Koji had great touch! And he played a true defender style, chopping everything down. But I have to give Joo the nod. The offensive mix up is more effective and he came 2nd in a world championship! Unfortunately I don't think we'll see anyone play like Koji effectively at such a high level any time soon.
Matsushita is definitely the most entertaining defender, but his best ever world ranking was around 20. Joo is thus more successful in the sense of career.
It's really hard to compare the two. First of all Koji played in the 38mm ball era which is faster and spinnier than 40mm. Second he is a classic defenssive player vs to Joo modern style chop/agressive fh counter.
Not even close. I have tons of respect for Matsushita but to call Joo a little boy is completely wrong. Matsushita is the best classic style defender ever and Joo is the best Modern style defender ever.
some players attack with heavy topspin ..deffenders use heavy backspin. counterlooping topspins is so easy but lifting heavy chop with topspin is the real challenge
+majestytd what I wanted to say is that heavy chops might be considered as defenders' attacking shots. if a stroke cause your opponents difficulties and win points it is offensive no matter the ball rotates forward or backwards :)
Everytime I see Matsushita's tricks and skills, and I feel like this is what the fun begins !!! He very much like Jackie chen, (of course his own sport, and films).....D Great defender !!!
chopping is offense. the same as top spin- the aim is that your spin will mess up their return- the only dif is messing them by making them return long or into the net. blocks are defensive. The idea of true defense is not force a mistake but rather , just wait for a mistake to happen
omg this is so wrong..blocks are usually used when there's no time to play a drive. so it is kinda neutral strike, more dependent on player style, so can be used offensively or defensively. Same for chops, but these are moreover defensive (slow speed?). There is of course the angle of looking that spin = offensive, but then u would have to say all strikes in modern tt are offensive (all of them have some amount of spin) which destroys the purpose to at least somewhat classify styles of play. so pls don't write bs like that on the internet, messing people's minds up ;)
i might be wrong but i always had a thought he played smooth rubbers on both sides, again i might be wrong...ive seen him play once and he was using smooth...but again i dont know well his career equipment...
believe it or not they are both diferent players...one is a classical defender koji' of course and joo is the modern type...38mm ball and 40mm...koji was a smooth rubber on both sides and joo carries pimples...they are both great tho...
it´s just a joke I respect really a lot Joo just to remember that when Joo was a kid he liked Matsushita´s style the same way someone does now with Joo and will be famous and maybe the best defender in the future, both are masters but each one at his time.
Koji Matsushita is the number 1 greatest Defender in the history of table tennis. (Y) no one can ignore that, and we can't also deny that Joo Se Hyuk is one of the great defender in table tennis nowadays but the funny thing here is? no offence, but Joo Se Hyuk can't even turn around while chopping the ball and bring back to the table.
Difficile à dire... Les deux auront marqué l'histoire du tennis de table. Les deux ont une capacité d'attaque : coup droit ET revers étonnante ! (à la différence d'un Evgueni CHTCHETININE par exemple)
Who said defenders are boring and bad for game ? bull. !! If anything they enhance game with variety and decent rallies rather than the short killing shots ending point too early.....
1:46 I love it when Matsushita sometimes hops up like he was just about to step into a big pile of shit but noticed it at the last moment.
Joo is the best
Koji had great touch! And he played a true defender style, chopping everything down. But I have to give Joo the nod. The offensive mix up is more effective and he came 2nd in a world championship! Joo is obviously the best
im glad the video didnt turn out to be a slide show of pictures
Great video !!! Two great defender !!!
i see two players
where is the vs. part?
Joo is more technic and efficient but Koji is "funkier than a mosquito"
Matsushita is definitely the most entertaining defender, but his best ever world ranking was around 20. Joo is thus more successful in the sense of career.
yes I don't recall Koji playing with pips either, especially not long.
Thank you for this excellent reply. I agree.
It's really hard to compare the two. First of all Koji played in the 38mm ball era which is faster and spinnier than 40mm. Second he is a classic defenssive player vs to Joo modern style chop/agressive fh counter.
Koji has some really impressive legs, like a professional badminton players. Those calves really allow him to pull of some agile footwork.
Both are amazing
Not even close. I have tons of respect for Matsushita but to call Joo a little boy is completely wrong. Matsushita is the best classic style defender ever and Joo is the best Modern style defender ever.

