I am the opposite and always have been. I like the old stuff, and I use it until it literally falls apart. All of the old stuff is made so much better. I hunt thrift stores for older products that are solid wood, real metal, and no plastic. I use glass jars and vintage enamelware for food storage. My concession is ziploc bags, for freezer storage sometimes. We do use Amazon because we live far from many retail markets. I have noticed that there are a lot less boxes, and more heavy bags that are much less waste. I think we can all do better though.
My dad had a saying, you need to like it when it's old because you'll have it longer old than you will new. He was born 1931, hard times, learned a skill, worked hard. He saved and invested. He died a millionaire (on paper). Went out of this world in a rented casket(cremated) and thrift store clothes. Modest and humble and never forgot where he came from.
I follow a couple on you tube who live in Scotland and in their community they have a store that sells household products in bulk. You bring your own containers and fill up with things like shampoo conditioner laundry soap cooking oil and lots more. I think it’s a great idea.
George Carlin said it best,"We've all got too much stuff!". Thrift stores ,fixing and reusing are the ways to embrace "our stuff!". Merry Christmas Adelina! All the best in 2025! Listen to your favourite music, have a favourite drink and count your blessings! Cheers,Sandy🎉
Thank you for educating us. Don’t worry about your links and what you are telling are useful to you. The last time I looked I still had free will if you’re educated, you can make a better decision about what you’re buying. All you can do is give us the information. Some people will use the information and others will ignore it. I will be one of those that you reached and will be more mindful. Thank you so much.😊
*My grandma had these Pedestal Fans they must have been from the 70's they were brown and gold. They lasted for decades. She got rid of them in 1999 even though they were still working. I brought an $80 metal fan 2 years ago and it's already crapped itself.... my mum had her huge Sharp microwave from the mid 80's up until 2010 and it was still working. She only got rid of it because they make microwaves tiny now and the cutout in her new kitchen was too small*
I watched that documentary and was overwhelmed by all the waste! Been more aware of my spending habits since. I hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas!!
It was eye opening to me. I remember when appliances lasted decades, if my dad couldn't fix something he just called a guy who could. My daughter drove me nuts when I held onto a tv from the 90's that worked fine, I told her I am not just going to buy a flatscreen until I need it. I love how phone companies will make a big deal about being eligible for an upgrade. I'm not buying a new phone until I can no longer use the old one.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this video. I'd never heard of it and so glad I watched it. It is eye opening and definitely makes me think about my consumption and how I can do better. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas 😊
For the passed four years my daughter has given natural shampoo and conditioner in bar form. There by eliminating the plastic containers. Now need to start using laundry sheets to avoid the same problem.
I've seen several of those documentaries on the fast fashion industry, and it goes so much deeper than clothing. I think MORE such documentaries need to be made, AS WELL AS documentaries about people who are finding more and more ways to recycle/reuse/repurpose and make GOOD use of "garbage," such as plastic and used clothing. I've seen a number of those programs as well, and they are very inspiring.
Thanks to you, I ordered the little emergency radio and send it with a friend all the way to South Africa. (My Mom fell and ended up in frail care with no access to a phone or radio) I don't use Prime and I usually choose free shipping if its available. So we were very grateful for your recommendation!!❤
Yes, I watched that documentary and the visuals are shocking, but it is something that I have been worried about for many years and was glad that it is out there and maybe will make things change!❤
Thanks Adelina for this reminder. I always fear i waste too much...and I'm just me. I try not to, I really do. But I know I can do better. We all can, and should. Merry Christmas to you, Shiloh and Sophie! 🎄❤️🐾
Great conversation. I agree with everything you said and information is power. Have a very merry Christmas Adelina and don’t beat yourself up too much. We all need to change our habits for the better.❤️❤️🇨🇦
Merry Christmas and thanks for sharing! My husband works in waste management & he sees lots of milk jugs, etc. being buried in land fill, even though we get a refund for them in Alberta if we take them to bottle depots. It’s so sad that there hasn’t been more things reused. I’m a 50’s girl & hang onto things for so long! I do donate reusable items to thrift stores & buy most of my outer clothing second hand. I love the soft old cottons! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦🌲
So many are of the "instant gratification" mindset today, that they are a marketer's dream. I am not going to watch this until after the holiday. I already have sleeping issues. LOL Merry Christmas to you and yours, Adelina. Enjoy your time with Shiloh. Hope Sophie has a special treat under the tree just for her.
