ScreenPrism Why didn't Marlin never tell Nemo what happened to his mom and his brothers and sisters then Nemo might understand why he does what he does sometimes.
Marlin was a great dad, for sure. But shout out to Dory’s parents who literally created a trail for her to follow to find them again years later.
Roy Thingamajig yep because if I lose my kid I'm gonna leave them a trail so they can find me instead of going to look for them.
You do know her parents lived in an aquarium all their lives, right? They had no idea where to begin in a vast ocean but they did know that Dory liked seashells so should she ever come back and see the seashells she could make her way back to her parents. Its no different than kids who are kidnapped or run away from home. The parents are told to stay home should their child return.
some dude that makes videos, like what they said; they had no idea where to begin in a vast ocean due to them living in an aquarium all their lives. the same aquarium. so they most likely didn't know where the pipes lead to. by then, i figure that they thought that they might as well do what they still could do as her parents, since they still didn't want to sit there and do nothing despite them not having any idea of what they should do. Yes, they probably could have gone about it a better way, but parents aren't perfect, no matter how hard they try for their child.
it would have been so logical to be a helicopter parent but they let her be her own even while worrying.

All Disney or Pixar movies have inspirational messages at their core that you overlook as a kid, but really speak to you when you get older. "Finding Nemo" is a movie that I really relate to. It shows how parents can try to protect their child from the scary dangers of the world, but by excessively overprotecting them, this can result in the child becoming insecure of their own abilities. Although it can be hard to let them go, as long as you show that you trust them to navigate the world, and to take occasional tricky risks, they will be able to tackle whatever life has in store. "Just keep swimming"! 🐠🐟♥️

This is amazing!!! Parents have no idea how much this psychologically affects someone into adulthood, never trusting yourself until you’re made aware of it
When I was 11, this movie came out. At the time, my dad had to live far away from us for his job, for an entire year. But he made a 5-hour drive almost every other weekend, because that's just how much he loved us. My mother was a sub-par parent and my dad was everything to me, so it was difficult. I also have a disability so he was protective of me. I watched this movie at the theatre with a bunch of girls from my hockey team, and I fell in love with it. I called my dad later that evening to tell him about this movie. I told him that I saw a movie about us. He soon went and watched that movie in a theatre by himself, and told me he felt the exact same way. He'd search the entire world just to find me. And he'd never let anything bad happen to me. I'll never forget that sentiment. He died a few years back. This movie helps me remember how great of a parent he truly was.

Great video, it really explores parenthood really well. It seems many parents suffer from seeing their kids as an extension of themselves, rather than a whole being separate from them. You see parents forcing their religion, general beliefs and even careers on their kids. Completely disregarding the fact that their child is a person with a mind of their own. You do a good job covering this topic with Finding Nemo.
Religion teaches good ethics when taught by someone who truly believe and actually truly understand what their religion means, of course it is often twisted by those who want to control or manipulate others.
Luna Lovegood good ethics came from religion, nothing from the natural world teaches good ethics, the natural world teaches you that cruelty is the go to reaction for living beings and you either survive or you don't. All of our good ethics laws are based from religion rules.
Luna Lovegood back in the dark age pretty much everybody was part of some sort of church, then some families have a disagreement with the church head and leave the church, and these families still see the value of good ethics and strive to keep teaching them.

This is false. Good ethics existed before religion. Firstly, what religion are you even talking about? There are hundreds of thousands of religions that have come and gone. Which one created good ethics? Are you honestly saying they were no good people before religion came along? Are you that ignorant? Being kind, being against murder and theft, sharing etc have all existed since the dawn of humanity. If it didn't none of us would exist today. It's literally in our DNA and in nature. If we didn't have these things embedded in us then humanity would have collapsed 1000 years into it's existence. Good ethics existed long before humans decided to make religions.

This reminds me of my dad who passed away a couple months ago. He was very adamant about trying to not let his past effect him and me be my own person.

This was the first movie I saw in cinema. I was six years old and the themes of trying to find your independence as a child really resonated with me. I’ve also started to find that the themes of parenthood are becoming more relatable as I get older. Oh, it’s also the first movie I peed myself at.
I feel like I ruined the moment.
Rachie And The Waves It's one of my top Disney movies as well. When you're a kid, you just take in the vibrant colours and adventure story, but as an adult, you resonate more with the message of the story, and identify with Marlin more.

They make it very clear in the movie that Marlin is too strict and overly protective over Nemo and that he needs to trust Nemo to make his own decisions and give him more freedom, and that this is what caused Nemo to get mad and go "touch the butt".

