    I've never realized how horrible the Knicks as a franchise were until Bill contextualized it all. At least Sacramento, Orlando and to a lesser extent Minnesota have tried and succeeded over the past few decades in terms of making a winning team, and they're in small markets. The Knicks have completely nerfed the advantage of being the largest market in America and that's megatons of incompetence to do consistently over decades of time.

    • @teamdream3951
      @teamdream3951 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      chinmikhail I think it’s because money pours into the Knicks regardless if they are a bad team. What is their incentive to improve? They are in the biggest market, have their own TV network, always sell out of season tickets every year and have a passionate fan base. They have taken it for granted, it’s a shame because Knicks fans deserve better.

    • @TheMagnanimousMany

      @@teamdream3951 As a sports fan, that's heartbreaking. Not every native New York fan is rich and they spend a lot of income supporting their local team just for them to keep sending out a shitty product. It's like lacing Coca Cola with cyanide; they know you're still going to drink it anyways so why bother taking out the poison

    • @davemccrea9000
      @davemccrea9000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sacramento and Orlando and Minnesota have not really done any better than the Knicks over the past 3 decades, they're all about the same with Sacramento being the best slightly when they had Chris Webber and Peja but that was a lot of luck. Market size doesn't help you win so I don't know what you're talking about in that regard...........

    Since no one is talking about the Mavs, enjoy that while it lasts. Doncic is the real deal. Porzingis doesn’t even have to be that great in order to help the Mavs. All he has to do is be here to help the Mavs attract a 3rd star. Not to mention, Doncic will make the game easier for KP, which is something he never had in New York. If the Unicorn does stay healthy (and Christ it’s an ACL that’s nothing these days) then the Mavs are officially a problem for the next 10 years.
    This was a home run trade for the Mavs!!
    Fwiw, I don’t hate it for the Knicks either.

    Correction... Donnie Walsh wanted to wait until the summer to sign Carmelo. James Dolan got nervous about someone else signing him, so he overruled Walsh. It's also why he left, shortly after. James Dolan gave the Nuggets whatever they asked for. In a press conference, the Nuggets GM said, we saw Timofey Mosgoz play good for a few games and asked, hey how about adding that guy. It was nuts.

  • @Maxbeedo2

    As a Mavs fan, I'm scared by the trade. Getting rid of Matthews and Jordan makes sense, as they were both expiring and both seemed to be intentionally trying to make the Mavs lose (when everyone else was trying to win). I wanted to see Dallas actually go into a playoff series with an athletic point guard FOR ONCE though, given the Mavs history of getting torched by PGs, so giving up on DSJ hurts. Trading 2 unprotected 1st round picks also sucks, given that Porzingis is a huge gamble, but if it works out those picks won't be as good anyway. Hopefully Porzingis stays healthy and the Knicks get at least one great free agent to make it worth it.

    • @kathykelly5930
      @kathykelly5930 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      don't worry for a second, Dennis Smith is destined to be a bust, he's just an athletic score first guy who doesn't pass, isn't a leader and is not that efficient. I watched him at NC state a lot, his team didn't even make the tournament and they had like 5 mcdonald's all americans. He was a star point guard as a freshmen putting up huge numbers, and wasn't even a top 5 pick in a league that covits guards. He's a classic get his own numbers in blow outs type of guy. Porzingis is top 15 when healthy and hes only 23, you guys made out like bandits and Tim Hardaway is arguably the 2nd best player in the deal.

Different circumstances now, which is why I'm not "as" worried as that. The Mavs have been just as bad as the Knicks at signing premiere free agents since 2011, so if Porzingis isn't healthy, Hardaway, Lee and Burke won't be saving them and they won't be getting help from elsewhere. The Mavs can't afford a max player next year anyway because of Hardaway/Lee's contracts, which aren't expiring. Could all work out though, I'm open to being swayed towards optimism.

      @Pumpkin3.14pi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Bobbynufkn A hard cap means the team can not go above the cap for any reason. I'm not sure if it would help as much as people think for the small market teams. The intent of the soft cap in the NBA was to encourage star players to stay with the teams that drafted them. The problem is outside money from shoe deals and the players having all the power has caused that to be a non-factor anymore. A hard cap will help parity and the creation of super teams. What fans need to realize is that the NBA has had super teams for ever. The difference it used to be management making the right draft picks, trades, and free agent signings. Now the players create the super teams. I'm personally conflicted, because I hate what the league has turned in to, but I hate telling grown men that you can't live where you want and you can't go to the best companies like every other person in America has the freedom to do.

    You can ask for Tatum or Brown + other Celtics. They'll make one of Tatum and Brown available for you for KP

    You can knock Detroit's door they'll make Drummond available for you...