I saw this documentary before. I have wished for years that Americans would create a "No Buy Day" ... literally nothing is purchased for one day. What a wakeup call to Corporations if we could do that. But we are addicted...I spent $100 on Christmas for family. I'm Done. I'm a full-time van dweller (3 yrs) and use very little. I have opted out of as much as I can.
Merry Christmas! I have not seen the documentary but it sounds like a good one. I think we can all agree that we need to be aware and do better. Thank you.
I did watch this documentary and it was mind blowing. The phrase “there is no away” also made me really think. The way garbage and recycling of clothes are packed up and shipped “away” just made me feel ill. We think we are doing so good when we recycle but the reality is not so pleasant unfortunately. Very good documentary and I recommend it also! 🤯👍🏻
I haven't seen the documentary, but you got me interested. Hope you and Sophie have a very Merry Christmas with your family! Wishing you the best in 2025!
Hi Adelina! Videos with info like this are invaluable. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on it. It's an important message the world needs to act on. Have a wonderful Christmas holiday with Shiloh and Sophie!! ❤😊Sue
So agree with you on the waste in our society. We try to recycle as much as possible but like you said even recycling is not being done efficiently. This world is all about consumerism and the places like amazon and temu exploit that even more. As we age we need less and less but are bombarded daily through facebook, tv, videos, gaming etc with adds to buy buy buy. I think we need to as a society speak up about this excessive advertising and reduce the time we spend on social media etc. I believe this strategy of keeping us busy and occupied is a ploy to keep us from seeing what is really happening in our world controlled by big corporations and politicians. Do what you can and feel good about that, because every little bit helps but all of society needs to step up and take notice to effect a real change. Merry Christmas to you and your family and looking forward to many more topics of conversation.
Very eye opener. The fact is that expecting these companies to do the right thing is naive. It is up to us to inflict change, if we are not buying, there will be no need to produce
I totally hear you! I did not see the documentary but have vastly reduced my mail ordering and other purchasing to reduce my waste. Its hard! But also is reducing my overall spending as well. Have a very joyous Christmas with your family! All we can do is the best we can do. I agree.. support companies who support the environment.
You are on a very good subject. I agree with you so much on this. I received a box from Amazon. And, yes, it was in 2 boxes. Why? I love to thrift, but there is so much at the stores and they want so much per each item. Why? We donate to these shops and they have no room to put anything else. I have a storage that I pay each month. I want to go through it and donate 99 percent of it. But, where can I take it? The waste yards are overflowing. Thank you for listing to me ramble. I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas. 🎄❤
Interesting topic today. I agree with you 💯 that we need to educate ourselves then do our best to make the changes we can. We can’t do it all but many people doing 1 thing can add up to a big change. Have a wonderful holiday with Shiloh and Sofie!! All the best and lots of love into the new year 🎄😻🥰🙏
I so agree with your thoughts, Adelina. I try always to repair rather than replace, repurpose rather than discard, and save packaging to reuse. One thing I’d like to start in 2025 is to write a letter of complaint to a manufacturer for either using too much packaging or not using recyclable materials in their packaging. Wish me luck….
We have all been brainwashed about recycling, yet I still do it. My community has removed more and more from what they'll accept so more of what I do goes into the landfill. You're right - each of us must do what we can, and the idea of buying less is just a smart move anyway. I haven't seen the documentary, but will try to do so. I've been reading in this for quite a bit tho. Happy Christmas to you, Shiloh, and Sophie!! I hope your holiday is great.
I think I’ll definitely wait until after the holidays to watch this and as much as a part of me would rather stay in ignorant bliss… I can’t! Have a very Merry Christmas with Shiloh and Sophie.Love & hugs. ❤️🎄🎅🏻
I have not seen this but I will watch it tonight when I go to work. Thank you for discussing this 😊. And I am going to make a pie this week. Never thought about using the crust for the topper! Definitely going to do this. Merry Christmas and enjoy time spent with your daughter ❤️🎄🎄
I watched the documentary. And I have to agree. The amount of consumption was overwhelming, and the disposing of the consumption was eye-opening and disturbing as well. My future purchasing will be more thoughtful and deliberate. I believe taking things back to the basics will be helpful for me with food, consumption of household cleaning products, plastics, and paper products as well. I know personally, there are many products I purchased in the past that I will not be purchasing going forward. I will find a different way to reuse products. or create when I can. All changes start with oneself first and then suggestions to others on how and what you did to make those changes. May I make a suggestion? Maybe you can do a monthly video on what you and your subscribers suggest to do or things they created or ideas with their personal consumption. Specifics, I think would be helpful. For example, instead of me using paper napkins, and paper towels, I plan to use cloth napkins, and cloth towels that I can wash instead of throw away. That’s just one change I’m going to make. There will be several more. And I’m always open to new ideas and suggestions.
