- The Stella Cinema Mount Merrion opened in 1955 as a sister cinema to the Stella in Rathmines. The original capacity was 1000 seats. The cinema closed in 1976 and subsequently opened as Flanagan's of Mount Merrion (a landmark furniture store). Flanagan's occupied the building until they closed circa 2011. The building lay empty until Flanagan's moved back in circa 2016. The building was vacated in 2018 and demolished in February 2019.

Welcome back. I always enjoy your work. I look forward to seeing more from you. Thank you for such great videos, this one especially.
Great to see you uploading again. This one almost felt like a horror film with all the pigeons!
Thanks! Yes - this was nothing but pigeons coming out of nowhere and flying right beside my head.
@@thebettyfordclinic why don’t you not post any more
Sorry to say it has been demolished as of today... why was it not preserved?
Very happy to see you uploading, long time fan. Where have ya been though!
The Stella was our local cinema and I remember they closed the downstairs - we thought it was a cost cutting exercise. One Saturday we waited until the staff closed the ticket/shop and went upstairs to keep an eye on things. We then bunked in downstairs and watched the movie. It wasn't until a few weeks later we heard they had a rat infestation downstairs. Still to this day I could've sworn I felt something running across my shoes! Conor (formally of North Ave)
