- UK TV presenter Phillip Schofield has confirmed he had an affair with a younger male ITV employee while he was still married.
In a statement to the Daily Mail newspaper, Schofield apologised for lying to his colleagues and the media, and said his relationship with the young employee, who the BBC is not naming, was "unwise but not illegal".
The 61-year-old left his role as a host on This Morning last week reports of a rift with co-star Holly Willoughby.

When he came out in 2020, ITV treated him like a brave hero. Most people knew there was an underlying reason why he decided to come out back then and this story was circulating then. Why it’s taken three years to come out is typical; big media companies will protect their top assets until they no longer need them.

There's also the fact that not many people want to be around someone known for "snitching" even if they haven't done anything wrong. This is especially the case when it comes to people in the public eye. I literally can't think of a single person who's spoken out and continued to work.
Plus the prerequisite for being a "messenger of justice" is either having enough capital, whether that be in the form of money, power or a combination of the two, or playing an indispensable role in your organization. Otherwise you're not a "messenger of justice" but cannon fodder.

The fact that we all knew this the moment he came out as gay, we knew of the boy in question, Phillip even went on Lorraine (I remember) and stated “I don’t even recognise the individual in question” and I thought, “even I have seen the boy’s face on live TV before!”. I’ve always found the legal age of consent to be an issue. While I agree 16 year olds can consent, there should be an age limit of those they can consent to. No one over the age of 18 has any business being with a 16 year old and no one with morals would ever even dream of being with someone that young. There is a huge difference in the mentality of 16 year olds vs over 18s. It should not be legal as too many sick perverts hide behind the fact that it is and too many girls end up in abusive relationships with older men and even trafficked by them as they are too young and inexperienced to recognise the signs. The law needs to change!

Unfortunately, whilst I agree with the sentiments, it is very hard in a free society to set a ceiling as an antipodal position to the base notion of consent. Similarly, and I know it’s less vehemently important, but things like voting age and driving age can’t have blanket restrictions and ceilings imposed on them. Its case by case. It’s why consent can only really ever be based upon a minimum age only.
I agree with you on the capacity to be aware at young ages though - I’m 31, in my mind a 16 year old is a child, and they are in every other aspect of the law. Now, have I had 18 year olds after me sometimes? Yes. Because I’m older, well put together, don’t look bad, it seems attractive at that age, it seems rebellious. An 18 year old girl can easily find a Chris Hemsworth attractive (along with everyone else, extreme example I know), but he’s by all accounts still a middle aged man now. Does the onus fall on him to say no to advances? Yes. That’s where Schofield was outright wrong. Grooming from before the age of legal consent and waiting. It’s the influence and power they yield.
The concept of the ‘older man’ when they’re debonair and attractive won’t ever go away. But, it’s on THEM to say… sorry, you’re too young, it’s not my thing, move on.
Even a 21 year old seems a child to me now.. and not that long ago I was that age! But, all this can fall on is conduct by adults being appropriate. It’s a moral question. And can’t be legislated upwards. Who says what that ideal range is to cut off and make illegal? How do you quantify it? Unfortunately, if two people are attracted to one another, and both of legal age, the moral judgment comes from society when we deem the gap to be too big. But, we see 30 year old playboy bunnies frolicking with a 70 year old Hefner and don’t bat an eyelid. They are groomed.. just in a different way, usually materially and fiscally. It’s not right, but both parties are aware of what it is.
The real issue is Schofield meeting this boy as a preteen. There’s a strong case there.
So should a 50 year old be allowed to have a relationship with a 25 year old? They are both legally consenting adults.
But having said that a 16 year old is still a child in the eyes of the law. Maybes the age of consent laws need to be looked at again. Either the age of consent needs to be moved to 18 or we make 16 the age someone becomes an adult. 18 is only a number we picked to be the age you become an adult. There is no science behind it.

Phillip Schofield is an adult man who entered into an inappropriate relationship knowing full well that it was an affair and raised questions about his integrity. All the lies and betrayal, especially to his wife and family, is irreparable damage. An apology is worthless unless there is immediate action to back it up and a change in behaviour so that something similar doesn't happen again.

I hope the police etc are looking at this whole story and will investigate fully. I feel so sorry for his wife and daughters. I hope if he is found guilty of any wrong doing he faces the full weight of the law and NEVER, EVER returns to our TV screens.

If it was a 30 yr old man from the local Tesco he'd had the affair with, I don't think many people would care at all.
His brother was just recently jailed for abusing young boys, and claimed that Phil knew all about it. Phil denies it, but here's Phil having sex with a young lad he knew since the lad was 10 or 11, got him a job in the same workplace where Phil is the star... so there is suspicion as to whether or not it was really consensual , and whether it only started once the kid hit legal age.

A groomer grooms everyone around them making it possible for them to enact their crime and get away with it for so long.
And in some peoples eyes it makes them doubt their guilt.

A person in a 'position of power' is anyone that has an imbalance of power and control over you. It could be your boss, a celebrity, your teacher, head of a community, your mum or dad etc etc.
Those thinking about making some 'noise' are often fearful of repercussions and stay silent about it but then become complicit in their silence.
Those that make the 'noise' often feel the repercussions. No promotion. Get sacked. Get cancelled. Get ignored.

I knew it! Philip had accusations against him a few years before his brother arrest it was when he out as gay, my Mom was wondering why he came out she thought somebody who he had a relationship with or the journalist were going to out him, I personally thought he felt it was the time to come out of the closet because he felt being gay was going to effect his career early on and that wouldn’t be accepted or something like that but then I read a lot online comments about the young man he had a “relationship” with that people are saying that he groomed since he was a child (their even a picture of Philip at this young man school when he was a child along with other children the children faces are blurred out.) Their was even a video of this young man interviewing Philip asking what they’re “going to get up to?” To which Philip replied “Hopefully I would still be getting away with it.”