We, as a human race, are so gullible. The Power of suggestion and acceptance of convenience has always been our downfall. It is up to us to be consciously diligent in our choices and mindful of our needs. The power of marketing will always exist. We can only control what we do or buy. Have a good holiday Adelina 😊
Thank you for sharing. Always love to learn and appreciate you sharing. I love you and hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and the most wonderful holidays! Hi Shilo! Sorry about the spelling if I spelled it wrong!😊
I am thankful I am frugal, and don’t buy many clothes all mine fit in half a closet. I also try to make from scratch and we were laughing at using my food processor which I received for wedding gift 47yrs ago. My husband is doing better but still more a consumer than I am. I often think of Stompin Tom song the consumer they call us. I wish the laundry washing sheets weren’t as expensive as yes a lot of waste in the detergent bottles. When buying from amazonI wait 3 days and if i haven’t been yes that item is something I need then I don’t buy it , definitely not an impulse buyer. I hope you have a great visit with Shiloh and a very Merry Christmas!❤
I have been looking at this "waste" and over abundance for some time. I know that convenience is is society's way of doing things but I been having a difficult time with wasting. I compost most of my food scraps, paper towel rolls , toilet rolls and as much as I can. My city has now begun accepting bones and other difficult to compost items, weekly. I really appreciate this. As far as new items that I don't really need but might want I have to talk to myself about those. I also have a hard time with Amazon's packaging . It really makes me mad that they over kill on this. I am trying not to buy from them but it is hard. So the struggle goes on...Have a wonderful Holiday with your child.
Haven't seen the documentary yet but will watch over the Christmas. I stopped using Amazon this year but I live in a huge city so have lots of options. It takes a bit more research to buy from other places than Amazon but for me it's worth it. I also buy my beauty products from zero waste shop so that cuts down on packaging and price as well. I try to repair items or reuse them for my art projects.
Happy holidays to you! i try not to buy anything I don't need and to avoid A-zon, but it is hard. I have my mom's washer and dryer, working great - she passed away in 1995 and they were a few years old then. I will say, you being a vegan is really doing a huge part in making the world a better place. I'm not 100% there yet but definitely a vegetarian since 1985.
:) THANKS MUCH for sharing! I don't have Netflix, but I understand what you are saying as Marketers have ALWAYS tried to make us THINK we need something :( The planned obsolescance is terrible ! We fall prey to the practices and convenience, but really don't need many things. ALL the BEST and ENJOY you time with Shiloh, and have a GREAT Christmas! Cheers : )
I do love Bulk Barn's 'bring your own container' policy. I see Amazon is using more paper packaging now over the white plastic. Hope? :) Merry Christmas to you and yours Adelina!
I try not to buy things unless I need them, too. I have a lot of antique furniture that I refuse to replace, lol. I was never into fast fashion, I still wear my winter coat that I got in 2005! I recently switched to shampoo and conditioner bars and they are great! My hair is curly just like yours. I used Ethique bars for a while and they were good. I recently just got some Earthling Co bars and I like them a bit better. Wishing you and your kids (and Sophie!) a Merry Christmas! 🎄
I sort of giggled when you told us about your mother in law and her dryer. My husband has had his washer and dryer for about 40 years. I was going to purchase a new set a couple of years ago because they do require maintenance which he happily does. I just felt that the new washer and dryer were more energy efficient. So my dreams of an updated pair of washer and dryer were squashed. I just go to the parts store with him as he orders the necessary replacement part and know he is right. We are both retired now so we also have more time to repair things. My secret pleasure is to look at the new ones at Home Depot knowing that they wouldn’t last that long as everything is made so badly these days. You are right getting new things is nice but are we really getting better?
