Oh my GOD! I've seen this movie several times and listened to the CD so many times that I have every song memorized. I have NEVER seen or heard ANYONE sing and perform this song as brilliantly as this. It is a masterpiece of grand proportions. There is no one on the planet that can top Dan's vocals - NO ONE! I never listened to metal (I'm 70) until someone recommended that I listen to Dan. The first cover I heard of his was The Sound Of Silence and I've been hooked ever since. The masterful way he uses all the different qualities and registers of his gorgeous voice is phenomenal - that metal edge on the phrase "Nail me to your CROSS and break me" shatters me every time. And then add in the commitment, the emotion, the stage presence and charisma, and you have, as you say, a mind-blowing performance. For another glimpse at this side of Dan's artistry, please have a look some time at The Music of the Night - another stage-like performance, non-metal, perfectly straight. I think he could walk out of his studio in Brazil and onto any Phantom stage in the world. And yes, Evanescence, Nightwish, and all his other female covers are also superb. I hope I can listen to it "live" one day! I read somewhere that it was mocked that he has many fans from the older age group! I have listened to many reaction videos by voice coaches and singing teachers, and so many of them seem to be in love with THEIR voices, and get way too technical, using terms that a lot of us don't know or have difficulty understanding. You have a way of explaing things that are understandable and really get to the heart of things. I really do appreciate that. I am no music expert, I know what I like, and to me, Dan is a musical genius! He can sing anything with power, emotion, subtleness, range, and more. I never fail to be impressed by him. Jacqueline, I loved watching your eyes and face during this video. Dan got me a few months ago when I saw Peter Barber ( opera guy) review this performance. The thing about Dan, he believes this with his heart. This is his faith belief. Gotta tell you, I felt like I was in Church over Holy Thursday & Good Friday masses listening to him. He hit me right in my 69 year old soul. We tend to forget our core faith given the turbulence in this world. I get so upset that people are still waging war and killing each other over religion. "If die would I be noticed more... would it matter?" For me, The Holy Spirit is in this man's heart. He is singing from his heart and soul. Listen to Amazing Grace and " For All," written by Roy Khan. His "Angels We Heard on High," is out of this world. Then there is all of his other music. He is a phenom. I hope he stays true to himself.

I hope everyone has seen Ted Neely sing this song in Jesus Christ Superstar, so they know the context. I never thought anyone could outdo Neely's version, particularly "the scream," until Dan did it. Not only a much richer voice, especially in the low range, plus so much MORE raw emotion. I cry everytime.
I'm not even a fan of Jesus Christ Superstar for personal reasons having to do with the script & character portrayal aspects of the musical, but I wanted to see Dan's version, regardless. Purely judging Dan's performance vocally and theatrically, it absolutely blew me away. He nailed it. Actually, as is often the case, Dan's version is better than the originals. Even Ted Neeley, who played the part for so long, isn't near as captivating as Dan in this song. Dan definitely could do stage performance quite easily. I tried to see if you had reacted to Dan's version of Music of the Night from the Phantom of the Opera and didn't see a video. If you want to see another theatrical performance, that would definitely be the next one I'd suggest. He did an outstanding job on it, as well.
