The Stunning Abandoned Bonds Family House Left Forgotten in West Virginia *Built in 1833

- This stunning old farm house was built in the early 1800’s around 1830-1840. For a modestly wealthy agrarian family who also owned a large brick kiln nearby. The same bricks from the kiln were used to build the brick house in the video. During the American civil war it’s rumored the house was used as a field hospital for a small skirmish and the house also being used briefly as a Union headquarters. After the house survived the civil war it passed through a number of family’s who farmed the land. It was last used as a dairy farm in the 1980’s and has been vacant for nearly 4 decades. There was an attempt at restoration in the early 2000’s but the money ran out and now the house sits lonely and slowly crumbling away. Really incredible old place glad i could document this old house. Thanks for watching. Like and leave a comment below for me if you enjoyed the video. Thank you very much.
Kappy, thanks for responding. I'm pretty sure the video I mentioned to you was PBS (NC). The narrator gave you credit, and suggestion to look you up for more old homes. I thought it was a great honor for you! Lets other people know what a great job you are doing to help preserve these old home! Thanks for all your hard work!
@@daciaclewis How neat! Appreciate you sharing that! Thank you very much for the kind words and watching!! :)
The owl statue in the attic is still doing its job. Nice old house.
@@sharondetrick950 True that lol! Thanks for watching!
Built in a time when America was great.
Make America great again!
America always has been, and always will be great.
How "great" was it for the slaves?
I can see these precious homes being left, but where in the world does all the trash come from? I just can't seem to wrap my mind around that. Thank you for sharing this one with us, Kappy.
Thank You for filming these old places. I could picture horse and wagons and later cars parked in front of the old general store.
I appreciate your steady hand when filming and slow careful movements as well as your attention to architectural detail. ❤
That last room in the 2nd house must have been the kitchen, with that giant fireplace, and it’s refreshing not to see tons of graffiti, what a neat place! The old faded wallpaper looked really cool too! Thanks for posting!
Interesting that the living space above the store didn't seem to have a kitchen or bathroom. Running up and down the back stairs all the time would have been a huge inconvenience. I bet the missing Mantles in the second building were really nice, that's why they were stolen. What a shame. Thanks, Kappy have a great weekend
Definitely an outhouse was used.
@@user-randi1987 I wondered about that as well! Seems strange to have no kitchen or bathroom! Thank you very much for watching! Same to you! :)
Wow that old Coca Cola floor fridge is beautiful! Once upon a time there must have been so much life there!
The second house, I used to go past that everyday on the bus, until they rerouted the road. I can't recall if I remember anyone living there. Always thought it was beautiful!
A very beautiful old house! It’s so sad to see them abandoned! 👍❤️🤘
@@carlashepherd9362 Agreed! Thank you for watching!! :)
Where in WV are these houses? Thx @@urbanexploringwithkappy1773
Saturday morning with Kappy! My daughter lives in WV. so many abandoned houses!
@@joanneclose7041 yes indeed there is! Lots of old beauty’s! Thank you for watching!! :)
Love these historical old homes- too bad so many decay away- very cool to be able to see them- thank you!
It amazes me that for a house being 200 years old, nobody ever painted all the wood trim and stairs in this house.
@@magnamanv45 it is pretty interesting to think! Thank you for watching! :)
"I guess no basement. Fine with me!" lol
@@benselander1482 always lol! Thanks for watching!! :)
Look at the support stulls made from trees
7:56 The beams (up and down) in the basement were amazing. Looked they still had bark on them
Do you ever receive a message from someone who recognizes the home as a place they used to live? Love watching your videos Kappy! Hope you are well!

I never saw a kitchen area in that first place…hmmm.

Awesome five-bay Federal... Same age as my Tennessee log house... That staircase.. especially the banister.. is wonderful... Pray it be saved... Thanks.. Kappy...

Love the way the basement steps were hidden in the general store!
Your videos are by far the best thanks
@@lisarichard4467 I’m really glad you enjoy! Thank you for the kind words and watching! :)
I love the simple beauty of those old one pane windows & the view from the porch is lovely!
Absolutely loved the brick house! One can easily imagine it being used as a hospital during the civil war. What was sad to see, for me anyhow, was the desecration of the missing mantles. An insult to the house! Thanks Kappy for sharing this historical place!
Looks like the second place has a fairly new metal roof on it. I’m glad someone has done that to protect it as much as possible from the weather.
Awesome video as always. Those “corner shops” as they call them in England were very popular in the city as well. A few lasted into the mid 1990’s in southern Indiana. Store on the ground floor and home above it. We had one on the corner of the street where I grew up. Thanks for the great videos. Killer view of that railroad bridge from upstairs
@@ChadQuick270W I loved that view as well! Thank you for the kind words and watching!! :)
I was so excited when you found that last mantle. This house is almost identical to my Federal house, built in 1827 in PA.
Lindo lugar Gracias por compartir Un saludo desde Chile 🇨🇱
The 2nd house was amazing. The mold on the walls made it look like they were marble. Don't know why they would remove the fireplace mantles they add beautiful touches to the house. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and safe travels
@@cecoya Really appreciate the kind words! Thank you very much for watching!! :)
That attic in the brick house is the creepiest one I ever saw. Maybe it's just me, but the door even gave me the heeby jeebies. And then you open the door and there's an owl statue sitting there. Glad you got to show one of the mantles.
Love your channel! I commented before stating that l just found your channel recently and just love it. But l wanted to say how much l love the fact that you are so respectful of the properties you explore. I think you are a young man with an old soul. You really seem to love and care about the homes you visit. I love your excitement of old fireplaces, wood trim, old well crafted furniture and stair cases. I watch some other explorers who go into places and touch everything and rummage thru things that they shouldn't and l don't doubt that they take some things when the camera is off. I don't get that felling from you. Keep up the good work, it is truly a joy watching your videos.😊💞
BEAUTIFUL VIEW OF THE HILLS PROXIMAL TO THE TRAIN VIADUCT!
I love the old General Stores and gas stations with living quarters. My dream house. Thank you once again for the great finds! ❤

