I'm an audio professional, and I think this plugin is very useful as it gives you huge control over the sound within a simple GUI. I've read some comments, and what people tend to miss before judging the plugin, is the stereo-width control beneath each band-slider which is extremely powerful for mixing and sound-design. It is true, that Izotope Ozone has the same functionalities (only 4 bands though), and you can load the effect-sections as individual plugins (e.g. only the stereo-imaging, EQ or harmonic-exciter). My point is, that Vitamin is 1 plugin/GUI and fast to use. If you don't mind doing "workarounds", you can most most likely achieve something similar by combining various effects in a chain.
Like many other comments : the big default of this plugin is the lack of a "auto-gain compensation" function. It is horribly annoying to click EVERYTIME on the output volume to compensate what I do on this plugin. Otherwise, it is a great plugin by the way
I agree, it make me cringe each time people do demos and they don't compensate with output. its a matter of habit. it takes 2 seconds to reduce and match level. not very hard. its just gain staging basic. but oh well who am I :)
no worry I aint no Internet Troll ;) love your videos and you do a very good job showing the feature, sound, great examples. I too just found this little negative thing.but no big deal. it is doing something great I think anyway :) keep up the good work PTE.
Pro Tools Expert That comment comes across as a little snide; this criticism is a good, constructive criticism that you should consider applying in your future videos. After all, if I just download it and demo it myself, what's the point of watching your video at all?
I like it a lot, as Russ said its easy to go overboard on this , like the Kush Clariphonic. They maintain the mono compatibility very well with the spread, I assume some kind of MS not a delay
Winning. Winning. Winning. There are no, thresh, ratio, or attack controls. This is an easy enhancer!! What the? I am definitely getting this one. All you waves skeptics are crazy if you don't see what this can help with. This will prevent you from having to bring out unnecessary plugins.
Nice. Capable of subtle and not so subtle changes. I must ask--do you know what brand\model of piano was used for that brief recording? Sounded live, as opposed to a sample library.
Hi Russ! I just bought the Waves Vitamin an came across your review looking to gain more knowledge on how to use it. However, I immediately noticed your version has a Bypass function at the top, where mine doesn't. Can I somehow "activate" it? Or is the Bypass function no longer available in the newest version of Vitamin?
you are right , but i do not think you know what is the reason why this plugin was made , it saves me a lot of time , i use an eq on all my intruments then i use this on the master , with a limiter maximize over it , and my mixes turn out very good , this plugin was made to make mastering faster and easier , why is that a bad thing .
Call me weird, but I'd rather use my eq, comp, saturators and stereo enhancers to manipulate the sound the way I want to. These plugin "compilations" look nice but I feel that by using them you'll tend to rely on presets and not even scratch the surface or even try to understand what are you doing and why are you doing it. It kind of sells the idea of "1 magic button to make your mix great", and there's no such thing. Not trying to be hardcore or whatever, I like to spend the mix working on the sound, not on the tools themselves, but I honestly think there's a point where the tool actually gets in the way, like with this one.
Well, here am I one year later watching this review again and found this comment. Gotta say, I now value much more good tools that get you close to where you wanna go quick and easy. I still like to have the basic tools, and ofc learning to use them is a must if you want to understand what you're doing, but these "all-in-one" are great to use while producing sounds and songs, trying out ideas or mixing. I guess I was suffering from the "newbie blindly following the guru's advices" syndrome. The more you learn, the more you realize how much you (and many of these gurus) ignore, and how subjective and biased most opinions are. Maybe products like Vitamin weren't in my radar at the time and I was just being a little biased against them. For now I just have the Scheps Parallel Particles, which is a bit meh, but that guy sure can sell a product. Oh, and I'm getting the Vitamin :)
@@octopusonfire100 I appreciate that you took the time to follow on your comment. FX chains achieve the same thing, or better, or just different. But producers and composers aren't necessarily engineers, and sometimes getting quick results and sending them off to be worked on by pros is better than trying to do everything yourself. Better to focus on creating the music, making it sound great with a few tweaks, then compiling your tracks into stems and sending them off to be mastered. :D
In Ableton Live 32-bit, with nine 96 kHz 24-bit audio tracks, 4min long song, 2% CPU load (no plugins at all). With 6 Vitamins total on different tracks, 7%.CPU load.
Why does it suck all the energy into the middle, even on the tracks that don't have the stereo control narrowed? Surely it's not supposed to do that. Piano and synth and whole mix sounded better without vitamin.
Izotope is overpriced bs. Waves and Plugin Alliance always have awesome deals. And no need for "gainstaging" to hear what a difference this plugin makes.
Cmon waves. Stop re branding and re marketing what we all ready have. A good EQ/multi band compressor. The fabfilter Pro/mb is incredible and is very transparent. I dont work for fabfilter by the way.
I agree, while this seems like a nice plugin, I just don't see why I would want it. Fabfilter Saturn, for example, offers many more features than Vitamin (while being quite similar) and at much better value for money (I also don't work for Fabfilter, haha!)
+AN OUTLAW INLAW You fail. This is NOT a multi band compressor. This enhances the frequency by saturation (and compression). You haven't watched the video, apparently.
And guys!! izotope ozone?!!! really? the thing eats CPU!! I have it!! It eats CPU and is for mastering. You can easily use this plugin on many tracks with no issues.
The explanation of gaining punch through mono-ing mid/bass sounds was a great insight.
This is pretty cool...everyone is saying gimmick but it's not....being able to control the width of each band is very useful.
Fantastic review! Waves should hire you to do their videos! They need serious help advertising.
I Honestly Believe this is the Best Plugin Made for Home Studio Mastering it Works Miracles.
OMG That's what i've always been looking for!
Waves are really rocking out lately.

