I'm Nepali and my boyfriend is German and I really enjoy the food that his parents make. Nudelsalat is one of my fav. And he is also really into Asian food (I cook different things). Oh and he likes spicy food more than me. 😂
One time I tried to bond with my German grandma by asking her about her food - “Grandma this bean salad is great! How did you make the dressing?” She scowled at me and replied sternly: “Mayonnaise, salt, and sugar.” 💀
Eating with her family is like enjoying the volcano. Having meals with his family is like having a vacation in the north pole. You guys are perfect for each other 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
We eat something similar here in the Philippines :) It's called macaroni salad. Everyone makes it differently but my mom's version has elbow pasta, ham, cheese, carrots, mayonnaise, cream, and pickle relish. Really good and commonly eaten during Christmas season!
That's basically what you get here in Germany/Switzerland and Austria. It's the most common type of pasta salad, only cooked eggs being added as extra.
@@baul997 Yeah, which most of the time has less stuff than the pasta one though as the cream is the more important factor there. But still really delicious. I mean we can go on and on, we even have "Wurstsalat", Sausagesalad.
Ah, perhaps because of the large Filipino presence in Hawaii, that’s why there’s the traditional two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad in the traditional “plate lunch.”
We do that in italy too! We usually use "short" (mainly Farfalle) pasta or rice and we put canned tuna, corn, diced tomatoes and sliced wurstels, and since me and my mom like it we also add arugola (I also add some soy sauce when I make it with rice because I like it better than with the mayo but we also sometimes put mayo). My mom also puts boiled eggs but since I don't digest them well she usually avoids putting them. It's a quick summer dish we usually make to bring it to the beach or when it's too hot outside and we want something cold and filling for lunch
I love how this isn't just a "white people make nasty food" video, it's actually poking fun of both sides and how their paletes are different. This channel and Janelle's channel really warm my heart.
100% at some point this White people food = nasty gets old. It's funny cause me and my siblings had to teach my own Zimbabwean mother how to use spices other than salt and curry powder lol
So I accidentally offended my mother in law by adding a ton of seasoning, cheese and then heating up my noodle salad. 😂 she makes it 2 a week and always heats my plate up for me now. “Pasta should be hot” was my defense Edit: since apparently y’all don’t know that different dishes exist, the food I heat up is not Mayo and noodles. Noodle salad in my in laws house is noodles, cut up ham, pepperoni and turkey, with cheese, olives and whatever salad dressing they decide to use, usually Italian dressing. I simply do not put the dressing, and add more cheese and heat it up. And they’ve actually tried it hot as well after I did and now even some of the kids and adults eat it hot. So while y’all can talk about “disrespect” I think opening your mind to the ways other people eat foods can sometime change the way you also eat it.
@@EmilyElfmore-bk5itdon't heat your Nudelsalat. There is mayonnaise in it and you don't wanna heat that up. Also you can put whatever you like in there. Personally I do peas, carrots, pickles, onions, bell pepper, ham/cheese/boiled egg, and finally an apple. Not every salad has to have lettuce in it. Try potatoes with watermelon and feta cheese, great potato salad
That’s not a good defense. There are some really good cold pasta salads that don’t have mayo. I’ve never tried one with Mayo actually and don’t want to 😅. I think your issue was with THAT cold pasta salad. And the pasta salad described in this video? Yikes.
This is really not a good defense, pasta salads are very tasty and the fact that you added cheese and seasoning shows me that you are probably American There are many types of pasta salads, the claim that pasta should always be hot is simply an excuse
For anyone who may not know, these noodles are not uncooked. You cook them, let them cool down and then you add the other ingredients like mayonnaise 😅
