- Hey Folks and lovers of the Gelli Arts, here I am showing you a comparison of acrylic paints and etching ink on the Gelli plate. I also combine both to get different effects. Quite a few lovely prints are the outcome.

What a knightly accolade, thank you Mark! You can also try the Charbonnel or the Caligo by Cranfield (relief or intaglio ink), but in comparison the Akua is actually cheaper, if you buy the 237 ml intaglio pot (don’t buy the liquid pigment, it doesn’t give me the same effects). Looking forward to seeing your results!…have a good trip home! 🙋🏻♀🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I use Akua, Calligo wash inks, and Speedball inks. None are oil products. I love the details provided by printing inks. I still use acrylics, but sometimes the only way to get detail is with a printing ink!
04:06 The roses & bones create the face of an adorable dog. Appropriate symbols too - the love & joy in their eyes is as beautiful as the roses & the overlap of the bones to create the nose & mouth/muzzle is perfect since they smell & taste bones with such relish.

Thanks for taking the time to share this. I am an experienced printmaker but just decided to play with some gelli plates. I was curious how akua colors would work because most people I’ve discovered use acrylic. I hadn’t thought of combining the two! Thanks!
Oh you are so welcome Mary! I can't believe that although I have a professional press since Christmas, I am so stuck with the Gelli that I can't start seriously with the press. I'd like to make a comparing video...🙏🏼🙋🏻♀️🎨
I’ve had a big press for about 35 years but I’ve really focused more on painting in the last 20 but Gellis are actually getting me thinking about the big press again and how I could use the gelli prints under collagraphs or collage into paintings. So many exciting things to still try! Gellis just give such immediate results it makes them addictive! “Press” on 😂

Really appreciate the comparisons you make! One note regarding clean-up of the Charbonnel Aqua wash inks - I am finding that they clean up just fine in water, and only at the end I might add some soap if I feel any grease build-up. It’s one of the reasons I fell in love with these inks, oil-based and easiest clean up ever!

I really enjoyed that and I have never seen that before. I loved it but looks very time consuming. I may try it once.

Wonderful! Is etching ink the same as block ink?
block ink is another word for relief ink, in contrast to the intaglio ink. Both are etching inks, I think Block ink is thinner than the intaglio ink, and intaglio is more viscous and usually oil based. That is why I use Akua intaglio often, which is soy based and therefore easier to clean up. I am not very experienced with relief ink, apart from lino ink, I should make a video about only that…thank you! 🙏🏽
