Can't go wrong with these guys. They have such a unique sound. This album almost overwhelms me with nostalgia. I used to cut out some of the breakdowns from certain songs and use it as ring tones, which sometimes made me very slow to answer because of how awesome it was to listen to 😂

Long time Infected Mushroom fan here: they’re traditionally a psychedelic trance act (yes, think energetic raves in clubs, the forest/desert, and on the beach). They are classical trained musicians though and have branched into loads of genres but certainly rock/metal vibes quite a bit.

This was great! Infected Mushrooms usually plays at festivals with the main focus on Psychedelic Trance as DJ's, But they also does tours with a full band. I would recommend checking out Their 2003 album Converting Vegetarians. The sound design on that album is out of this world. It's a double album with the first disc being all psy-trance and the second disc is more experimantal stuff. I would check out the opening track Albibeno and Shakawkaw from the 2. disc.

From The burning Man to underground raves and urban areas you can toss a rock and find somebody that'll play an infected mushroom for you.
Personally for me, infected mushroom is just such a fun and energetic group to listen to while you're doing things. I don't have any background in professional music so I'm speaking as a listener.
Normally I find myself listening to these guys while I'm working we're playing video games of course. But I always find their songs to be perfect in the sense that they understand how to keep momentum going and fully energetic while slowing down the tempo and I absolutely love that about them.

  • @tomseaver1496
    @tomseaver1496 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

Another excellent choice mang! These guys are typically classified as psytrance (portmanteau of psychedelic trance), a genre I fell in love with around 2010 when searching for background music to help me write. You keyed right into what got me hooked on IM in your first break, and I love the mix of electronic/digitally generated sounds with acoustic drums and guitars. To my ears, they push that even further on their album “Legend of the Black Shawarma”, which is full of bangers and absolutely worth a listen (“Saaed” just doesn’t quit and “Project 100” and “Franks” are super cool). I could go on, but for all of our sakes I’ll stop here.
These guys (and the genre writ large) aren’t super popular in the states, so in the past they’ve toured in smaller venues (100’s to 1000’s of people), but also perform at huge multi-day festivals like you’re thinking of. Last time they came through NYC they played a theater that holds ~2k.
I’m still here mang and lookin forward to what you listen to next. Awwwright 🤙🤙🤙

For me IM was almost borderline psytrance.. Aaaaand many of their synths are actually vocoder. Their own plugin Manipulator actually does it all. Effects incoming audio per pitch and formant setting and allows you to play it with a midi controller. Including mod and pitch wheel! 😀 which is probably why it feels so analog..

I am an old dude turning 60 soon and been playing guitar since 1977 after seeing Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden. I am also very psychedelic and love all types of electronic music especially bands that add real instruments to the music. Sphongle & Infected Mushroom are two of my favorite bands because I get bored of the traditional sounding instruments you hear on every album. I luckily live in the most psychedelic city on the planet which is Austin TX and saw Infected Mushroom at a local venue about a year ago. Of course I ate a large dose of psilocybin mushrooms before the show which made for a very amazing experience. I sure hope you are still using psychedelics because I am am enjoying them more now at age 60 then when I took my first hit of LSD in 1978 at a Black Sabbath concert. I will be eating mushroom when I am 90 years old in a nursing home and my wheel chair will be decked out in LEDS. And you asked where this music is played. This music is played in all types of venues from small stages at Burning Man to main stages at festivals and local "rave" clubs in every city. My advice Key of Geebz is to get hold of some shrooms, drop a couple of grams, turn on, tune in, drop out and start some psychedelic decomposing. Infected Mushroom are amazing producers and you can can check out their workflow in any of their many videos on YT. Infected Mushroom's only rule in the studio is there are no rules. th-cam.com/video/YJWPcBYqmig/w-d-xo.html. th-cam.com/video/7NaWAuld8JM/w-d-xo.html. And check out Sphongle live in Red Rocks 2019. th-cam.com/video/uRiTKZfsMQQ/w-d-xo.html. They are amazing and worth watching the entire show as It is mindblowing.🍄😎

Got a lot more experimental and it seems they took that into their next albums starting from Vicious Delicious. I don't even know where to start with supplying a list of good songs since there are so many. I thought their latest album (More than Just a Name) was really good too. Prolly has been my favorite band for like 20 years and it's amazing that they still go strong. Also released one of my favorite youtube concerts during the pandemic. I have this album, but when I start my Infected Mushroom playlist, I keep going back to “The Black Shawarma” and looping it so I fall asleep to it and wake up to it. I guess I could say it’s my favorite of theirs.

