People keep saying that fight was tough by accident... how could they hear that line and still think that? That was so obviously the devs taking the piss.
One of these days I want to go up to the Tales studio and just interview whoever thought up the Gattsuo fight, and just ask "Why?" Why in the world is an unimportant fight against a generic giant wolf SO difficult compared to everything up to that point?
He was the boss from the gameplay demo, and they didn’t change his stats and behaviors until later ports. Meaning that if you played the initial 360 release version, you were fighting a Gattsuo with cranked up stats that were accidentally left in!
I recall that in the original 360 version, all you needed were karol set to nice aid smash over n over n over, then repede, yuri, rita on all out dps, its a surprisingly easy fight provided you just ignore estelle completely once karol get nice aid smash and becomes a paladin, seriously, get rid of her! Shes purely there to cast first aid and recovery outside combat 😂

After all these years it's so good to hear this boss battle theme again in Vesperia Definitive Edition, which is imo still the best boss battle theme music genius Motoi Sakuraba has written💜I love Tales of Vesperia and its cast so much and damn did I miss this game since my X360 died years ago, so good to finally have access to all the extra PS3 content

Combat is super solid and the cast of characters is among the best in the series. Yuri Lowell is definitely one of the best protags hands down. I agree with the fans in that regard. I'm usually hesitant about heeding this fandoms opinions because this is the same fandom who thinks Abyss has the best story (I hated Abyss' story telling amongst a lot of other things) but in Vesperia' s case? The praise is warranted. Surprisingly enough, Symphonia is my favorite as well. Eternia being my #2 and Xillia being my #3. I feel that even though Symphonia's story may not be the most "deep" or "unique" it has the most charm. The cast is still one of my favorites, the soundtrack is one of the best in the series and overall it's just the best aged Tales game to date.
I know how you feel since I also played this game back on the 360 and was kind of pissed off when the PS3 version was kept in Japan only! I wanted to buy this game when it first came out but I got delayed by other things , such as getting a switch so I could buy Fire Emblem three houses LOL, I was happy to see it was on sale near the end of July so I bought it and currently enjoying Baxter content and well replaying this game again because honestly as much as I love Berseria I was never too much of a fan of that type of gameplay, especially when it comes down to weapons and equipment being like loot. Hope arise is like a combination of both type of games those like Vesperia and Xilla AND Berseria! But without the samey loot trash ( that's the one thing I didn't like because it kind of killed the uniqueness of your weapons and equipment when I'm getting 10 of the same damn thing but they only have slight differences to each other. I prefer how Vesperia did weapons skill learning and equipment, hopefully Arise will bring that type of system back!)
Gattuso was the first thing that really gave me trouble, after getting used to the controls of course..... First time I went up against him, I was barely Lvl 12. *intense sobbing*

This is my second tales game (after the 3DS version of Abyss), and as soon as I heard this, I knew I’m gonna really like this game. Motoi Sakuraba is becoming one of my favorite composers.
Thank god for the Rita costume Cheria can get in Tales of Graces, I love going through the last dungeon with this music for the battle theme, way better than the normal battle theme.
my friend was saying the same... Definitive Edition, i was fighting it at level 16, he used all the free lvl packs and fought it at around level 40......
@CollapseJazz I agree, but still think it's too steep. Too quick, especially the attacks, and too powerful. Undine from Symphonia is a better example of that. lrn2magicguard or get fucked, and she's not the second boss in the game so it comes off more like you're doing something wrong instead of just being cheap.
I can see in my mind that Estelle, Yuri, Karol and Repede are runnig circles around and around of the moster. :D Some monsters were so damn hard so runnig was the best tactic. :D

Gattsuo...Gattsuo Gattsuo......I can never beat him in the games Demo on Xbox... Estelle never uses any healing artes when I need it. and Rita keeps casting lower level spells. to top it off, I dunno how to use OverLimit. -_- I still want the actual game though.
just had epic fight with nan and her sidekick on mt tenza with this tune on unknown, I thought I had fight won when I took one of them down with only nan left then she used a mystic arte and karol had to heal me rely no his steel defense to hold out. then she revived tison and I was almost dead many times before coming back for the win 7mins fight, also this was without 10x exp and remembered synth so I didnt have lvl4 limit breaks and not all skills.
Demous the Abyss That's not quite true. The secret mission gives you a splendid edge and having the best armor and weapons available at that stage makes constant grinding almost obsolete. It's a lesson I learned recently.
LordLukste Lol I just mashed Severing Fang Destruction Field and Ghost Wolf and somehow won. I heard that fight was awful but Gatsuo was absolute aids to fight 😣

Gatuzzo wasn't hard... just saying... Alexei on higher difficulties was hard, Duke's alternate form on the higher difficulties was hard... Gatuzzo on Unknown was a moderate challenge...
marklenthecool The issue with him wasn't his difficulty as an enemy, it was just the level jump. Once you know his strategies, his attacks can be avoided, but if you didn't level grind, his advantage in level can be dangerous.
I couldnt skip a battle since i seen what happens when abilties have high usage get upgrades but even then i had trouble. :s playing rita didnt help lol squishy af and targeted 24/7
Gatusso isn't all that hard people; he's a Level check, which means some of you have been skipping too many battles, which makes me question why some of you are even playing and RPG, those of you who have also been saying he's not hard; looks like you're not lazy. :)

I didn't say he's an easy boss, but he's also not quite what people say, he's the games first challenge but he's not quite as rough as some people make him out to be, you just have to take the boss seriously and there are a lot of people who get into the bad habbit of dodging battles.
I think it's more the fact of where he's placed and the fact he basically comes out of nowhere so you really aren't prepared. That's what I think the issue is more than his inherent difficulty.

Duce Belius was challenging yes but I had a MUCH harder time with Gatsuo. You have absolutely 0 way to have a decent advantage without grinding.

A boss that's just a sudden difficulty spike, so it's always a bit of a bitch. Also, YOU MUST PLAY VESPERIA. Trust me, you'll love it.