Some reason my lady got a eerie feeling on first home/store. 😮 We love that second home. Fine work Kappy 👍
The wooden dowels for the support beams is something i never knew about. Wow.
2 super houses Kappy. It's neat to see an old General store. The shelves too. Wow! Love the second house. Beautiful. Sad to see it rotting away. One awesome staircase. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice old places!
En la primer casa vi pasar 2 veces un orbe cuando estabas en la cocina. Excelente tu trabajo como siempre!!.

This house was no doubt a charming home…I particularly loved the staircase. The noose threw me for a second 😅, but a cool place. Thank you, Kappy!

Really interesting to see some of these old places, how they lived, and how they were made. You can see they were made with pride to detail and quality compared to how some homes that are made today are, Great Explores ! 😃

I love the old brick house. From looks of the roof and the interior wall repaired with cinderblock I wonder if someone was trying to restore it. It reminds me of houses in the eastern panhandle. This was a fun explore Kappy, thank you !

That's a beautiful old home. Sad to see it in that condition. Loved the General Store too. Could see my self fixing it up and living there. Awesome video. 😊
Thanx Kappy more of ur great vids! General store was awesome! Can u imagine when it was operating and everyone would gather there, shop, talk etc. Bet it was awesome. Plz b safe out there.
Love both of the houses. The view from the general store was so beautiful. My parents were born and raised in WV . My father and my daughter are going to WV this week actually. It's an incredibly beautiful state.
great explores Kappy, that second house must have been beautiful back in its day
What a gorgeous view!
This is an awesome find!
Great video Kappy. I have a client who has a trap door under her kitchen rug. She can use her basement for storage etc. It’s great!!
I live near WV loved the brick house from 1833 deserves to be saved and restored, if at all possible, is just a few years off from actually celebrating it 200 yrs.
nicely built house i am surprised that it still standing even if the inside is a mess

Thanks for showing the beautiful old brick home shame it's left to rot
Niiiice!!!! You find the best historic homes-and tell us when they were built.
That second Flemish brick house was fascinating. Wanted to see the fireplaces, but loved the staircase. Thanks, Kappy…
All the lightbulbs are intact. Amazing!
I love these old houses. I love all the woodwork.
The inside was in remarkably good shape compared to the exterior!!! This building was sooo very well built!!! The upstairs window & door casings & hardware were in remarkably good shape!!! Sad that they couldn’t have been reused in some manner 😞😰😢
The second house outside brickwork is still in good shape 👍 Another very well built home!!! I loved the wooden doors & windows casings, beautiful banister & chair rails!!! I’m sooo very glad that they saved the fireplaces & door hardware 👍What a grand old place this is 👍🙏💕 Thank you Kappy for 2 more faded gems in our ever changing environment! A grand old dame she is👍🙏💕
This old store would make a perfect little restaurant or second hand thrift antique shop
Now this second house i love from the outside i like that old farmhouse look..boy thats a tall one there gee long way down..
So far the metal roof on the 2nd house is doing it's job.

I think someone came in and took the fireplaces and door knobs. It's a gorgeous place. But, I love love the old store. Thanks Kappy.
@@donnagagne3813 I think you are right about the fireplace mantles! Thank you for watching!! :)
Thanks for an incredible explore Kappy
The old store brought back memories of going to the city with my granny. There was a general store we always stopped at. It was similar to the 1st place you showed. They lived upstairs but I never got to see it.
The old brick house was simple but still had a lot of the cool old features. The dowls in the attic were awesome to see. I was in an 1800s era barn that was put together with dowls instead of nails. It was weird though, the places where patches were fixed with nails, didn't stand the test of time like the dowls did.
Another great video Mr Kappy! Thanks for taking me along!
That first old house really creeped me out. Looks like some squatters were there at one time possibly. Second house beautiful carved wood staircase.
Hello Kappy the first house and store had a wonderful view of the hills with the st shading them into colours. The second house so lovely to think built with wood and dowels still standing a shame some are not bought up. Are they still owned?. Love your videos so interesting to see parts of American thank you so much. You sound to be a young person. I am 71 almost. Keep trucking best wishes beverley uk.😃

Neat video! That noose was a little unsettling.
5:00 Just think about how many hands have touched that doorknob to the general store.
Cool old place!
That brick house was amazing. The staircase is stunning. Looks like good quality materials too. Same with the plaster board and wood trim. That has to have been a well built, sturdy home to still be in this good of shape after all these years. Although it did have a decent looking metal roof, so perhaps that's holding it together. But still, they don't build em as sturdy as this anymore, I will say that. This is like a rock compared to what they slap up today.lol
