The calypsoian, a complete musician. As for the Mighty Shadow (Winston Bailey) he is a good as they come. He will make you dance to social commentary. A true master of the art form, and a musical god.
@@tehillajeffrey5811I didn’t really know 😀 Chu Chu and I were at Mona together. In fact. Myself, Frankie Khan, and Ian Simon were his back-up singers 😂. Good to know de kaiso gene pass down!
That's a reasonable assessment. I struggle with "best" with Shadow because he produced so many amazing pieces of art. In terms of lyrical and philosophical depth, it's hard for me to choose between My Belief, Poverty is Hell, and Dingolay.
Happy and sad at the same time. One of the first songs I ever heard by Shadow. So many memories. How life has changed but thanks to some really cool people I am listening to it today. So grateful...
I am a first generation New Yorker, my family is from St. Thomas USVI. Although I was not born on the island I am a St. Thomian in my soul. Back in the day we played this record so much that it couldn't play anymore. I am proud to be a West-Indian American!
Composition, Creativity, Cleverness, Soulfulness, Thoughtfulness...a lyrical genius and the music ain't bad either. Winston Anthony Bailey, The Shadow, son of Trinidad by way of Tobago---it just don't get no better. Sing on! Live on my brother! Thanks a million for a life of sweet calypso music! Thanks also to @cool4rocknroll for the post.
It's a great honour to be able to write a post in February of 2017 a new millennium and listening to a great & phenomenal song like this one of The Mighty Shadow My belief... like I remembered it growing up as YOU CAN'T CHANGE ME! Yes these great singers are to be remembered for all time... for their great contribution to our history ...hopefully from listening to us our children that are born here in North America namely Canada 🇨🇦would appreciate and carry on the legacy. Just Awesome to be able to hear a song and it could teleport you back to your childhood growing up in the West Indies 🇦🇮and remembering what and where you were wether it was playing childhood games or just hanging out with neighbourhood friends while listening to these great people growing up! Thanks for doing this we appreciate it all! Awesome musical contribution Shadow the best!!💯
I've been looking for this forever, but it always eluded me because I didn't have the correct name. Earlier this week, while holding on the phone for a representative of a service to which I wanted to subscribe, an instrumental version was being played as "waiting music", and this reinvigorated my resolve to search. Finally, after encountering the sub-par remake on another link, I landed upon this gem. Yesssss!!!
For years i've been looking for this track. I only have the 45 and ive been trying to share this song with the world. Finally! This is my favorite soca chune of ALL TIME. SO GOOD.
The most all around uniquely talented artist ever to come out of T&T thanks for sharing your gift with us Bassman! RIP ❤
I was around 9 years old hearing this song back then...I have been a fan since...It is your Birthday...I celebrate you...

A gem of a song that is relevant for all ages. Deceptively simple, but highly philosophical. One of the world's most imaginative and gifted composers.
@@advenjo Well said, indeed!