A few years ago Netflix also had a documentary called “the social dilemma” . Same vein but about what social media does to us on purpose. I was very disturbed. I might skip this one, I already go to the bull barn with my jars and fill them up so as to avoid packaging. I will wear something until it no longer has anything to give, until my partner says “we have to burn those jeans”. I have learned that zero waste is not achievable, and trying to be zero waste will just drive me crazy. So I just think low waste and do as much as I can and it lets me sleep at night. Also. China is the biggest producer of waste. So when I can’t sleep at night I remind myself that Chinese markets open up soon and people there will put a single banana in a plastic bag. A single piece of fruit of any kind is often bagged. Go to any Asian supermarket and you can see what I mean. It’s awful. Do what you can. Merry Christmas!
I think about this stuff a lot. It's a very disturbing topic. Living in a rural area, I have to get almost everything shipped or I would have to drive long distances which I'm not up to doing. My county recently stopped most of its limited recycling because it cost too much money to ship it away. On another note, I read this morning that many of the brands of tea that come in tea bags have microplastics in the bags & adhesives. Yikes! 😥
Merry Christmas, Adelina and Sophie. I think a lot would stick in my head if I watched that, too. I don't have Netflix but I have watched a similar documentary on this topic which was a real eye opener too. I'm thankful I'm on a minimalist journey and live in a very small apartment with limited space for extra storage. You mentioned making some changes...I was wondering what type of things do you think you'll do to make changes in your daily life? Enjoy your Christmas with your family. 😊
Hi Kelly! I'm going to take a little while to think it through and see what changes I can make. I want to be deliberate and thoughtful so they stick. Merry Christmas!
@myBIGtinyhouselife Good plan. You have a creative and great problem solving mind! I'd love to hear your ideas after you've thought things over, as I'm sure a lot of your wonderful followers would like to hear too... 😊
Have a lovely holiday season! Love the rain on the roof, we don't hear it in our house, but when we put on a new roof, soon, I hope it will be metal so we can hear the rain! We haven't joined the consumer culture, have always done as much for ourselves as we can, which has slowly increased over time, more so after retirement now that we have more time. I shop at the local grocery store for sale items. We buy food in bulk from distributors, 50 lb bags, which comes in paper bags, so we have greatly reduced plastic waste, we store in glass jars. We can, dehydrate, ferment, etc. so that we don't have cans or glass jars to through out, and we wash plastic food bags (e.g. milk bags, bread bags) and reuse, so we only buy biodegradable garbage bags. My biggest pet peeve is medications and dietary supplements, 30 tiny little pills in a plastic container that would hold 3000 of them, ridiculous, and no other options. We cannot buy kitchen equipment we need locally, our lifestyle is niche, items must be ordered. We buy directly from companies for larger items, whenever feasible, e.g. flour mill. But smaller items must come through Amazon, so we use it a lot, although if we want to spend four times as much we can pick up some things from the Canadian Tire store. We also enjoy Prime as our main source of entertainment, other than library books and videos we own on DVD. Right now I am still eating our garden squash, every day for lunch, but that will be gone by the new year and we will resort to our canned vegetables for sustenance. I don't know anyone who lives the way we do, cooking from scratch, mending clothes, gardening, preserving, eating in season, fixing rather than buying, keeping old stuff because we might need it (we almost always do eventually), etc. This is an isolating lifestyle, we just do our thing and the rest of the world around us just keeps getting more concerning.
You could live in your "safe comfortable little bubble of believing" ----- they call this blissful ignorance. Sadly, we all are guilty of this till you know. And once you know, you can't "unknow" Thanks for this Adelina. Merry Xmas.
People almost never buy what they need. People buy what they want. When I get in a situation where I think I need something ,I ask myself, what would grandma do and I usually make something g different or use a different ingredient.
I haven't seen the documentary yet, but have seen similar ones. It can make you crazy if you end up second-guessing every purchase you make. I decided a while back that there are some environmental (and ethical) stands I want to take, and the rest are not my battles to fight. So, I don't eat meat, don't shop at places that blatantly don't share my values, and I don't buy things frivolously. What I'm done using, I try to donate over tossing it "away" and I avoid plastics like the plague. I'm not the poster child for environmentalism, but I'm sure I've cut my consumption by 10-20% over the average person. Maybe more. If we all aimed for that--in our own way--we'd make a substantial dent in the problem. Merry Christmas and enjoy Shiloh's visit!!!!
