    In 93 the flood in Northern Missouri took everything from the farms. What i witnessed was Farmers joining together to save each other from losing their homes and farms, watching the kingdoms fall. The media didn't cover this. American farmers feed America and our Government makes it harder and harder every year. God bless our farmers and God bless my Grandparents who farmed their whole lives. 💕

    I think that was the most amazing guitar solo I have ever heard. Not to technical or over the top, just restrained poetry.

      Yes, there is poetry in the pain and anguish coming from Joe's guitar.
      He gives it freedom to sing...and freedom to cry.

    There are very few songs that can actually move me to tears....this is one of them. John has this pain and heartache in his voice that pulls on your heart, while Joe does the same on lead... coupled with the subject matter of the song. And when they come out of the solo and harmonize with each other...its just pure magic. I'm blown away...period...end of story.

    • @M._Lou
      @M._Lou 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed. I’ve been watching and listening in depth to this performance over and over the last few days. Was moved to write 3 new comments. Just played the video for my husband, and then read my new comments to him. I could scarcely get through the readings, as I was so deeply moved. Voice wavered and eyes brimmed with tears. I empathize with the story and performance in a really deep way. John’s story and song, totally poignant…..Joe’s solo, a total reflection (and more) of that poignancy. And the drummer, Tal Bergman, leading into Joe’s solo....what can I say? Nothing short of phenomenal!

      Don’t listen to that roommate. There are many choices, but only one final answer. Don’t knock on that door. It will knock on all our doors soon enough. In the meantime, study the positive choices that lie before you. And know that people who matter will care. And for those people who don’t care, they don’t matter. Don’t listen to extraneous roommates.

    What a tale of dichotomy and transition in life. Rural and urban. Old and young. Paradise past. Tribulation today. Broken radio and broken dreams. And binding this whole cultural and generational phenomena together is what grandpa said, “It's always the last one in who's in a hurry, to try and slam the door in the next one's face.” .....Fierce cultural and territorial values which may not be totally exemplary, but are totally strong. About which, the wisdom of old age had given grandpa new insight…and to us, new questions. But the young have yet to learn. There is the painful demise of the old life, the old ways, which happens to each generation, but very acutely here. Acoustic and folk, electric and blues, a dichotomy of two styles. The wonderful miracle of this performance is how two contrasting music genres meld together to tell that cultural story, how these two genres harmonize, how they uplift one another, how the storytelling is vastly improved by the contribution of each, and how neither performance would be as great without the other. Reflecting just how important cooperation is to the understanding and essence of life. Both these musicians are master storytellers. The band, too. Thank you, John! Thank you, Joe! ❤

      Great analysis and summarisation. I didn’t put together the two different generes as part of the story, but I can see it. I felt the climax of the guitar solo brought out the frustration of the old with the younger generation. That is what is great about music. People may be moved in different ways!

    Awesome to see how Joe and John relate, with Hiatt's great song as the subject. Joe restrains, adds in the right place, and respects....great performance!

    This is by far my favorite John Hiatt song, and this is by far the greatest version of it. The way the song starts off so quiet and it just builds into this exploding guitar solo right out of Pink Floyd! nothing short of amazing.

    Haunting..........
    Powerful guitar solo and vocals, John's poetry especially. Very Cohen-esque…poignant, somewhat obscure meanings,
    And a prayer..…to whom, we cannot be sure, as God does not make errors…or does He???
    Bereft, alone...but not defeated.
    Outstanding performance!!!

    Wow...the original version of this was great, but then Joe steps up and transforms the song with his masterpiece of a solo, which puts the original solo in the shade(s)!! ....just wow!

    Still can’t believe that hiatt gets that high „down around my place“ at 5:34. this man was an Animal on microphone and guitar for 50 years now.
