    I use the GSW690 iii with a 65mm wide-angle lens for landscapes and the GW670 iii with a 90mm normal lens for general subjects. At first, I did not like the plastic bodies but after much use, I really like the way plastic bodies handle wear and tear.

      Good point. The plastic covers are ding and dent resistant.

    Hi thanks for the video it was great. I have a Pentax 67 but always fancied the idea of shooting 6x9 being that you have both do you find it gives you a very different tool to work with and how do you feel the quality of image compares. Also do you prefer the 90mm or 65 tanks

      Do you mean what's it like to use a rangefinder vs. an SLR? It boils down to the viewfinder: everything in focus, visible at all times vs. ground glass focusing with mirror blackout.
      Image quality is the same if you're fitting it to paper according to the short edge (55mm), but 6x9 has a slight improvement if you fit it to paper according to the long edge (84mm vs. 70mm is a 16.7% increase, and generally people can reliably tell a difference at 15%).
      I don't really prefer either lens. Both are great, and it comes down to a matter of angle of view.

    Great, thorough walk-through of the camera. I have a GW690, and I find the film door feels a bit bendy. It's unnerving. Everything else about it is perfect, and I'm just waiting for the film to return... I'll need a GSW690 as well and I'm really eyeing up the three. Is it a sturdier build? Thanks for making this video.

      Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful. =)
      And don't worry about it, all swing-back film doors are bendy: GW690III, Pentax 67, Mamiya RB67, Rolleiflex, Canon New F-1, Pentax Spotmatic, etc. Your GW690 is good to go!

    I was originally interested in the gw690, but have the option of getting a gsw690. Which do you find yourself using more?

    • @UglyCameras
      @UglyCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the GW690 more because I use it as a diary camera rather than a landscape camera. The 40mm-e lens just "feels right." What are you going to be doing with it?

    Nice vid, don’t know if you’ll respond but I’ve been tossing up between the GW and the GSW. I’m going to be shooting a lot of 35mm panoramas in it, what would you recommend?

    • @UglyCameras
      @UglyCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! If you're getting a Fuji 6x9 mainly to shoot 35mm panoramas, and you're flush with cash, the Fujica G690 or Fuji GL690 with the 50mm f/5.6 SWS (current asking prices on eBay max out ~$1200 with the accessory viewfinder) would be at the top of my list. Second would be the GSW.
      Lots of other options, too: Mamiya Press Super 23, Horseman 970 or VH-R, and Graflex Century Graphic 23.

    Which version of the gw690 would last longer? The version 2 or 3? Cause im a bit worried about the plastic cracking or breaking off due to time and age

    • @UglyCameras
      @UglyCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure about aging plastic. The GW690II that I used to own had a crack next to a strap lug from a previous owner, but it didn't do anything. If there are no cracks already, not dropping the camera or having it knocked around is probably the most important thing.

    Hi, super presentation! Thnx! Can you pls let me know how hard is to focus in low light? Thnx!

      I checked with both GW and GSW, and in the darker parts of my home (EV3 = ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/2 sec.) it's easy to focus on objects with high to low contrast that are large enough for Vernier focusing (eyeglasses, shadows on clothes, furniture), but hard to focus on objects with high contrast that are too small for Vernier focusing (eyeball, my birthmark).

    Very thorough review of the camera. The only thing you forgot to mention was the threaded shutter button for attaching a cable release.

    I like my GW690ii so much that I'm looking to buy a GSW690iii. Thanks for this review and accompanying resources. I did not know Epstein or Hernandez used this camera.