In the UK a chef called Hugh Fernley Wittingstall made a documentary like this a few years ago. What was shocking was that councils, who thought they had done the right thing by employing a Waste Disposal Company found that their waste had ended up in piles in a 3rd world country!
I am going to watch it. It's really too bad that they could somehow get the companies make better packaging. Remember when VHS tapes were big. My niece bought every Disney movie that came out for her kids, and then all of a sudden we had other forms of watching movies. What a huge waste and all the money that was spent.
That is really smart of you to put the pie crust on top👍. I hope you have a good Christmas and I hope you get to see both of your kids during the holiday season. I heard a while ago that China likes to buy our garbage and makes things out of it. And sells it back to us. I don't know about other countries garbage. According to the story I heard it was only U.S. garbage. I think it was on 60 minutes. Which a news program in the USA.
I haven’t watched but I have been trying to stop creating so much waste. I am particularly trying not to buy things in plastic bottles. I use bar shampoo and soap and laundry detergent that comes packed in cardboard. Continuing to try to figure out other things I can switch out
I have been saying to people for years- there is no away. Things have been made to be "disposable" for the last few decades. I have used shampoo and conditioner bars along with bar soap for a couple of years now because there are no plastic bottles involved. The issue does exist and yes learning about it the extent of it is shocking and it takes time to absorb the immensity of the problem. But we can only do what we can do. As far as packaging- when I received a box of a product I ordered I take that box and bubble wrap and put my items to donate to our local thrift store in it with the wrap as they use it to wrap glassware etc for customer purchases. We can't stop buying things overnight but we can use such documentaries as reminders to be more mindful of our actions and to understand how we are being used as pawns in corporate games. We can choose not to play as often and learn more about what we actually need. I also purchase what I need from thrift stores as well if I can. Just you moving into a tiny home took a big chunk of materialism out of your lifestyle which few people do.
We definitely need more docs like this. You may also want to watch Food Inc.about our food supply. But instead of beating ourselves up for allowing ourselves to brainwashed these docs help to empower ourselves and our choices.
Haven’t seen the documentary not sure I will now, lol. Like you said ignorance is bliss, but I am aware of the waist and the disposable society that we live in. I think I’m too frugal to be wasteful. I try to leave as little a footprint as I can. I’m a great fan of, thrift stores and recycling, old wooden furniture that shows its age. This year, my boyfriend and I decided that we were going to only shop at the thrift store for our Christmas presents. It made it a lot more fun and exciting. I don’t think I’m even capable of buying anything at full price now. The hunt for a bargain is both challenging and satisfying.
If youve ever worked in a package delivery environment, youd understand why theres multiple layers of packaging. The packages get thrown, dropped, and abused before they arrive at your residence. The same people complaining about excessive packaging are the sane ones complaining their product arrived broken...more waste!
I ordered bamboo toothbrushes from Amazon. I figured they'd be better for the environment than plastic toothbrushes. However they arrived in an envelope lined with bubble wrap, which is not recyclable. I was so ticked off. For this and many other reasons I am trying not to order from Amazon anymore. By the way if you buy less, you save a lot of money. That's my experience anyways. I hope that you and Shiloh have a lovely Christmas.
That Netflix special had me shook. My husband is from Ghana and the fact that we are using 3 world countries as a garbage dump is infuriating. I have changed a few things from seeing that special. I’m doing a low buy year for 2025 and cancelled my Amazon subscription. If I really NEED it I’ll pay the motherf’ing shipping. I took inventory of all the products inside in my house and am going to use every last drop before I buy another. I also put a little spatula in my tooth brush holder to scoop every drop. I used a menstrual cup when I was still having periods and my daughters now use the reusable/washable pads and they love them. They hated the period underwear but really enjoy the cloth washable pads. I used to buy pads every month. Now I buy one big box and it lasts all year because they only use the disposables when they have to go out to something important. I’m vegan and only my husband is not. The girls eat vegan mostly. We are going to follow the rule- use it up wear it out, make do or do without.
I'm also doing many of the things you mention. I totally agree that it's sickening to learn that our garbage is shipped to other countries. 🤬. Thank you for all that you're doing. We can each make changes.
