President Jackson II Classic CE MultiNorm CB radio. FM 'On The Air' test

After optimisation we managed to get 3.6W out of the UK legal MultiNorm multi-mode set. After servicing the AM & FM portions of this radio, Mr Chippie drove along out usual 6-mile 'difficult terrain for radio' test route to see how it performed. Apart from limited squelch hysteresis, the radio worked reasonably well. However, why it draws 3.5A on transmit to generate 3.6W doesn't impress me when UK FM radios 39 years ago could produce 4W for 1.2A consumption. So much for CPU's!