:-)
That means you don't loop hard enough. More training for you.
Can you beat Joo? If not you dont loop hard enough 😂more training 4 you! ;)
+majestytd REKT

I've never watched Table tenis but now I will
Matsushita is a little more animated and fun to watch but they're both so awesome!!
there are lots of matches, Hou Yingchao just played Gionis Panagiotis in this weeks ECL. It's quite an odd match! :)
Everytime I see Matsushita's tricks and skills, and I feel like this is what the fun begins !!! He very much like Jackie chen, (of course his own sport, and films).....D Great defender !!!

it's a comparison of two players A v. B, sorry if you think that's misleading that's just what I called it.
you see how fast matsushita spins his racket? AMAZING !
Koji is a great defender, the only player that could make him look silly was Waldner
wait actually apparently he was using Feint Long III. Odd!
Nice video as usual :) Matsushita was so beeast
I always thought that too ;)
His style is more technic difficult because it combines both attack and defence.
But personally i think matsushita is more intertaining to watch
i might be wrong but i always had a thought he played smooth rubbers on both sides, again i might be wrong...ive seen him play once and he was using smooth...but again i dont know well his career equipment...
disculpa una pregunta .. tienes idea de cual es la madera y cuales son las gomas del jugador Koji Matsushita ??
I want see a match with any two defenders. Is somewhere match with each other??
believe it or not they are both diferent players...one is a classical defender koji' of course and joo is the modern type...38mm ball and 40mm...koji was a smooth rubber on both sides and joo carries pimples...they are both great tho...
Should watch video of Waldner toying with and destroying Matsushita
They are both so funny!
Matsushita looks like he is having fun :)
wow. I see Joo se Hyuk learned from the best :D
Defending wise, they're both excellent. What gives Joo the edge is that he counter attacks more, but Matsushita is so entertaining to watch :)
it´s just a joke I respect really a lot Joo just to remember that when Joo was a kid he liked Matsushita´s style the same way someone does now with Joo and will be famous and maybe the best defender in the future, both are masters but each one at his time.

He don't need to, he is more stable.
i would say matsuchita because of the 360 rotate shot
Koji has a niceful style but i still prefer Joo. In fact, both has their own skills.
they are both good Koji is a great defender and joo too
koji had long pips on the bh as well.
swear to god it looks like matsushita is chopping with his own hand :O great player :-bd
Koji definitely used pimples for most of his career. If you want one of the last great double inverted choppers, look into Norio Takashima.
Joo: I´m the master of Table Tennis Deffense
Koji: Welcome to my Kingdom little boy
Matsuchita it´s simply amazing :D°!
good match
no he had smooth rubbers..i dont believe koji ever played with pimples..
what a fucking ninja...
Difficile à dire... Les deux auront marqué l'histoire du tennis de table.
Les deux ont une capacité d'attaque : coup droit ET revers étonnante !
(à la différence d'un Evgueni CHTCHETININE par exemple)
your title of the video is misleading
koji's forehand chop look so spinny and better compared to joo's
I AM A DEFENDER!!!!
Nice trick with the video title. Put v. instead of vs.
What trick? V and VS same thing...
Joo Greatest Defender of All Time
what is song name?
+barış mutlu We will rock you - by Queen
Who said defenders are boring and bad for game ? bull. !! If anything they enhance game with variety and decent rallies rather than the short killing shots ending point too early.....
I wouldn't say that Joo is more technic ;D
Some of the best of Joo aren't in this video...
He was amazing versus Kong

Woooa.... nice (Y)
matsushita is undefeatable
Thumbs up if you cannot make a choice like me ;)
He is not even trying hahaha...
damn i hate those extreme defense players..
Bullshit title - this is not 'vs', this is a comparison
try playing defensive
Matsu better a bit..#imo
うわwww
Watching defenders is kind of boring Lol. All the same sequence, defend until they do a crappy shot.
