Good to see you back. Was worried we lost ya. My only advice for these long videos (which i prefer) is it plan the walks like Harald Baldr does. Open maps and plan a route to walk and what you want to show. Makes it less boring for you and cuts out the long sections where nothing is being said and shown. In regards to the beard I feel ya, once it gets that long it's gotta go. Itchy and always gets messy when eating
My family has lived here since 1975 when there was nothing but grass, not even electricity. So my childhood is here 😅, can't believe how it change its face like this
That was great walk through vid. One of them in each of the different district would be great. Buy me coffee would be a pleasure- hope to catch your next live to give you tips. Yo! -Lee
cheers man appreciate the thoughts for my family. fortunately the fires haven't reached the South Bay area but praying for all the families who have been affected
Great video, would be nice to see someone covering the more long term visa options for expats. After being there 7/8years I’m guessing you have a lot of experience in this area?
27:23 Quite possible it was the 80s, at least early 90s, it was known as (and still is) the BP Compound (British Petroleum) set up for the workers and their families in the petroleum industry back in the day.
There is a metro station in Thao Dien. The metro just opened in Dec.22. It's free to use for 1 month trial ( until Jan.22. You should try this brand new metro line. It's nice to see you back in HoChiMinh city.
Thao Dien is about the school’s for the foreign families that are living in Vietnam. That’s where you go to live if you have children who are going to school in Vietnam. Bentley didn’t do his research.
I want you to do a podcast about relationships in Vietnam. I am searching different countries on if you can develop lifelong relationships in expat countries or if they are only transitory
Funny you say it’s not really Vietnamese culture in D2. Yes obviously there are more ex pats, international schools, and non-Vietnamese restaurants there, but most of the people living and working there are Vietnamese. I’d say 98% aren’t foreign if you were to do a random headcount on the street. Maybe I’m wrong though. I like D2 a lot, and it is a great place to ease into HCMC for a foreigner. But I also agree that it’s not great for those of us wishing to embed into the culture through total cultural emersion & language acquisition.
Tôi là một cậu bé màu trắng… không, tôi năm mươi chin cậu bé màu trắng …anyway, I will admit that in the past, after spending time deep in a foreign country, American style pizza can be a treat. As a vegetarian, can’t do the Popeyes and BK…haha. I think the area might be nice for a small visit, sort of like a shopping mall for the American baby boomers and/or Gen X'er who are feeling the need for the familiar. Another good vid.
Do you like to have the same beard like Phuc Mâp's ? Phu My Hung is much better than Thao Diên . I used to live there for almost 18 years when my wife was still alive . Today I let my house to a Korean family and moved to Song Pha , a small town located between Dalat et Phan Rang where I am happier than in Saigon . But I am going down to PMH every 3 months to collect the rent from the Koreans . Will be in Saigon for Têt for 10 days then Châu Doc , Ha Tiên and Phu Quoc island for 1 week .
Thảo Điền /t'au dYEHn/, Not /t'au dEEUHn/ One syllable (syn- "together" + labánontas "taking" συν- + λαμβάνοντας, the ν drops out, μβ=b) made up of two vowel sounds (dis- + phthongoi δί + φθόγγοι, the s drops out, γγ=ng), but here the second vowel sound (phthong φθόγγος ) is stressed and the first vowel sound is reduced to a y, which is a resonant. The Đ is a consonantalized n, like the n of someone whose nose is stopped up and says something that sounds like, "My dose is stopped up."
Good to see you back Tyler. Shave it! 🪒 I’m a fan of Thao Dien myself just because I feel like the air is a little cleaner and it’s a little safer to go for a walk. But I’m totally good with staying in Binh Thanh and just taking a grab when I want to go over there.
I like this area. Sometime, I would just chill at a cafe and get work done in peace.
Happy New Year, Tyler! I hope the new year will bring you much happiness, success and good health!
thank you so much Chrissie! Health, happiness, and prosperity to you as well! Thank you for your continued support of the channel.

@@TheBureauAsia yep definitely
Are you a ginger Bentley?🤣 I like that there's less honking.
beard comes in ginger
Thanks. The area looks like a great place to get used to the city without being hit so hard with culture shock.
Great work once again Mr Bentley. The monstrosity is a dredge I believe. Looking forward to your upcoming vlog’s🇻🇳👍
ah yes...upon looking up what a dredge is, that seems to be what the monstrosity was...thank you!

go pro hero 9 black
@ thank you! Have a great day! Can’t wait to go back there again
Viet Nam is my favorite place and I have good friends there. If only I had a degree and not just a TEFL I would live and work in Vietnam
5 years of experience teaching makes up for not having a degree if I'm not mistaken
have a nice day
Thanks! You too!
The trafic there doesn’t look so heavy as the ones of other districts are.
@@tanaglisse very true
The perk of living far away from D1. I prefer it. Less chaotic

Haha, we drove past that palatial 7-11 today and said the same thing as you, looks pretty unusual!
lol glad I'm not the only one who thought that looked odd