  • @cdhunter

    "This feels a lot like Tobias Harris and Boogie Cousins in NY... if it turns out to be something like that, that is DARK."
    WHY?? Who wouldn't want Tobias and Boogie over Porzingis? He's 23-years-old and has already spent a over year of his contract injured with a torn ACL. The Knicks weren't going to win when their two best players are a post-injury Porzingis and an inefficient Tim Hardaway Jr... I'm not saying the Knicks won or lost the trade-- but the sheer prospect that they can get two max-contract players AND a top 3 draft pick at least creates some optimism towards the future. Porzingis and Hardaway weren't going to get it done.

Mr. Stern was a strong leader that was not afraid to make not only the tough decisions but the unpopular decisions. In my opinion the association (this in particular) does not work well with weak leaders like Mr. Silver. It's out of control and It's sad for guys like me that enjoy, strong management, parity and true competition. Superior Alpha players like LBJ have taken advantage of the weak leadership displayed by Mr. Silver. The league is in trouble until a new commissioner is in office. Just an opinion.

      no way Butler goes, he wants to win now and not have to deal with a bunch of young guys which the knicks are going to have. Maybe if they win the lottery and get Zion, but I could see them drafting Ja Morant

    Kyrie hates Boston. He just released a movie about Rucker Park. It's going to be KD, Zion or Reddish and Kyrie, with DSJ, Knox and if Kristaps is not healthy then those Dallas picks can be lottery in the future. Kleinman wants to run the Knicks as the GM.

    Coming back to this on 1.07.2021 and all I have to say is yikes. Kristaps is far from what Mavs fans expected. Donnie is gone. Rick is gone. Haralabos Voulgaris aka the shadow GM is running a lot of stuff and it seems like lots of people inside the organisastion are against it.

    "Even if it's KD and Tobias Harris, I think people are going to be like "what the fuck is this?""... They can't be serious. What New Yorker wouldn't want KD and Tobias over a post-torn ACL Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr. and his terrible contract?? If getting rid of those two guys means you have a chance at KD and literally anyone else-- it was absolutely worth it.
    It's a huge risk, but players still want to be the King of New York. Any player(s) who takes the Knicks deep into the playoffs will immediately become GODS in the Big Apple-- and that alone is an incentive for guys to come. MSG is still MSG.

    It's stupid people who don't read between the lines who are surprised with KP parting ways with the Knicks. It's all written in the walls ever since KP acted like a Melo puppet and did not show up for that exit interview with Phil. I knew right then that there was a big crack in the relationship. And with his lower extremities showing similar cracks, then I was sure that the desire for separation became mutual.
    I am happy for both camps. Mavs look like the early winners, but when is KP gonna sit with an ailment again? Right now, the Knicks look like losers, but they are sitting on a chest of money to lure franchise players. Judgement is reserved until after they have reconstructed their line up for next year. Until then, the Knicks' grade is incomplete.

    So getting rid of bad contracts did cost you a more tan plausible perennial all-star...Man i ve seen this since they thought Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury where to became the best 1-2 punch in the NBA..lol...Adam Silver should arrange the Knicker Bockers from Dolan´s Family...

  • @cdhunter

    Last year, Porzingis averaged 22.7 points and 6.6 rebounds a game. This year, Tobias Harris is averaging 21 points and 8 rebounds... Yet, they act like getting Tobias and KEVIN DURANT would be a disappointment. Not saying Porzingis is overrated, but since he has left the league there have been a ton of guys who have stepped up into his statistical caliber (John Collins, Tobias Harris, Ben Simmons, Julius Randle, Giannis, Zach lavine, Nikola Mirotic, Lauri Markkanen, etc) and his value is being slightly inflated-- especially coming off an ACL as a 7-footer.

    • @invictus9467
      @invictus9467 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stats dont tell the full story: KP plays awesome defense/scores more efficiently than almost all the guys you named. Mirotic is a side guy. Markkanen is a poor mans KP.

    Gotta settle for just becoming a playoff team first. After that, Knicks might be able to change view on organization. Some Knick fans thinking championship now... I don't think that is realistic, even with KD and Kyrie. Everyone around them is too young and raw. But who knows...

    as inept as the knicks are, this trade imo 100% means 2 things or maybe both: KP only has around 6 nba years in him and the knicks know it or, Kd or Kyrie are def coming.. maybe both are true. you simply dont do this deal unless 1 of those things are true- KP is broken or big free agents are coming. But the knicks are legendarily inept.. so maybe that's all it is.

    Mavs get 2 cornerstone players younger than 25 and still have enough cap space to sign a big FA this off season while having a decent young core of Powell, Brunson, Kleber and Dorian Finney Smith. Knicks clears their cap but let's be honest...history is not on Knicks side with doing any good business with their cap. they might fuck around and panic and give Dragic and Middleton the max when they fail to bring in Kyrie and Durant. the only good thing is that they're tanking so they might get Zion. yall can say the knicks made a good move but let's be honest....it's the knicks. also Kyrie is a ball dominant guard and so is DSJ. if Kyrie do gets signed then what do they do with DSJ??