@@Aardappelpurreeyou can make it without mayonnaise but with vinegar and oil, salt and pepper instead. Could add: onions, pieces of pickled cucumbers, boiled cold peas, boiled eggs, tomatoes, Petersilie (sorry no English), cheese and so on. Here we also add 'Lyonerwurst' (a kind of 'Fleischwurst').
My family has a similar recipe to this, we mix mayonnaise with tuna and add to the cooked pasta, add olives, peppers, salt and wtv other vegetables we have laying around Then we put it in the fridge for an hour or so It turns out great every time and super easy to make
We have that in Italy too and we are the land of pasta. We have pasta salads as well as rice salads. They usually include a protein like hot dogs/weiners or tuna, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, pickles, olives, corn and for the people that like it, mayonnaise. I love it.
Food that I never imagined to eat but did in one specific anden country: -Pasta and rice with a potato as a dish -shredded cold fish ...or one time hole craps.. with lemon and onion(nice) -a hole chicken foot in a vegitarian soup -boiled water with some little fish and salt in it as a breakfastsoup -guinea pig -frog in a blender Does that ring a bell? Ohh!!!! I really loved Pisco, Pachamanka and grilled Piranha!
Btw cold pasta salad is a real thing in italy, you just need to slightly undercook the pasta and then let it cool down before putting it in the fridge. You can put all sort of things in it like tomatoes, corn, cheese, tuna, eggs, veggies, and you can make a big batch this way you have your lunch ready for the next 2 to 3 days.
But it's Italian style. I make it all the time at home. Cold noodles, cheese, ham or pepperoni, arugula, olives, black olives, capers, vinegar, olive oil, cherry tomatoes or sun dried tomatoes, red onions, Italian spices. It's a family favorite. This German kind seems... less than satisfying. I don't know, maybe it's not so bad, it seems like the flavor would be kind of like potato salad. Maybe if you added some mustard and onions...
@thirstbasket there are some pasta salads that are more like in the video that is also delish. With all due respect to German Bf's mom, that's a very limited ingredient salad. It may be her personal preference, some people are more picky about mixed flavors and textures. I had a friend who just liked buttered noodles with a lil salt. 😂
@@thirstbasketnahh, my friend's mom just made pasta, egg, mayo, pickle, and little pepperoni salad the other day. Literally just like this german one. Don't dictate what everyone in the States are doin. We be doin this, maybe you aren't, but whole ass families up here are.
@@sporks3256No. When you say American pasta salad people are expecting the Italian version. This is a generally true statement. This is a giant “why are we not about me” like seriously eat your mayonnaise noodles by yourself and shut up.
As the daughter of Cubans, Cubans call this Ensalada Fría (Cold salad). Other than the mayo, we add diced ham and pineapple. It's so interesting seeing another variation of the dish. 😊
Oh! it's similar but here in Peru, that salad is really popular only in Christmas, we usually use 3 different colors of noodles, and there's a lot of variants up to your liking: with ham, carrot, pineapple, chickpeas, olives, celery, etc 😂
Diced ham could very well be found in a German noodle salad as well. There's a bunch of different styles of it here. Don't think I've ever seen anyone put pineapple, though.
We also have that here in Türkiye! Called makarna salatası. It tastes really good in summer days when you dont want to eat anything hot/warm and it makes you feel really full while its so easy to cook it.
Depends on the food, but there's a bunch of stuff that's better cold or at room temperature than warm. Of course there are also a bunch of things that are rather disgusting or at least pretty unappealing when they're cold.
Which is surprising considering Germany is not particularly warm lol. I mean in Italy we have a few dishes that are meant to be eaten cold...but we have those in the summer heat when even the idea of turning on the stove makes you sweat.
I ate over my German friends house and was served what looked like a boiled chicken breast and some potato salad on side. What really got me was when the mom placed a bowl of mayo next to me and we all started dipping the chicken in it. Creative AF!
@@user-wm7wj5vl3v It's more common as a potato salad in Germany, too. If it's noodle salad, I prefer oil & vinegar with tomatoes and rucola (no idea what the English word is).

