    For those who wonder why the bass keeps playing when Al Pompilli is doing acrobatics, here is the answer.
    I think it's Franny Beecher who takes over, we see it at 3:53, I'm a bass player and Al doesn't have the level to do the walking we hear, but Franny does.
    But if you look at Franny Beecher's hands, it matches the walking speed of the bass.
    And also watch Franny's last chord at the end of the song there's no treble only a 4:32 bass sound, then he turns to his amp to go back to his normal setting.
    It's just my opinion. 😉

      I guess you are right. In the seventies, the Comets used a rhythm guitarist to take over the electric bass while the bassist did the antics on the acoustic double bass.

    I read that rock and roll was for the very young. A sign of rebellion. I can't imagine these great musicians rebelling for anything. They look like normal guys I see around town. That's what I like about this band.

      But at the time of the rock n roll explosion most mums and dads who were brought up on opera (mine were) and musicals from across the pond, hated this sudden (and it was sudden) change. My father said many time Bill Haley won't last a few weeks. He also said that of Elvis 2 months and he will be finished !!! I think that at the time adults say this too much liberation and loss of control over their kids and so condemed it. I am 80+ and look at youngsters at theses raves and think....well it's only rock and roll over again, a bit different but really the same.
      And yes I agree they were (and on utube) still are great musicians

      @Stefan Nawrath And he did bring joy to millions. He also introduced many other musicians to the world stage and we all remember when Rudy was introduced during the film Rock Around the Clock as Bill described it "a cute little number called Rudy's Rock" simply brilliant. Thanks to TH-cam I can still enjoy this all over again

      This is true, but it has the advantage of having a good sound, without the scream of the public that covers the music and a full concert without interruptions for fighting in the audience.

    Sorta looks like Bill Haley and Al Pompilli didn't get along very well. Especially toward the end

    Who's playing Bass when Al isn't?

    • @benbop1965
      @benbop1965  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry your question lacks precision, what "Al" Al Rex, Al Pompilli?
      On this tour it's Al Pompilli who plays the bass and when he sings it's Bill Haley who plays the bass. 😉

      @@benbop1965 I believe that Shane is referring to e.g. 2:53 where Al puts the bass down but you can still hear it playing. This is very obviously a live recording, so how did they do it? Is there another bass player hiding behind a curtain? :-)
