    I remember being obsessed with this movie in my school days.. I also had a wood key chain of the two cartoon characters and I've sketched them multiple times 😂😂

    Isha Koppikar played the ‘forward’ and cool girl so obviously by Bollywood logic her name is Diana.

    This was Kiran Kher’s first loud-Punjabi-mom movie which everyone was raving about, and after this they kept repeating it. Also this was like a comeback for Rishi Kapoor and they had to make a big deal about the return of yesteryear stars and throw in a ton of homages.

    The animation is really bizarre, I agree. This movie has the most "husband and wife" joke energy if that makes sense. Relies on a lot of stereotypes. The scene between Rani and Saif when they imagine their family is cute

      @dia606 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely, it’s peak Gen X, husband-wife joke. But also that is the generation and audience it was targeting

    Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Hum Tum’ was the Manic Pixie Dream Boy. Maturity is when you realise he’s a catch.

    A guilty pleasure in my opinion. It’s aged horribly which is sad because I loved the travelling, the songs, the acting and the costume/hairstyle storytelling of both the leads.

    There is one thing about Karan Being rich, now it is never revealed in the film how much he was making while being a cartoonist for ToI but it was more than his regular 9-5, which is why he left it. When we see him in Paris he states his cartoons have exploded in popularity, so my guess is he managed to monetize their popularity and became rich off that.

    Sorry guys, I usually enjoy your podcasts but this was just not it!!! The commetary was super surface level. Came across as a lazy attempt at whatever this was. Never really completed your thoughts or topics. Was a bit messy, all over the place tbh. Didn’t seem like you paid enough attention to the movie in order to conduct this conversation. Especially abbas… smh
    Ladki kyun song is obviously a reflection of what the characters think at the time and not what the makers are trying to say 🤦 it’s called character growth ffs.
    Karan’s parents are NOT divorced they are separated. There’s a difference. They just don’t live together
    and are not on talking terms anymore. Karan’s mom mentions this in the beginning saying ‘hum saath nahi rehte hai’ to Kirron kher when she asks about the whereabouts of her husband. Karan at the airport in the very beginning says ‘apke pati, yeh aap pyar se bhi kehe sakti thi’. Even rishi says ‘main apni biwi ki buraai nahi karu toh kiski karu?’ How can you miss clear pieces of information
    A kodak moment is/was a popular expression to say that something, a memory is worth capturing. And it is mentioned as ‘a kodak moment??’ on the greeting card written by Karan wishing the couple on their marriage. Definitely something that Karan would say that’s cheesy. So it was not a blantant product placement at all.
    Abhishek’s character didn’t bombard a stranger (Karan) with all that gyaan our of nowhere. It’s been indicated that they’ve spent some time all together post wedding and up to the airport scene. Ria must have also told him about Karan. Plus he overheard Karan giggling making silly comments just before he enter the mandap. So yeah he knew enough about him to give him advice from one guy to another.
    Rishi saying I wonder what her mom looks like - his son is going on a date with the girl, obviously he’s gonna ask about the mom and not the girl herself, she’s taken by his son ffs🤦🤦🤦 come on guys. It’s clearly isn’t about age and there was no character inconsistency there.
    And these are just some points off the top of my head, there were too many shallow observations/comments throughout. And many points that could’ve been discussed.
    To do a podcast on a film, please watch it carefully, read up about it (not just trivia and how many awards it won). Look into romcom tropes, characters, etc. Maybe even watch the movie twice. Talk to both fans and its critics before filming an episode. Don’t throw words like problematic and aged well when you haven’t delved deep enough. A basic study is needed even for a basic film like Hum Tum. Just some feedback for you guys as a fan ❤
    Also if you find something problematic pls explain properly. Seemed like in this episode abbas just used the word problematic but didn’t actually explain why or struggled to do so. Come on abbas articulate your thoughts as properly as you can!😅

    I bet all the urban romcoms from early 2000s have aged badly because they were suddenly representing a western/American consciousness of an urban elite in neoliberalizing India. This actually wasn’t regressive for 2004 at all, because if you remember how things were then, the culture of dating was just becoming mainstream and Saif was the face of the urban “metrosexual” man who is modern and will do a live-in relationship a la Salaam Namaste but it’s still super scandalous. Malls were being built, cellphones entered people’s lives, people started having jazzy makeup and blonde highlights, reality shows entered india and the culture was suddenly modernizing super fast but it was an awkward and confusing time and people were not chill about it at all especially that Kunal Kohli-Dil Chahta Hai generation.

  • @dysfunctionallymild
    @dysfunctionallymild ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My head canon is that Rishi Kapoor's character arc is the eventual fate of Ranbir Kapoor's character in YJHD. He would get bored of being married and run away to Paris.
    This movie has an almost-good 2nd act (basically the Paris scenes), the 1st act has aged terribly, and the last act in India wasn't even that good at the time it released. The writing and editing becomes scattered towards the end and even the production seems to run out of budget. I never bought the post-hookup break plot point at all, it made no sense. It's only there to setup the climax and because it was a plot point in When Harry Met Sally, but that movie played it off ironically and was gently poking fun at its characters' indecision. This movie plays it as high drama and it's just unconvincing. The whole thing with Saif's character offering to get married was ridiculous and regressive because it doesn't stay true to the playboy character or the story. It's not like he got her pregnant, so there's no reason for them to get married. The reason for it was that that's what would happen in a 'traditional' Bollywood film, so the director's filmy roots clashed with the story he was telling, since it was likely a BIG DEAL for a YRF movie that they hooked up outside of marriage. Plus Shergill's character literally tells Rani's character that Saif's character is into her but doesn't realize it, so it all makes no sense.

    Exactly opposite to you guys , I loved the Ladki kyun najane kyu song, and I still listen to it,
    in a world where jumma chumma dede is remade and is a hit , nobody should be complaining about this song, its just too much political correctness to expect
    Did hate the rest of the movie tho , coz its really very boring after the song

    I don't know what's issue with Kabir Singh it's just a character why u guys take it so seriously and yes there are toxic relationships they have just shown 1 of them I ve even seen more toxic relationships frm both men and women than shown in that movie move on people like that do exist we can't say don't do this or don't do that to the makers it will kill the joy of cinema because it's beauty of cinema to show every aspect of society and they have shown one of it and it has caused so many issues this the reason we will never make good movies because we afraid to see negative sides of people
