That contra line... the tone, it's just so warm. My God. No words can describe that warmness... which I'm sure TH-cam video is doing absolutely NO justice to.
VOLUME + tone + lots of players + BRASS + conductor that looks like he's controlling the sound with his fingers = AMAZING!!!! The chills that were just sent down my spine are making me want preseason to be here already. Very nice job!
Dude....please, PLEASE, don't EVER remove this video. It is thee most awesome, coolest ear-lovin jizzim, sweetest, rockinest, down-right badest-ass-crap I've ever hear in MY LIFE!!!! I've been watching it on and off for a coupla years and love watching/listening to it!! Thank you for keeping this video up so i can get my dosage!!
anyone else hear the near screech notes from the trumpets? also the cute little one when he cut them off? It's so hard to keep those high of notes in tune. fucking amazing
Probably the best audio recording of ANY parking lot warmup. You can feel the power of that line and the hype these players had for this chart. I need to make this my alarm clock tune every morning with a huge speaker stack surrounding my bed! ........Each day could then start off with some awesome before breakfast.
My thoughts: Holy Shit that was sweet, *Cutoff* Oh man that trumpet hung over, *listen to it again* Holy Shit That note was so high only dogs should be able to hear it!!!
BD....the sheer amazingness blows me away, litteraly, when they came to my school and we sat in the middle of the trumpet arc i thought my ears were going to EXPLODE with the amazing power of awesomeness comming out of their bells.
From 1:18 - 2:00, Bloody hell! I don't care for brass music in the slightest, seen a few BD videos, but this tops the lot for epic-ness! Love how drone-y the chords are!
Fricken SICK!!!!. These kids are INCREDIBLE!!!The band is wonderful and the DIRECTOR has SO MUCH CONTROL and they are all RIGHT THERE, just AMAZING the SPOT ON top of it!!!!Just AWESTRUCK!!!WHAT A SOUND!
Dr. Beat urg... My Band Director put it on bitching betty once (the woman counting) turned it all the way up and walked behind us standing with the Speaker on the hight of our heads... My ears still ring when I'm thinking of that. Thanks for uploading, Blue Devils are perfect as always... from 02:20 it's unbelieveable!
Thanks to all DCI/Infectious Hornline enthusiasts for taking the time to comment on this vid. I only wish I had a camera to record all the amazing things I saw and heard on my DCI journey!
Not so sure...kinda looks like the hills around Walnut (Mt. San Antonio College). Who's running the line here? Too skinny to be John Meehan. I DO like how he dragged the chord changes out, tho...more time to enjoy that wonderful sound. I remember playing Space Chords in 84 when JACK Meehan was running it...the resolve was always a blast!
That is really really flippin amazing at 2:04 when he gets to the low brass it sounds so cool its like just no words then at the end ........speechless
Drum corps is the only thing I know that can make ordinary people shit themselves while watching a group warm up. It happens all the time I have seen it and I have done it. Awesome
I don't even know how to comment... I agree with rudalksnare... When you get goosebumps from a TH-cam video, just IMAGINE how that sounds in person... The sound on the clip makes me feel like I'm floating so I'm sure hearing it in person would probably jerk a tear from me... I really want to hear this in person...
i dont even like Blue Devils, but I'll admit that was amazing....BD always has the best warm ups to watch. i still dont see how its possible that they can play that loud and high during warm ups and still have chops for the actual show...they must have chops of steel.
Ahhhh...Space Chords.....the memories. STILL one of my fave exercies to play, although we didn't have that BITCHIN' chord progression at the end when Jack Meehan ran the line (back when son John was a little kid in the B corps)...just the cluster chord -- resolve -- and the altos putting in "Close Encounters." Kinda wish Jack DID have those chords back in the 80s...FUN to hear....but better behind a mouthpiece.