I think I would like to watch this video. I believe I may be an Amazon addict ☹️ getting ready to take stuff to the thrift store I. Fact to make room for “new” purchases. ☹️
I did not buy gifts this year, no one needs a thi g, we get together have a meal play games and each day is a gift all buy it's self. I will not by into this consumer ism any more. They start putting christmas decorations in the stores before Halloween. Rediculas
I consider myself a fairly competent baker but I, like you, cannot manage to make a great pie crust. I therefore hate making them and am not motivated to try. I try very hard to reuse and not throw away. I’m very sensitive to the amount of garbage we are making and I continually lament these thro away products we are being presented with. Where does it stop.
Thank you for your thoughts on Buy Now. It was appalling. It was supposed to be an eye opener. I try to be better. Some of the advertising and marketing should be curtailed. We should not be able to ship our waste overseas. More movies should be made to show that normal characters can live and thrive with less. People need to be spoon fed information that they might find unpalatable, when delivered as facts. Thanks again for highlighting this film on our overconsumption.
I live in a city, I recycle and found out that most of the items are not . I'm troubled by it but not letting this rule my thoughts. I will be as respectable as I can to the world as I can. I by mostly thrift. Take care Merry Christmas.
Yes. I started to watch that documentary a bit ago and was so mortified and guilty and uncomfortable, I couldn’t watch it to the end😢. Being fairly comfortable and aware means living in some angst and guilt, doesn’t it? It’s kind of the price we pay for our comfort. I think about the fact that living in Ukraine or Gaza, there would be life and death issues to consider instead. Too heavy, sorry. Appreciate you. Peace and love.
People buy too much junk! Stuff they don't need. Then when they retire or want to retire they have no savings. To me it's two fold. Then that recycling ♻️ BS is something that's been very upsetting 😡. The recycling hoax that we think all of are recycling is recycled. 😢
Yes, there is no "away". My personal answer to that fact is frugality. I don't shop on Amazon unless there is no other possibility (recently I had to buy a fan for a 8 year old computer, and couldn't find it anywhere else), but it happened maybe 2 or 3 times in the last decade, and only to buy things to repair objects I already had. Stuff is not what makes us happy. But cuddling with Sophie is, or making a pie for Shiloh. I wish you and your loved ones a very happy Holidays. PS : I don't know if you're aware that YT automatically translated the title and the description of you video, and it's pretty annoying. I don't know if you can fix that though. It seems according to the description that your video is also auto dubbed in some languages (not in French at least). This can be fixed in the advanced settings in YT Studio.
Yes I watched that Documentary & thought it was disturbing but I have often wondered how the planet earth is going to be able to contain all of our human debris & garbage. I also want to try to buy less packaged items. I hope some younger intelligent person will invent easily biodegradable packaging for all of the items we consume from food to toiletries and cleaning items etc.
Thank you for sharing. ☺️🎄
@@lynnloehr1566 I have a whole home full..haha!
Thank you for sharing your dad's story. He sounds a lot like my dad ❤️.
I follow a couple on you tube who live in Scotland and in their community they have a store that sells household products in bulk. You bring your own containers and fill up with things like shampoo conditioner laundry soap cooking oil and lots more. I think it’s a great idea.
I agree!
Love the sound of rain in the background!!! A wise lesson to us all! Merry Christmas Adelina! Enjoy your visit with Shiloh!!
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
George Carlin said it best,"We've all got too

Wow! Great idea for using the second crust as a topper - never thought of that - I will definitely watch this video!
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
I watched Buy Now and it was a true eye opener, glad you mentioned it.
I watched that documentary and was overwhelmed by all the waste! Been more aware of my spending habits since. I hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas!!
Thank you, you too!
Good for you! 😁
Merry Christmas. Enjoy the time with your daughter.
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
🙏💫👍Thank you for sharing this inspiring message
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this video. I'd never heard of it and so glad I watched it. It is eye opening and definitely makes me think about my consumption and how I can do better.
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas 😊
You too!
For the passed four years my daughter has given natural shampoo and conditioner in bar form. There by eliminating the plastic containers. Now need to start using laundry sheets to avoid the same problem.
I need to try the bar versions.
Happy Hogmanay 🎆 👍🏴Jan x
Thanks to you, I ordered the little emergency radio and send it with a friend all the way to South Africa. (My Mom fell and ended up in frail care with no access to a phone or radio) I don't use Prime and I usually choose free shipping if its available. So we were very grateful for your recommendation!!❤
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you! 🎄
Yes, I watched that documentary and the visuals are shocking, but it is something that I have been worried about for many years and was glad that it is out there and maybe will make things change!❤
I think it's a start. One person at a time I suppose 🤷🏻♀️🤔.