Otherwise, it is a great plugin by the way

I wouldn't make a judgement without matching the output level to the original's.
Good call, it would have been nice if the output had been pulled back for an accurate comparison. Louder=Better generally when A-Bing.
I agree, it make me cringe each time people do demos and they don't compensate with output. its a matter of habit. it takes 2 seconds to reduce and match level. not very hard. its just gain staging basic. but oh well who am I :)
So download the demo and make a judgement yourself. It should take you a little less time than watching the video.

you guys never cease to amaze me! This great! Going to download demo now.
Thank You, Thank you for demonstrating this incredible well!!!
Lotsa people mentioning Izotope Ozone, but Izotope Alloy 2 does this stuff and can be used on individual tracks.
It sounded great on that acoustic piano. Excellent plugin!
Thanks for this video. Definitely going to purchase this and try it out now

definitely going for this one. Thank's for the review
Waves Vitamin vs Abbey Road Saturator. Which one?
Looks great! It's like a multiband Center :D
looks like you'd need a compressor after vitamin if you push the punch and frequencies pretty hard
Nice. Capable of subtle and not so subtle changes. I must ask--do you know what brand\model of piano was used for that brief recording? Sounded live, as opposed to a sample library.
that's a cool song btw, nice.
By expanding the stereo in the bands, how do you monitor if things are going out of phase?
isn't the band stero control a feature in ozone?
I stopped at waves 7 lol - got more than i could even need/learn - True - this is a c6 with a twist - At some point, how many EQ can you need :P
Nice features
Now only $99 or with the constant sales even $59!! If you just starting producing music, forget the rest and buy this stuff.

The Bypass button is from his DAW, not from the plugin itself.
@@LEYGSL Thanks for letting me know. Such a same Ableton doesn't have this
OMG. I am getting this one ASAP. For definite.
Just an EQ and stereo enhancer will do the same.
you are right , but i do not think you know what is the reason why this plugin was made , it saves me a lot of time , i use an eq on all my intruments then i use this on the master , with a limiter maximize over it , and my mixes turn out very good , this plugin was made to make mastering faster and easier , why is that a bad thing .
i never said its a bad thing, i just said its not absolutely necessary
Will it work only with stereo audio or even mono?
its like manny tone shaper, never knew this...i have this plug in but never used it
thank you
Which piano did you use for demonstration?

Thnx for useful review! Is this Vitamin CPU hungry ?

Jrel That seems to be quite nice. For plugin that is offering quite advanced processing. thnx!
What software did you use to make this video??
some magic from "waves" )))))
Why does it suck all the energy into the middle, even on the tracks that don't have the stereo control narrowed? Surely it's not supposed to do that. Piano and synth and whole mix sounded better without vitamin.
MASTER BUS ?
Hilarious that people call this a gimmick and suggest it's just a copy of a program that costs $400 when this one is only $60
The comments on here are incredible LOL
YOU have LINK DOWLOAD !
"we can start pushing things in and out" -that's what she said
THE THEME SONG OF "TINY WINGS"!!
anyone? :D
I like it except its name and V symbol on GUI.
Looks like the C6

Listen to it carefully, also in solo, you'll getit

Capitalism
If I ever hear the word 'warm' again in regards to audio production, I will slit my wrists. Whoops, I'm bleeding...

hard to tell, really, what it does.... sounds louder, for sure.... but.................
Now we know how to fuckup a mix in 2 min.😀
its just a c4 and c6 added with the s1 dear me waves need to stop these gimmicks
Great, saves me opening 3 plug-ins.
Try using 3 it sounds better
I'm not so sure about that.
Jake Miller hence you just defeated your own comment !!!
Err, no, you implied using three plug-ins to do the job of one sounds better. Which is not true.
Super
I hate when people use instruments to demonstrate a plugin. Use vocals!
I own all waves plugins and use them all the time, but this looks more like a "hype the sound" plugin than a professional tool.
well yah its a harmonic plugin... adds character.... its more on the effect side... but any plugin is professional when its used appropriately... :/
Tried it yesterday. Useful to some extent.
Mmmmluy I