I love Dr. Beat Also, this video was just wow. My pants are ruined... We did the space cords in our last year's show to, it was alright not as good as this though :D
Keep in mind that the drill/warm-up serves a purpose, adding extra stuff is likely uneccessary. get the horns warm, get focused, listen, get the ensemble thinking ensemble. ;) Ghahn, it's cool. A lot of folks can't take a jibe or dig anymore in Corps. The top DCI hornlines are all extremly capable and well-trained, we all know this. The difference is in what the design staff gives them as a vehicle on-field to succeed or to fail. Reformance issues arent whats deciding a lot of it. 8)
Best "Space Music" on TH-cam. When is this from, '96? The modern Blue Devils don't dwell on the chords long enough, it isn't as good as this. God, that final push...
Heres my analogy: if you somehow took the most power jet engine in the world and made it produce music, being here in this video would be like standing right behind that engine at full throttle. :) :)
Yup. That was Scott Dean, the Blue Devils' soprano screamer-god, bringing The Word unto the people. If you haven't yet, try searching him here on TH-cam -- he gets special mention quite a bit. The guy was made of iron, and played with great style too. I don't think I ever heard him sound less than fabulous, on the field or off. Even with their bottomless talent pool, BD has had a hard time finding anyone who can step into Scott's verrrrrryy TALL platform shoes...lol...
This is a great video because it was filmed right in front of the tubas. For once, you can hear the full sound of the BD horline on a TH-cam video. Thanks!
ATTENTION! ALL LOW BRASS PLAYERS: Before this video gets to 2 min & 30 sec. You must go get tissues, beach towels, a box with peanut popcorn Styrofoam, a shop vac, and two pairs of undies because you will have one helleva mess to clean up! .....you've been warned. you're welcome. (oh yeah, and keep all children and small animals off your lap too. could be dangerous)
As I was going to say... BTW, reading Rexploit0990's comment, what he/she said is true. My principle instrument is trombone, but my secondary is the baritone. I started playing that in the 8th grade. I learned the fingering by substituing the slide positions for the vavles. Such as, 1st position is open valves...2nd is #2 valve...3rd is #1 valve...4th are #1 & #2 valves, etc. like everything else, it'll take practicing.
The crazy thing is, if you listen for that last trumpet note, it's actually in tune.
Yes, that was his ending note. Insane!!!
Double C all the way!
@@masonmathias5126 Super C's on deck
Not quite, he’s really sharp to the point he’s almost playing a D instead of the intended Double C
I hate that I'm old and cant do this anymore. never has a warm up damn near brought me to tears.....what a statement.
That contra line... the tone, it's just so warm. My God. No words can describe that warmness... which I'm sure TH-cam video is doing absolutely NO justice to.
Thanks. Happy to have any videos of us at all
At one point they start sounding like a synthesizer. Way cool. And that chord progression. Goosebump city!!!!
a Live WARM-UP, once the goosebumps go away, you will NEVER BE THE SAME I SWEAR!!!! Go Blue 👍
The voice of God Himself with enough sheer power to level a house. 2:33 is when he speaks with authority.... Absolutely
phenomenal.
If you haven't had the distinct PLEASURE of standing in front of the arc, or better yet, in the circle....dude, no words can describe
VOLUME + tone + lots of players + BRASS + conductor that looks like he's controlling the sound with his fingers = AMAZING!!!!
The chills that were just sent down my spine are making me want preseason to be here already.
Very nice job!
Each hand signal is a different chord or variation of that chord
Of all the BD space chord videos on TH-cam, this one is still my favorite of all.
The chromatics are amazing, but the chordal progression is beautiful.
The "hi mom!" at 2:55.
anyone else hear the near screech notes from the trumpets? also the cute little one when he cut them off? It's so hard to keep those high of notes in tune. fucking amazing
It never fails to bring me to my knees in goosebump heaven!
Thank you all for commenting and rating my video.

