When my life is close to ending, I will remember I was alive at a time when the music and those who wrote and played it contributed as much to this life as any teacher, parent or friend. I would likely have never survived my adolescence had I not had the likes of Graham Nash and the rest of CSNY, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Carole King, the incomparable Joni Mitchell and so many other artists and writers whose music, poetry and artistry made a lonely, struggling boy’s life worth hanging on for in the early 1970s. I grow older as they do and I mourn the waning of their days and a time when music meant as much to me as breath.
Very well said, I completely agree with you! Being a teenager in the late 60s and early 70s was very much Both bitter and sweet... And the music with those incredible artists Carried you through.❤
Eh. I mean I know such comments make for grand and dramatic fodder down here under the videos, but just ugh almighty. I am a singer songwriter. No one has lived and breathed music as much as I did for a couple decades. But in the end I would have survived without it, and you would have too. Ultimately music and your emotions can't save you. If you're looking to that as your greatest meaning at death, I worry you'll be gravely disappointed in the next life.
im not buying it. first and foremost, he butchered it. secondly he butchered it. He should havesent her a letter in the post it would have been easier on all of us.
One of the greats. I am so lucky to have him and all the many others, Neil Young, Paul Simon, John Prine, Gordon Lightfoot, et al, as the soundtrack to my life.
Music is a universal language. That's what makes it so powerful and internal. It's about Graham? It's about Leonard? It's about Joni? Hell no. It's about me It's about you. It's about an emotion that we all share Sigh..
Wow. Graham Nash must be about 80. He’s aged really REALLY well. Still can sing like a champ and he even took that song in a high key! Legend. Cool to hear him sing the classic heartbreaker that Joni wrote about him. Treasures, both of them.
@@Thundergod- thanks for the info, I figured it was written for either Graham or James, good to know which one. That album is indeed a masterpiece. The duets Joni and James together did for BBC are great, too.
@@baizhanghuaihai2298 No problem. Joni had a complicated personal life back then but geniuses are often complex in their relationships. She also had a thing with David Crosby RIP for about a year in the late '60s so she was quite busy....

It’s great that some commenting here can see the love in that performance by Graham Nash, instead of seeing it as a mistake by him. Joni looked as though she appreciated it, anyway. It was truly heartfelt. I don’t suppose there’s anyone who’s seen this (and the other performances that evening, which were very good) and not been prepared to swap all of it for a fresh Joni performance, but we take what we can get. The lady is a bonafide genius and an utterly outstanding performer of all she wrote. No-one during her lifetime has been her equal, though I loved many of them anyway.
Graham so incredibly gorgeous~ how you can sing back a part of your life so flawlessly as she's sitting in front of you. Not a dry eye here and neither with "Our House". 😢
Even with the mistake it is still a beautiful performance by someone 81 years old and someone who obviously never got over losing her and never stopped loving her. Time waits for no one.
Such wonderful song of love.. such wonderful songwriter Joni is.. such a wonderful artist Graham is… and such a wonderful guitarist Shane dear friend, wonderful to see you with such brilliant companions.. bless you all! ❤🙏🎶🎸✨
We all have that someone that we may move on from and find love with another or others, but quite ever get over a last love. I think that’s the case with him and Joni.
I watched the whole event and cried through it all. Powerful emotions for many reasons I can't begin to list. Joni's music and art touched my life for the past 50 years...
astonishing… one of the best covers of this tune ever. Graham does a great job performing the song. If I heard this w/o ever having heard Joni’s original, I wd love it. The harmonica is gorgeous. And then the twist when he says YOU are a lonely painter. Wow! He reminds us that 50 years ago this song might well have been written abt him. That’s crazy. So intimate. Perfectly sung and played!!! ❤
@@johnanderson8096 Haha. I don't think HE would define it as a 'Beautiful Performance!!!!!!' I didn't say he butchered the whole song, just that line. I was responding to the previous comment "Perfectly sung and played!!! " Don't be such a snowflake.
Absolutely amazing and at the same time heartbreaking. I am in tears and I can't stop crying. I don't think anyone can sing a song as passionately has Graham Nash.
@GussMozart big difference there. Annie Lennox was never in a relationship with Joni Mitchell. Graham & Joni's love affair, from back in the day, is what makes Nash's performance the highlight of the night. The song he sang was written about him!
I've never been a big fan of Graham Nash, but this may be the best thing I've ever heard him do -- and his version of this song has become my favorite (sorry Joni).

When an old lover brings it back home. omg
I believe Nash was the love of Joni Mitchell's life. They never got over eachother. Its a real thing. I know. I feel it every day. And yet.....
Graham's moving tribute to his old but never forgotten love. Together with Dylan Joni is the the greatest songwriter of our time
What a heartfelt, beautiful tribute to Joni Mitchell from Graham Nash.