Thanks Adelina for this reminder. I always fear i waste too much...and I'm just me. I try not to, I really do. But I know I can do better. We all can, and should. Merry Christmas to you, Shiloh and Sophie! 🎄❤️🐾
Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄❤️
Great conversation. I agree with everything you said and information is power. Have a very merry Christmas Adelina and don’t beat yourself up too much. We all need to change our habits for the better.❤️❤️🇨🇦
Happy Holidays to you too! ☺️🎄🇨🇦
Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦🌲
It's so sad that there isn't more reusing happening. It's so important to be mindful of our waste and what we're putting in landfills.
Just watched 😢. Don’t think I’ll sleep tonight. I know it definitely has impacted how I view my purchases.
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
Merry Christmas Adelina !🌲🧑🎄❄️☃️
Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
Love the idea of a nationwide “no buy day”. I would participate.
Merry Christmas! I have not seen the documentary but it sounds like a good one. I think we can all agree that we need to be aware and do better. Thank you.
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
I love all of your videos! Look forward to them every weekend. I hope you and Shiloh have a great visit and a very Merry Christmas!
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
Thanks for sharing this. Ive been on a mission to try to improve my consumption as well! Happy Holidays!🎉
Thank you! Happy Holidays to you too 🎄.
I haven't seen the documentary, but you got me interested. Hope you and Sophie have a very Merry Christmas with your family! Wishing you the best in 2025!
Thank you. You too! 🎄
🌸 Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄
Hi Adelina! Videos with info like this are invaluable. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on it. It's an important message the world needs to act on. Have a wonderful Christmas holiday with Shiloh and Sophie!! ❤😊Sue
Thank you Sue, Happy Christmas to you too!
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
Very eye opener. The fact is that expecting these companies to do the right thing is naive. It is up to us to inflict change, if we are not buying, there will be no need to produce
Merry Christmas to you and Shiloh, Sophie too! I haven't seen the documentary yet, will put it on my list to watch. Have a great holiday season 🎄 ❤
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
Merry Christmas to you too ☺️🎄.
Hello from NEWFOUNDLAND love your channel
Hello to NEWFOUNDLAND! I've always wanted to visit your province. 😁
I totally agree with your assessment. Merry Christmas to you too 🎄.
Interesting topic today. I agree with you 💯 that we need to educate ourselves then do our best to make the changes we can. We can’t do it all but many people doing 1 thing can add up to a big change.
Have a wonderful holiday with Shiloh and Sofie!! All the best and lots of love into the new year 🎄😻🥰🙏
I totally agree that lot of people making small changes can have a big impact.
I hope you have a great visit with Shiloh!! Happy Holidays! 🎄🎄😀❤
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
Good luck! 😁🎄
Thank you. You too! 🎄
The Merriest of Christmas' to you , Shiloh, Keaton and Sophie. Also, a prosperous and joyful New Year . May all your wishes come true.❤☃️🎄
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too! 🎄❤️
I think I’ll definitely wait until after the holidays to watch this and as much as a part of me would rather stay in ignorant bliss… I can’t!
Have a very Merry Christmas with Shiloh and Sophie.Love & hugs. ❤️🎄🎅🏻
Hahahaha! I know what you mean 🤷🏻♀️🥰
I have not seen this but I will watch it tonight when I go to work. Thank you for discussing this 😊. And I am going to make a pie this week. Never thought about using the crust for the topper! Definitely going to do this. Merry Christmas and enjoy time spent with your daughter ❤️🎄🎄
I agree, if we do a little (or a lot), a change can be possible. Thanks for sharing. Greetings ! 🇵🇷
Thank you Carmen ❤️.
Great idea! I'll think about doing a monthly video like that.
You're not crazy ;) We need to be more mindful of how we live on this planet. Enjoy your time with Shiloh!
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you ! 🎄
i hear you! enjoy your christmas with your family!
Thank you! You too!
I am going to watch the documentary. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you, Keaton, Shiloh and Ms.Sophie! 🎄☃❄
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you too! 🎄☃❄
I agree! Merry Christmas to you too ☺️🎄.
Thank you for sharing. Always love to learn and appreciate you sharing. I love you and hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and the most wonderful holidays! Hi Shilo! Sorry about the spelling if I spelled it wrong!😊
Thank you, Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
It sounds like you have a great system! I also think about the Stompin' Tom song sometimes.
