Thanks for reviewing a GW game. Still on the fence, mostly due to the price and player count concerns you shared. Keep up the honest reviews so we don't get bamboozled.
Thanks! Yeah I'm trying to be as balanced and honest as I can. I tend to like a lot of games. I often find enjoyment in most things even if it isnt perfect and I'll try to point that out as often as I can.
Great review. I would buy this game but I can't justify the cost. I really wish they had made this more than just a game about Khorne. I want a dwarf slayer or a warrior-priest of Sigmar! It's easy to see you put a lot of work and thought into your video reviews. I really enjoy the format, it's very unique and professional.
Enjoyed your review on this. You mentioned that you can use other Age of Sigmar miniatures in this game, do they include stats to use these miniatures in Age of Sigmar games?
They have 4 stats block in the rulebook that comes in this box and there are a few more in the september 2016 issue of White Dwarf (it has Gorechosen on the cover and it's pictured in this video). I'm going to imagine they'll all be in White Dwarf mags going forward. The Sept edition also had one of the minis thats in the rulebook bagged and stapled to it ($10 for the mag and mini)
I agree. The price does seem a little high, but, those miniatures look sweet! I wonder how much just those miniatures would be if you were to buy them for Age of Sigmar? If you were to get them as a collector/painter or to use in other games the price might be easier to handle.
The miniatures sold separately are $20+ each. That is why $60 is a good deal if you can use the miniatures in AOS or some other game as well. I found it online around $50 or so shipped.
Are the game's mechanics built around the arena being the size that is is? What I mean is if I was to make a custom arena, say 2-3 tiles larger all around, would the game still work?
I haven't analysed it to that level but I imagine that the game designed at that size becasue its more exciting with that number of hexes. More would probably work fine, but it would take longer for people to reach each other and then you wouldn't end up needing all the extra space around it. You could certainly make a larger custom arena but still retain the same number of playable spaces and it would be fine.
Yeah it's all about Khorne with this game. I dunno, you never know what GW will do in an upcoming White Dwarf. They might include stats for prisoners that the GoreChosen get to beat up. We'll see... I'd like to see that too. I wanna take a Slayer in there and tear it up!
Yeah, GW is a whole different ballgame from FFG. Minis are world class quality but you also pay for it. Games are very different in play style too. Hope you enjoy them!
I did hear it's on the list - Along with Battlefleet Gothic and... hmmm I cant remember. I think Adeptus Titanicus. There's a list somewhere of relatively reputable info on the upcoming releases.
Looks like my type of game! Totally agree about the arena board. I'm gonna add it to my holiday wish list..............and wait for my wife's approval.. =p
The reason for the cost are those miniatures. They are $30 each. They are use in age of sigmar, it works out great for the price of 2 miniatures you get 4 and a board game.
That is correct, but not everyone plays Age of Sigmar. Its great for you and me becasue we do play AoS. Adding these dudes to my armies for half cost is great. But like I said in the video I'm ignoring quality of miniatures in that opinion as most of my viewers are board gamers first and I like to approach it from that standpoint. $60 is twice what you'd pay for this game if it were from another publisher. Sure the miniatures wouldnt be nearly as good as these but often board gamers dont need miniatures this good. In my review price compares to gameplay rather than components. But that said, you are absolutely right. I've said as much (in the audio show) for games with even better value, specifically Deathwatch Overkill - thats a killer deal right there.
We can also argue that even as Age of Sigmar models are they actually worth $30 each? They gave away one of those models with the September's White Dwarf. I think Games Workshop is moving in the right direction, but they still need to do better. Blood bowl looks to be a great package and worth the price.
Yes. $35 for 12 Skaven players and then $30 for a single Age of Sigmar model? Granted the AoS models are much more detailed but still, seems a little skewed. I'm also not bashing on GW here either, I mean they cost what they cost and people can buy them or not buy them. The products are amazing - I'm not kidding when I say best in the world. They know miniatures better than anyone. It's all perceived value by the individual. Miniatures are worth the money I spend on them to me, but thats just me making my own value judgement. Heh, I paid $60 for this game so... yeah... I thought this game was worth it for me. I didnt like paying it, but it did.
I think it is good to be critical of companies. I do believe GW are starting to move in the right direction. Bringing back specialist game, having a decent magazine again. For me the miniatures are worth it, I enjoy assembling and painting them and using them in games. I have spent countless hours playing WH:Fanatsy and 40k. My copy of Gorechosen is on order. Can't wait, I needed a model or two for my Khorne Bloodbound and the game itself look like fun. Great review by the way, I like the way these are done.
That's because GW prices the models according to their utility in the game, not their production cost. They have a pricing problem. They _could_ stuff these boxes with minis as they are making them anyway and their production costs aren't really anything -- but then the miniature gamers would hoard the games just to get the minis for cheaper. Gorechosen is kinda easier for them since the models are character models, and you can't really stuff your army full of the same character.
Awesome review! Nice shots, great production, but I don't like the vignette you are using. It drew my eyes off of the subject several times during the video. Keep the reviews coming!
Great review! I'm very happy to see you guys (Jamie) doing different types of content! Tony needs to stop being lazy cowardly manure and get in on the video production. Cabal coast to coast! I'm not too impressed with the game. I see what GW is trying to do with the AoS integration and White Dwarf bur for someone who doesn't care about their other products it's a turn off. It makes the game feel incomplete or at the most lacking. It seems like they didn't learn from their partnership with FFG. The majority of board gamers don't care about table top quality miniatures, we want a good game for our dollar. I haven't heard a single person complain about the lack of table top ready space marines in Forbidden Stars. Additionally when I bust open a game at my buddies house all frothing at the mouth I don't want to have to glue minis! That's stupid! I want to play the dang board game. When I want to paint minis I'll buy minis or paint my pre-assembled board game minis. I want to like you GW but you make it so dang difficult! OK GW rant over... on the plus side my wallet can recover from the Secret Cabal's Mechs vs Minions review which had me on the Riot website for 4 hours chompin' at the bit to get a copy!
Yeah no Gorechosen women. I dont think I've ever seen a women in the ranks of Khorne soldiers. Of the 4 Chaos gods, Khorne usually has all men, Slaanesh has a lot of women, Nurgle is a mix is disgusting diseased males and females and Tzeentch are usually weird monsters.
Fantastic review and production! I bought my box more than a year ago, and have not had a chance to play yet, but hopefully will soon!
You continue to impress me with your quality of videos :)
Thanks Heather!
Great video, please keep making these!! Love the podcast, these are a great addition!
Thanks Jake! My nose is to the grindstone. I have another one in the hopper for later this week.
Loving the quality on these!
Thanks Matt, I really appreciate that. I'm really trying to offer the best quality I can. It'll only get better I hope.
Another great review video! Just got this, hyped to play it.
Thanks Hugh!
Great video & love the look of the Secret Cabal website! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Darren, really glad you're enjoying it!

