Crabbok I love your videos! I do have to add some comments however for those of us who have incomplete fleets. Unless you are on the AMG tourney circuit 3d prints are already a must at this point, it's not really a case of eventually. There are a ton of units that aren't available already or where the scalpers are charging 4 to 5 times the MSRP of the unit. It's easy to say 'eventually' if you already have you fleets flushed out. If you are still in a building up the fleet phase of the hobby there is no other reasonable choice, local tournaments, stores, and pickup games are just going to have to accept 3d prints now if they want maximum participation and not gate keep the game.
I'd say, reach out to your local community for tournaments. Personally, whenever I'm running or participating in Armada tournaments, I always make sure that any new players in the area are aware they can borrow my ships and squads for a day if I'm there. I'm sure there may be people where you are playing that will loan out ships
While I'm speaking in regards to AMG's GT's and Worlds... I would wager that your Local Tournament Organizers will allow 3d printed stuff within reason.
@@Crabbok Maybe they cut production to also try to limit participation in Worlds, then tell the higher ups that people aren't going to Worlds over the coming years when in fact people can't even but into the game
The Ion Radio press release is the most significant news since Adepticon publicly committed to supporting Armada after Worlds '25. Best wishes to everyone involved.

Also, I think a home brewed separate faction is a great idea! Also helps build a safe place to create and fail while not impacting the main game. Lots of trial and error expected.

I do not think stock is reasonable accessible anymore.
That being said, I understand a year of competitive support is a privilege.
I think a reasonable middle ground would be to encourage local gamestores to allow proxy content. New players may not be able to join the next worlds but if they have a weekly home that can hold there interest until post 2025 worlds.
A good step might be to provide protocol/guide on how to manage proxy content to keep it from getting messy. As i’m sure many stores will avoid engaging with it out of fear of how messy it can get without oversight.
I literally had to buy Imperial Squadrons 2 when I was on a different continent (am from Poland, found one dusty box at a back of a shelf in Arizona).
Just crazy to me that there isn’t a fully supported Star Wars ships game anymore. Gotta believe there’s a market for it and eventually a new game will come in. Doubtful it’ll be AMG that gets it.
Armada was the first tabletop game I actually ever participated in at the competitive level. It's such an awesome game
My friend is interested in starting armada. We have 3d printers and will be printing ships he enjoys playing to build his collection.
This game has another 4 years worth of errata changes and price changes. Without adding a single new thing you could absolutely keep the community alive. But man I can't wait to see a agreed-upon homebrew community. I want my Dreadnought!
With their announcement that they’ve ceased development on Armada I don’t think we’ll receive anything final. That said I have faith in the community.

There is a large group of people in my local area that play "dead" games all the time. We play Warmachine/Hordes V3, Warhammer Fantasy 8th Ed, 40K 7th Edition, and now adding in X-Wing and Armada to that list. There are even a smaller group of us that play SW Destiny! It is easy to keep a game alive if you find a group of people who love that game!
Now that the community is organizing and preparing, I feel more hopeful about Armada than before
Community based stuff is always superior to company based stuff.
Companies are really out of touch with what their customers want.
Look forward to a good balanced approach to continued management of the game. Just a note: it will be more than just 3D that will need to be allowed. Base card and ship cards will need to be photocopied/printed, or done other list system will be needed. Unlike some other unsupported mini games, FFG/AMG games are cardboard and card heavy. The community will need to be comfortable with 3D prints AND home printed ship/upgrade cards. That may be a challenge for some

Due to budget (and space) reasons I only played X-Wing but I grabbed a few models here and there (mainly ISDs) to put on my desk because they just look so damn cool.
I´ve recently tried to get into Armada but I honestly couldn´t find most ships in stock anywhere. Now with the announcement that the game is EOL almost everything is gone and some shops only have a handfull of unimportant ships in stock for ridiculous prices.
The sky isn't falling; it's actually quite open to possibilities. Excited to see what comes from people actually interested in the game.
There is NO stock out there!! Thats the Problem! Maybe the US as a big country has not so big problems but in Germany for example nearly all fantasy shops have pushed Armada out of the shop 2-3 years ago because they had always trouble ordering new stuff from AMG... nearly all capital ships where sold out during Corona and never refilled.... some online shops had a limited amount of them but I only managed to get 1 Venator since 2020... my only one... always wanted more but they where never online... have "mail me if in stock" setting on all bigger online shops... nothing... and today... even Amazone is 99% sold out... a single Liberty costs you 200+... most other bigs ships are not available at all... people like me who love Armada but just started 5 years ago will now never complete their colections... or have to spend a LOT at ebay... that will kill the Game here in Europe long before next year... we just CAN´T play if there are no ships to buy... or are at least limited to what we have...
Scalpers are buying it all up, because they know gamers are stupid enough to pay scalpers' prices.

Exactly what you said near the end, if people keep playing I would not be surprised at all to see the game picked up again.
Beyond the game just being really good, it just seems like such a successful and profitable idea… people like STAR WARS they are going to want to have fights in SPACE! Like someone has to pick these games back up at somepoint…
But until then the most important thing is to continue playing and enjoying armada+xwing and showing others why it’s awesome!!
I've been a part of many games that have just faded away. Jyhad. Mechwarrior: Dark Age, etc etc. There's an arc to a game's popularity that has to intersect with it's marketability/profit. Armada is not profitable given the current economic conditions of the world. Had they moved to a paint-your-own model or just a quick dip in ink to bring out details the game may have survived.
Its crazy trying to get stuff for Armada now. I just got an X-wing scum faction really cheap with a Croc and 40 ships. But Armada is going crazy right now, i am seeing gladiators and light cruisers going for a hundred and star destroyers going for 200+. Even Victories are going for 35-50 when I was able to get some when I started the game for 10$ used.
Would it be possible to do a video on how to get going in Armada now? I used to play way back in the day but only had a few ships. I would like to get more but just have no idea where to start.