Don't find many people reacting to infected mushroom. It's a shame because they are really amazing. One of the very few groups that I will forever go back and listen to sooooo many amazing songs. Great music to anything to.

So glad someone recommended these guys to you. Stumbled across them years ago when music streaming services first started up. Always been a fan of finding new music to listen to and at the time was checking out tracks on every new release each week to see if it was worth continuing to listen to the album. As soon as I heard these guys they were added to my library and have been a fan ever since. Thank you for spreading the word to more people.

Funny thing is that the drums are not analog but programmed, they’re true sound wizards, btw this was released on 2007/6, not 1996. Also the leads are indeed synths, long live Erez & Amit!

in terme of dimension everchanging, Milosh of IM is quite interesting. the change are far more subtle, but the result is also on point.
    great react by the way.
and if you want a suggestion in a totaly different direction. i would say Danheim : Darkfolk nords("viking") music
    For exemple Reida by Danheim

Crazy this came out in 2007, simultaneously feels right but also wrong for the time. I was only 8 back then so it feels like such a long time ago when I know it really wasn't, 2017 was just one decade later but I remember 2017 like it basically just happened

Thanks for the video! Love all the breakdowns. One band I’ve never seen is Corrosion of Conformity. They’re incredible, like a bluesy Metallica, and actually spent years touring with Metallica. The lead singer, Pepper Keenan, was also in a band called Down that featured Pantera’s lead singer, Phil Anselmo. For Corrosion of Conformity you can’t go wrong with anything off the Deliverance, Wiseblood or In the Arms of God albums, but I’d suggest “Seven Days,” “Never Turns to More” or “Senor Limpio.”

I remember reading they like being based in the US now because they can get around unknown, because in their native Israel they are too well known. I really like Infected Mushroom Live at KCRW : The Pretender (Foo Fighters Cover). One of the few covers I prefer to the original. Also, 'Smashing the opponent' which has Jonathan Davis from Korn doing the vocals.
Whilst you are going down this path Geebz, it would be cool if you got back to Igorr. I reckon you'd like the video for Igorrr - Himalaya Massive Ritual Recording (so you can see all the instruments they are playing).

The song of theirs called Nation of Wusses (i had to look up the name, i usually just listen to the whole album; never would have guessed that's what it's called) has one of my favorite musical moments of all time. It's only 1 min out of the 7 min track, but the first half gradually builds to it and i find it completely euphoric - it's brought me to tears on several occasions. I agree with others here, though, that I'd love for you to do Becoming Insane - i think it'd be a better fit for this channel and is another of my favs from them.

I have to say, even though so many albums and songs are great, Heavyweight brings back the most memories and feelings.

you seem fairly openminded and knowledgable about basics of edm actually. i'm not well versed in all the sub genres myself. IM has went through so many changes over the years. listening to classical mushroom album and then their most recent stuff it is like an entirely different genre. i love this song but personally i think there is tons of better ones as an introduction like The messenger (original) or dancing with kadafi. they really are extremly diverse. good vid!

I've been listening to this Duo for almost 20 years! Actually, I'm going to see them tomorrow. They typically do their own concerts at music halls or whatnot. IM tends to exist adjacent to rave scene stuff. There's overlap, but it's kind of its own thing.

One of the first albums mixed in 5.1 surround, it has such a wild mix of sounds yet would be best described as electronic classical music, really an engineer's dream type album to review, would love to hear your takes!

Your question around 10:50, but yeah Infected Mushroom plays the glowstick type nightclubs and rave-style music festivals. I'm sure back in the early 2000's they played the old-school rave scene as well! You're spot on about that.