Except pasta salad is a staple all summer long in EVERY Italian home. While it usually has tuna and or sausages (like hot dogs sausages), legumes, hard boiled eggs, olives, and other ingredients like vegetables, it definetly has pickles and pickled vegetables in it. There are entire supermarkets isles full of jars of pickled stuff made for pasta salads and they're are called "condipasta". After i ate about a gallon of the stir fry & a dozen or so pork dumplings, she was convinced i meant it. By the time we left on the 3rd day i was so stuffed i could barely walk, but my taste buds have never been happier & my friend's mom was nagging us to get married. Fun memories.

Lol I had the same with my Indian boyfriend. I made potato salad for him one day, took it out of the fridge and put some on his plate and gave it to him and he looked at me, really puzzled, and said: "Are you not going to put it into the microwave? It's cold." 😂
This moring we were having breakfast (me, mom and dad) my dad served me and him rice, banana and milk (we love it and eat as dessert) mixing it up together but he forget to warm up the milk though rice was warm but it felt bad we both felt same.

We have Filipino macaroni salad, so a fusilli salad is not that different.
I'm Nepali and my boyfriend is German and I really enjoy the food that his parents make. Nudelsalat is one of my fav. And he is also really into Asian food (I cook different things). Oh and he likes spicy food more than me. 😂

@@senorwookie6178don't forget potato salad
@@baul997 Yeah, which most of the time has less stuff than the pasta one though as the cream is the more important factor there. But still really delicious.
I mean we can go on and on, we even have "Wurstsalat", Sausagesalad.

I live in the southern US and that's exactly how we make it here too
They’re definitely end game 😂
We do that in italy too! We usually use "short" (mainly Farfalle) pasta or rice and we put canned tuna, corn, diced tomatoes and sliced wurstels, and since me and my mom like it we also add arugola (I also add some soy sauce when I make it with rice because I like it better than with the mayo but we also sometimes put mayo). My mom also puts boiled eggs but since I don't digest them well she usually avoids putting them. It's a quick summer dish we usually make to bring it to the beach or when it's too hot outside and we want something cold and filling for lunch

So I accidentally offended my mother in law by adding a ton of seasoning, cheese and then heating up my noodle salad. 😂 she makes it 2 a week and always heats my plate up for me now. “Pasta should be hot” was my defense
Edit: since apparently y’all don’t know that different dishes exist, the food I heat up is not Mayo and noodles.
I'll try heating it up next time it's foisted on me. Who knows?
Yikes.
@@SakuraWitchThat makes no sense lol. You’re just describing a regular salad with some noodles added to it 😂
This is really not a good defense, pasta salads are very tasty and the fact that you added cheese and seasoning shows me that you are probably American
There are many types of pasta salads, the claim that pasta should always be hot is simply an excuse
Funny enough, in Brazil we have those too! I love it 😋

-shredded cold fish ...or one time hole craps.. with lemon and onion(nice)
-a hole chicken foot in a vegitarian soup

Btw cold pasta salad is a real thing in italy, you just need to slightly undercook the pasta and then let it cool down before putting it in the fridge. You can put all sort of things in it like tomatoes, corn, cheese, tuna, eggs, veggies, and you can make a big batch this way you have your lunch ready for the next 2 to 3 days.
In denmark too
I love Italian food, but canned tuna is foul, and fully cooked tuna is very bad too. Tuna should be raw, or just seared, always.
Cold pasta salad is a neccesary part of summer time meals in the States!🤩

I'm puerto rican and hate all these variations of the damn noodles xD
Diced ham could very well be found in a German noodle salad as well. There's a bunch of different styles of it here. Don't think I've ever seen anyone put pineapple, though.
I also like cold noodles with pineapple, but I only knew the pinapple - recipe with tuna, pickles etc instead of ham
The German version of Noodle salad that I know also contains ham and apples for sweetness
In Brazil we have it with ham, corn, tomato, even cheese some times
We also have that here in Türkiye! Called makarna salatası. It tastes really good in summer days when you dont want to eat anything hot/warm and it makes you feel really full while its so easy to cook it.
I love how your face in the end is like 'yeah oke that fair, I'll eat.'

Mayonnaise is usually put in the other summer staple "rice salad" (same ingredients but with white rice as a base) but I found it in pasta salad as well in some places. Are you sure you're Italian?