@@Crabboksorry but I have to disagree. I love the videos, but you can’t claim they’re valid when the products you tell people to buy in them aren’t available first hand anymore. People will need help figuring out which 3D print sellers to use, which card makers to use, etf

Great video! I 100% agree with the sentiment to wait for the definite end of any official support to get into homebrew stuff. However it might be a little more complicated than I would like it to. In Switzerland, we are a fairly young community, we started around the time when AMG took over Armada. We motivated and pushed people to get into the game despite no release, and we grew a sizeable community where we're able to host a GT, which is amazing to me. But now that it is known fur sure that no new official content will be released, it is quite a challenge to motivate people to keep playing if we do not consider homebew stuff. Most people are used to the constant releases of other games, and if I close the door to homebrew, I'm afraid to see the community fizzle out, and I suspect our community is not the only one.
There is enough homebrew stuff out there for us not to start another one. However the amount of content is most probably too big to have been properly tested, so I am against using any of it for now, but I see that the community still needs new stuff. For upgrades and unique squadrons, there is no real way to "automatically" value the cost in point of an effect, but for ships (without ignition or SSD) and generic squadrons, it is much easier to check if anything is below or above the official content. Our community is lucky to have some engineers, and we are working on different codes that, when finished and validated, could verify if homebrew content (for regular ships and generic squadrons) is within the boundaries of official stuff or not.
I am reluctant to bring changes to the official game, in point adjustements or card effect modification. In my opinion, this is the base we are working with, and we build ontop of it, but it's just an opinion. However, there are (limited) ways to be able to verify some of the stuff out there, and I would encourage all TO's to listen to their community, even though they might themselves have the opposite opinion (my situation exactly). And then, we'll see if there is any one group that is regarded as the reference for the future, which I really hope. And if the swiss community can join the effort in any way, we would be glad to do so with all that we have to offer.
I can't say these are balanced in any way, but I have seen some home-brewed Chiss ships on Kurt Drive Yards. They have a lot of community-made custom ships from cannons and legends to Halo and WW2 ships. Figure I'll mention it since you mentioned it near the end. Glad to hear the community is coming to gather to support the game in the future though it will be difficult for new players to enter for sure.
Check out Earthbone games podcast 55. They discuss Armada and X-Wing, as some of the game’s designers worked on those Star Wars games while they were at FFG. They said that the content AMG released was stuff that they were working on at FFG before the handover.
One thing I’d love is if someone could create and share stl’s of the stands and the slots on the bottom of the ships (or point me to them), so the armada ruleset could be more easily adapted for ships from other IPs. I’d love to make rules for 40k ships in armada
In my LGS one of the guys i played with did just a slight bump to 450 in our games made things interesting

The thing that annoys me is the people that are going into stores and buying everything in one purchase. Just for the sake of having it with no intention of using it.
I hope it comes back, I was just about to get into it. I was literally about to buy the core set, but now the cool ships I want are not available. Maybe one day😢

i still don't understand why they cancelled the game blaming the cost of pre-painted models when really they could sell them as bare plastic and give people a list of paints to use
This is good news for potential new players and existing ones. Unfortunately for me I have to get out of the game.
I could really see a shipless game being supported fairly easy. Models get removed from time to time anyway.
I'm glad many are considering IP and who owns the rites to the game material.
Staying true to the AMG IP Policy and being respectful of the IP holder is a key component of everything we do at ION Radio.

I love your optimism about AMG picking up armada again. I have to say probably a 0 percent chance for armada. They haven't touched it in 3 years.

I'm only saying it's a slight chance. Regardless the community will work together to ensure continued support for the future.
Granted, I'm only 3 minutes into video and relatively new player. As a new player, the issue is availability vs. secondary market.
I love CiS so I jumped into game with them. They are most unsupported in terms of ships, and now they are definitely not getting anything with current news. That is ny biggest takeaway and issue.

On one hand I support ION Radio in their effort to keep up with the organized play. On the other hand I feel like the community should just not participate in official organized play. AMG really did us dirty by letting Armada go out the way it did and I don't think they deserve our support in any capacity any longer 😕
Other than it taking longer to play, I've always thought 600 pts should be the norm

Who cares about the lingering organised play? Better to start moving forward and work towards a consistent community ruleset now that it's clear AMG is irrelevant.

I do want to throw minor shade at support for Shatterpoint and MCP: don't reward companies that murder viable games. We hates AMG! We hates it FOREVER!
Whatever ruleset, additions or mods that you back Crabbok, I myself will take as gospel. I wouldn't hold my breath on AMG releasing any new updates on Armada. They probably washed their hands on Armada and X-Wing also.

Check price in EU. Many shops have "preorder" option, some selling at incredible low price some rise price 2-3 times up. Many not understand that is end of production. Chaos they sell than send wrong items, other take money and not sell and return money because can't get items from place where they taking items...