Thanks Jon!
Keep the reviews coming they're great.
Oh yeah, you know me! No rest for the wicked... I'm gonna keep'em coming as long as you guys watch.
Especially Games Workshop games, as this is some kind of new beginning for them... you could be Russell Crow's younger brother XoD
Another great video! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Craig!

Thanks Eric! Really appreciate the compliment.
This game looks great. Thanks for the review, I'd never heard of Gorechosen before seeing this video.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it if you get your hands on it.

Jamie, you should have painted the mini's before the review so we could see your skills close up in HD! Thanks for the review.
Also your lighting and background are on point. Good quality review.
Man, I have got to get my hands on this one...
I agree. The price does seem a little high, but, those miniatures look sweet! I wonder how much just those miniatures would be if you were to buy them for Age of Sigmar? If you were to get them as a collector/painter or to use in other games the price might be easier to handle.

Hell, if it works, you could make it twice as big, and have double the players.
I haven't analysed it to that level but I imagine that the game designed at that size becasue its more exciting with that number of hexes. Now that Fantasy Flight dropped it's warhammer license I may have to get into games workshop products. Fantasy Flight was pretty much my intro.
Yeah, GW is a whole different ballgame from FFG. Minis are world class quality but you also pay for it. Games are very different in play style too. Hope you enjoy them!
Testing my TH-cam name for the contest, this was neat too.
Looks Awesome!
Interesting game with beautiful minis
Wow, you just distilled my review down to 5 words!
So what about BLADEBORN?
Great review Jamie! Hoping they bring back Necromunda!
I did hear it's on the list - Along with Battlefleet Gothic and... hmmm I cant remember. I think Adeptus Titanicus. There's a list somewhere of relatively reputable info on the upcoming releases.
Awesome review videos!
Thanks!
Awesome review!!!
Thanks Scott!
Redarg approves of this video.
You know it was so hard for me not to purposefully mispronounce his name. Re-Darg.
Looks like my type of game! Totally agree about the arena board. I'm gonna add it to my holiday wish list..............and wait for my wife's approval.. =p
Don't we all have to wait for that very thing :)

I have zero interest in this game, but Jamie entertains me. Looking forward to the next vid.
Well that's good! Glad I at least entertain :)
Awesome!
Thanks Isaac!
Well Done!
Thanks Mark

No gore chosen women eh? Guess it's not equal opportunity when it comes to blood for the blood god :)
Yeah no Gorechosen women. I dont think I've ever seen a women in the ranks of Khorne soldiers. Of the 4 Chaos gods, Khorne usually has all men, Slaanesh has a lot of women, Nurgle is a mix is disgusting diseased males and females and Tzeentch are usually weird monsters.
imanujakku In fact the game contains rules for Valkia The Bloody, female champion of Khorne)
Awesome!
