  • 1959 Mid-Century by noted architect Hugh Kaptur, part of the Palm Springs School of Architecture, with contemporaries E. Stewart Williams, Donald Wexler, William Krisel, William Cody, and Albert Frey. Recipient of a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Fame and subject of the film, A Quiet Elegance. Kaptur’s portfolio includes more than 200 residential and commercial projects in the Coachella Valley, including the iconic Steve McQueen and William Holden residences in Southridge. This home has been fully renovated and updated in 2018 while preserving the context of the original architecture. Original details include clerestory windows and the stone façade. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths with expansive views of the San Jacinto mountains. New gourmet kitchen with Bosch appliances, quartz counters and backsplash, custom walnut cabinets, new baths, new HVAC, new electrical and plumbing, new roof, earthquake retrofitting, new salt water pool, spa, and fire pit, and professionally landscaped grounds. Special design features include polished concrete floors, a sleek gas fireplace, designer light fixtures and hardware, and LED recessed lighting. The indoor-outdoor open plan has walls of glass with new Milgard dual-pane windows, a two-car finished garage, a water filtration system and softener, and fully-owned Solar. Smart Home technology controls the AC, sprinklers, hot tub, lights, speakers, and cameras. Featured during Modernism Week by Atomic Ranch magazine, this tastefully renovated and updated home, has also been a very successful vacation rental.

"Taken down to the studs" - so it's a new house with a MCM exterior. :-( Looks just like heaps of the houses here in Australia.

Too bad they couldn't have kept the mid century kitchen and bathroom. All this "updating" only means it looks like any other contemporary California home interior.

More than likely, the cabinetry they replaced was not original. It's rare to find 60 year-old homes that haven't been renovated.

There's nothing worse than an outdated Mid-Century home with vintage finishes. A good number are absolutely cringe worthy.

Yes, or at least renovate with inspiration from the era it was built. It now looks like the new builds here in Australia. No hint to its origin

Please explain what is iconic about those clerestory windows. Thank you.

Could the pool connect to an emergency fire-preventive system that could douse their whole house and yard to keep a wildfire at bay?
