any tunning...

I asked the guy I sold my 6.5x14 brass free floater to if I could buy it back and he said yes! I pick it up today!!

It's not where I'd choose to have it, but I agree it sounds alright down too.

Nice batter head selection. With an Ambassador or G1, the ring would be out of control. Sounded perfect at higher tunings without the need for any dampening.

The best I ever heard this same snare drum is from drummer Jonas Ekdahl with the band Evergrey on their live concert DVD a night to remember. Though Jonas used a slight different head, a Remo Emperor X on the batter side. He got such a beautiful crack with just the right amount of dryness and pop to it.

Ive got an ancient one of these that was in a tour bus fire in Germany 😂 still great sound though ' i think the shell expanded slightly in the heat of the fire ' but that just add's to it
    Absolute tank