I really needed this. This video analysis on one of my favorite movies as a child really helped me realize why I am what I am today as a 16 year old. My mom was the overprotective parent for a number of reasons. I used to see her as a super hero, but as I grew up and saw she was guarding me more from opportunities than from actual danger, I started to breed resentment for her rather than the outside world. As I am getting closer to go off to college, I am thinking of going far away. She knows that, and I think that's why she letting me go more and more. She says she is scared I will go off into the world to do big things, and never come back.
Right now I am sobbing from this realization that so much of my life can be encapsulated from this movie. My mom used to keep me in the house all the time, so I watched TV often. Possibly Dory is the reason why so many people in my life describe me as optimistic. All of Pixar's films are great, and as I watch these video essays from your channel, I realize I took on a lot of my favorite characters attitudes towards life so I can apply them to my own. Thank you for leading me to this realization. :)
Very appropriate for Father's day. Your both very good at looking at movies on a deeper, analytical scale. Finding Nemo is a 'Family' Film for a reason.
I was kind of hoping you would go into more depth about Gill's role in the film as well, because I feel like he's just as important to the message of good parenting as Marlin is. Kids who have troublesome home lives and bad parental relationships will often look for alternative families and role models outside their birth families, and while they are sometimes successful, their desire for affection and inability to understand proper boundaries makes them vulnerable to people who are bad influences and take advantage of others. Initially, Gill is one of these people. He is so desperate to get out of the tank that he is willing to put Nemo's life in danger to do so, and nearly gets Nemo killed. While he's not nearly so ruthless as to let Nemo die or to brush off the impact of his actions, and is able to redeem himself, he still signifies the dangers of not maintaining a healthy relationship with your child. Nemo was lucky Gill turned out to be a decent person (fish), because other kids aren't as lucky. These kids fall victim to criminals who promise them the affection balanced with independence and trust that the kids desire, and these kids end up becoming criminals themselves or getting hurt, killed and enslaved.

My mom is strict and overprotective, so all she got from this movie is "See? If you don't listen to your parents you get lost and get put in danger." lol
Which is what makes Finding Nemo a masterpiece, for parents and all other audiences.
For boys in particular, if taken to a deranged extreme, that kind of forced dependency creates an Oedipus complex (in turn it affects the son’s ability to have relationships with women).
If we wanna take that quote to a more sadistic evil extreme, it’s equivalent to “See? That’s how the world works, and I’m the only person you can trust.”

Funny how my parents loved this movie when I was a kid, yet clearly took nothing from it. Smh lol

I was never into 3D animation with the start of Toy Story and took a LONG while until I got hooked and finally let go of my prejudice since I was a 2D animation lover. And having a story where a parent is the main protagonist was a huge mind blowing story for me. And such a touching experience that many parents and sons and daughters could relate to. And I became a Pixar lover ever since. :)
I was also not a big fan of 3D animation as a kid, with the exception of some Pixar and DreamWorks movies, like this one. In my defense though, it was mainly because 3D animation was kinda new and a lot of 3D movies from the 2000s looked very wonky and even creepy to me as a kid (90s 3D animation too especially).

Okay, so this clearly isn't any of you two speaking here, the voice is different and the talking is a little slow - Are you a group of three now?
Some comments are complaining about it but if it is a new "face", it totally makes sense that she's still practicing, she'll get the hang of it soon :)
One thing though, the new team member tries an awful lot to imitate Susannah which sounds quite weird. Go with your own flow, I bet everyone's gonna like it just as much~
I truly believe that Marlin's is the best character arc in all of film!

Ee've always though the whole movie was underappreciated as just "a kids film", meanwhile people praise *MUCH* less better films like the Don Bluth films made throughout the early to mid 1990s, the Sony movies, Illumination Entertainment films and most live-action remakes (exclusion: The Jungle Book) for the same reason.

Check out The Wild. It’s got a finding Nemo plotline but the parental problems are somewhere on the opposite end of the spectrum. Samson strives to be a hero figure to his son Ryan, but the image he acquires makes Ryan insecure over his own being. Moreover, Samson tries to hide his true past from his son out of fear that his last bit of family will be disappointed in him as his own father was and also trying to protect his son from the wild where he has never been.

Another great video, but I somehow feel a little cheated by this. In my opinion, Marlin doesn't remember his lesson in "Finding Dory". He acts just as neurotic and anxious as he did in the first film, except he acts out more on Dory and pushes her away. It's like he forgot most of what he learned from his last adventure (he was so reluctant to go on another run), and even craps on Nemo again. Yes, he does become more trusting with his son, but he still acts like an ass to Dory.
