The new Nimbus Fish Hatchery fish ladder is operational. The Best time to see the chinook salmon running is in December and January at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery.

Wow..... incredibly fascinating process. Thank you for your efforts to document and explain all this. Big question here though.... it might seem trivial, lol. Has there been any research or thought into whether artificially fertilizing the eggs after both male and female fish have been dead. I'm sure it makes no difference but I'm just curious. The Japanese are pretty serious about ikejime which is a technique for immediately stopping rigormortis after the fish is caught - I'm just wondering is this something that has been looked at?

No effect if done within a short period of time. The are cells in organs of course, and they do require oxygen to exist. As for ikejime, thats nice for a single fish, it doesnt stop rigor fyi, but its labor intensive and you couldnt do that for hundreds to thousands a fish a day. All water is filtered and returned back to the American River.