I would bet whoever was on that field in background, heard them loud & clear!
I can't handle what I'm feeling about this.
The feels are getting me on the deep side.
WISHED OT WAS LONGER.
shoulda had that one bold trumpet shoot for that quad C....sheesh
My thoughts: Holy Shit that was sweet, *Cutoff* Oh man that trumpet hung over, *listen to it again* Holy Shit That note was so high only dogs should be able to hear it!!!
Nicholas Bley what note? 😁

What in the blue FUCK did I just hear??? That was GOD TALKING!
Lil ha ha ha
thank god for no woodwinds!
Right on
My ears are weeping from this amazing sound.
I wish my computer - and attached speakers - were good enough to do this justice.
James Ritter: That's why I have a patch cord from my PC to my component stereo system!! Now THAT'S REALITY!!
1:25-1:57....O-M-G!!!! Then 2:33 on....WHOOOOO!!!! I need a cigarette afterwards...!! DAYUM!!!
Phantom Regiment fans need to stop giving the thumbs down. LOL...squeak that super C.
stumpmtsr That's not a squeak. Little soft on the release but he's got all of it.
Figure of speech.
LOL...I was just making up a reason for all the thumbs down. Would you rather me say Santa Clara? Or Blue Stars?
+Eric Matthews Do you think anyone believes that?
+Brian Haag what do you mean by that? I've watched a GoPro from a lead trumpet in phantom and he's right.
BD....the sheer amazingness blows me away, litteraly, when they came to my school and we sat in the middle of the trumpet arc i thought my ears were going to EXPLODE with the amazing power of awesomeness comming out of their bells.
Thank you for this in 2022, So good to hear this tuning. The low brass slid before the rest. I get it.
From 1:18 - 2:00, Bloody hell! I don't care for brass music in the slightest, seen a few BD videos, but this tops the lot for epic-ness! Love how drone-y the chords are!
I'm a drummer and that gave me goosebumps
I'm a drummer and I can even appreciate this- Imagine you've been hauling lumber in Alaska all day, and BD
When I need my brass fix, I always come back to this.
just rewatched like 10 times, never gets old...
BD and Phantom have the best hornlines....PERIOD
as a prior upper split lead myself, as long as the scream is in tune and fully supported, long live the hang over!
2:33 is like the universe being recreated.
2:48
amazing pedals from the contra line
totally beastly...and amazing corp. with an amazing sound. this is the BEST...PERIOD!
Bruh our head phones turn them all the way up and close your eyes your in a new universe
Pretty sure that Double C was Scott Dean.
Daniel Murray lol thiw was BD 04
Daniel Murray this*
Daniel Murray no need to apologize fam

2:34 is Amazing! I love the chord progressions! Real Sweet.
Drum corps is the only thing I know that can make ordinary people shit themselves while watching a group warm up. It happens all the time I have seen it and I have done it. Awesome
I'm remember this. 2004 Mt Sac Walnut , Ca show. Also you hear SCV's drumline finishing their Scheherazde 2004 closer
I don't even know how to comment...

one of the best brasslines I have ever heard
Downey in his hey day. The greatest hornlines of all time
As a former DC member from the 70's (Hawthorn Muchachos), this is the kind of power & harmonics we played in the show & on the fields!
Amazing, and thrilling. Problem is that there was nothing in their show that year that was nearly as thrilling as this parking lot warmup.
That double c....
I love hearing the breath the crowd takes after the final release.
my god!
this is amazing.
i wanna hear this in person!
i dont even like Blue Devils, but I'll admit that was amazing....BD always has the best warm ups to watch. i still dont see how its possible that they can play that loud and high during warm ups and still have chops for the actual show...they must have chops of steel.
outstanding brass tradition and staffing
This is probably my favorite video on youtube. I would have sold my soul to be there in person. and I'm a drummer!
Always a trumpet
i love phantom regiment..
but overall bluedevils are amazing!!
so i got love for both of them!!
Ahhhh...Space Chords.....the memories. that double C at the end just puts the cherry on top of that cake.
HOLY EFFFFFFFFFFFF.
Yes, even a bassoonist can appreciate a brassline.
Oh, baby, yeah! lol....
Beautifully said.
Ahhhhh, nobody wields sonic assassination devices quite like the Devils. Does the soul good!
I love Dr. Beat
Also, this video was just wow. My pants are ruined...
We did the space cords in our last year's show to, it was alright not as good as this though :D
We have the same warm up. It even says Blue Devils Warm Ups lol
I believe that during the whole space chord part, it says to play a 5th apart from your neighbor. or something along those lines.
Music of the universe.
thats amazing and lovely.
That trip C OMAWGAWDDD!!
It's double not triple
1:28 that's the chord from Carolina Crowns 2012 ballad... Just had to put that out there lol but holy Fuck their delicious
Pure Blue Devilly goodness!
didnt expect to hear the THX theme from a marching band
Keep in mind that the drill/warm-up serves a purpose, adding extra stuff is likely uneccessary. get the horns warm, get focused, listen, get the ensemble thinking ensemble. ;)

I love how at 1:21 you can actually hear one of the basses blow wind through his horn before that really low tone comes out.
To me that sounded like cymbals from the other Corps practicing in background.
This is a great video because it was filmed right in front of the tubas. For once, you can hear the full sound of the BD horline on a TH-cam video. Thanks!
Goose bumps that
last 30 seconds!!

A New Dimension every 5 seconds after 1:25. If I was entering a new world, this is the GATEWAY MUSIC I WOULD BE HEARING!!!!!!
i know right
there are some situations where it is inappropriate but this is totally the right kinda thing screaming is for
I like it. When it comes to BD I expect it. even if it might not be super high it's a crowd pleaser
Some of my officemates just got on my case for listening to this - "dude, we heard that over here." Did I mention I was wearing earbuds?
WOW!
Why do people wear marching gloves during practice in the summer? I'm suspecting its to keep their horn clean (?)
welp
now ya know
not to worry.... im addicted myself. Just watched it 4 or 5 times. Cheers!
As I was going to say...

it's 04 for sure. i've seen this video before this season. it's the Walnut, CA competition.