Merry Christmas from 🇺🇸 🎄🎄🎄
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too. 🎄
Thank you. You too.
Merry Christmas🎄
Same to you!
Good for you! 🙏🏼☺️
Thank you ☺️.
Merry Christmas Adalina 🤶 🎄
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
Cheers : )
Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you too!
I do love Bulk Barn's 'bring your own container' policy. I see Amazon is using more paper packaging now over the white plastic. Hope? :) Merry Christmas to you and yours Adelina!
Yes, Bulk Barn is a great option! Merry Christmas to you too ☺️🎄.
I’m glad you’re finding products that work for you! 😊 I'm on the look out for something like that local.
It's an invaluable skill being able to repair home appliances for sure!
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you too! 😊
❤❤❤ We certainly need to know the world we live in... thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
Yikes! 😥
That's so disturbing to hear 😕
Merry Xmas.
It's definitely a wake-up call, isn't it? Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎄.
People almost never buy what they need. People buy what they want. When I get in a situation where I think I need something ,I ask myself, what would grandma do and I usually make something g different or use a different ingredient.
I love that, what would grandma do? 😊
Good for you! I agree. It’s important to choose your battles. Merry Christmas to you too 🎄😁.
In the UK a chef called Hugh Fernley Wittingstall made a documentary like this a few years ago. What was shocking was that councils, who thought they had done the right thing by employing a Waste Disposal Company found that their waste had ended up in piles in a 3rd world country!
Wow! So sad. 😞
I am going to watch it. It's really too bad that they could somehow get the companies make better packaging. Remember when VHS tapes were big. My niece bought every Disney movie that came out for her kids, and then all of a sudden we had other forms of watching movies. What a huge waste and all the money that was spent.
I now have it on my watch list. One documentary that horrified and changed me was Food INC.
Food, Inc. was an eye-opener for me too!
Hi! Thank you for the Christmas card. Merry Christmas 🎄
To watch!oh my God I'm too afraid!
I haven’t watched but I have been trying to stop creating so much waste. I am particularly trying not to buy things in plastic bottles. I use bar shampoo and soap and laundry detergent that comes packed in cardboard. Continuing to try to figure out other things I can switch out
It's so important to try to be mindful of packaging!
I bake pies in my cast iron fry pan in my toaster oven. Just curious-have you tried that?
I love that you and he did your shopping at thrift stores for Christmas. That must have been fun!
I have always said that when I’m done with something, someone else can use it. It’s a way of recycling.
It's a great habit for sure!
It's so frustrating how packaging can be a huge source of waste.
It is scary and overwhelming. Marry Christmas! I am trying to became a minimalist, and on the funny side today's inflation is helping!
I think I would like to watch this video. I believe I may be an Amazon addict ☹️ getting ready to take stuff to the thrift store I. Fact to make room for “new” purchases. ☹️
It can be a tough habit for us to break! 😌
I did not buy gifts this year, no one needs a thi g, we get together have a meal play games and each day is a gift all buy it's self. I will not by into this consumer ism any more. They start putting christmas decorations in the stores before Halloween. Rediculas
I think the way you're doing it is perfect ☺️.
And then there is shrink flation. So you buy more of the item.
A product disappearing before our
eyes is pretty sad! My husband and I
are astonished at what some companies
get away with! 😂
I saw this as well😢
I consider myself a fairly competent baker but I, like you, cannot manage to make a great pie crust. I therefore hate making them and am not motivated to try. I try very hard to reuse and not throw away. I’m very sensitive to the amount of garbage we are making and I continually lament these thro away products we are being presented with. Where does it stop.
You are so right. It's frustrating!
Yes, it certainly was an eye opener for me too!
I made an apple pie with 3 apples be cause it's all I had. It turned out like a tart but it was great.
Sounds yummy 😋
I live in a city, I recycle and found out that most of the items are not . I'm troubled by it but not letting this rule my thoughts. I will be as respectable as I can to the world as I can. I by mostly thrift. Take care Merry Christmas.
I agree. We can only do the best we can. Merry Christmas to you too 🎄.
The one time I “bought now” (about five years ago) it was asinine (three months later it was replaced). Never ever fkn again will I cater to anyone.
This wastefulness is the thing that worries me the most. If we don’t turn things around it will be the end of us! And our planet!
Peace and love to you too.
Thanks for letting me know. I'll see what I can do.
