First off it’s a artistic masterpiece. I own 9 Parfums De Marly , and this is the one people see first. To me Kalan is a spicy masculine fragrance for going out at night. It won’t wow you at first, you will sit there trying to figure out what it’s doing. It is in its dry down where the molecules start having the necessary chemistry. It’s a beast projector that is for certain guys. It’s a nice change up from the other Marley’s imo.
Hello Josephine, this is my impression on Kalan, at the first smell in the opening something pungent rose up my nostrils. a mixture of notes, almost in bulk, as if to create expectation, anxiety, about something you don't know about, then the red flavor of spices and earth, blood, clear and powerful, and then the comforting taste of amber and wood. The victory. Kalan is a perfume used to go to battle. For me it is a confident journey and it makes me feel good. The first perfume i wear just for me. I love it but also received unexpected compliments as well! You're right, this perfume is either loved or hated, but I think that to wear it you have to enter a new mindset. I love it. Hello Josephine Kalan is a challenging fragrance, but in my opinion this is what it makes the scent DNA realy interesting for me. Parfums de Marly has some high quality crowd pleasing fragrances and they are great. With Kalan Parfums de Marly has a more niche type fragrance and I like that. I have a 75 ml bottle from Kalan and I'm happy to have this fragrance in my collection. Greetings from germany

Nothing wrong with challenging fragrances, but Josephine got their number on this one: some weird elements jumbled up -even after putting up with the opening. Josephine, this "earthy soil like character note" is very prominent in Tom Fords "Noir Anthracite". It is challenging to pull off, but it is possible. I recommend all black outfits. I am confident that I get at least a "thumbs middle" in terms of compliments.I actually received a couple of compliments for both "Noir Anthracite" and "Kalan". BTW 10.000 Subscribers ;-) Congratulations. I am not surprised at all. Keep up with the great work.
I find this to be very interesting scent. Very masculine. I wore first day to a club had my date with me. She kept telling me that I smell good. Next morning she texted me to find out what I was wearing. To me it was love at first sniff. I bought two bottles full price:). I was surprised on hear that it is a very polarizing.
Wow! I thought I was I was going crazy. People told me Kalan smells unisex leaning masculine, one even said feminine. But, to my nose it was polarizing and very masculine. I'm glad someone agrees with me. Now I know I'm not going crazy.

I have a sample of kalan since about a month it came out. It's a weird fragrance, green and sweet and it has very very VERY annoying chemical smell. That's what it has in common with br540. Is it a good fragrance? Not for me, but everyone is different 😉
After using Kalan for several weeks, I had to come back to this video. I smell spicyness (is that a word?), and something cold after a while. My neighbour smells something sweet, on my dad it smells exactly like BR540. 😀 It is a very niche fragrance, I like it a lot! But it is not for everyone.
Hi Jus, PDM released a new fragrance called "Sutton" in 2020. It goes more in the fresh/fruity direction (Top notes: Sicilian bergamot, Mandarine, Green Apple, Cashmere Wood. Middle notes: cedarwood, petit grain, Pomarose Base Notes: Oakmoss, Amber, Musk, Wood accord). The bottle is transparent "green" (I would say it fits now into Sedley Collection). More for spring, summer, warm Fall days. Kalan is a good Fall scent (it remembers me more of Tom Ford F. Fabulous) 😊 My Scent of today "Aventus Cologne". Perfect for summer and casual clothes. Nice review 👍🏻🔥 PS: Kalan is for me not a must have. Must haves are Layton (or exclusif), Herod, Pegasus, Percival, Carlisle, Sedley and now Sutton 😊
After reading countless reviews and watching every TH-cam review on this fragrance, finally someone's experience parallels my own. Kalan, is a fragrance, by PDM, for the fragheads out there. It's an earthy, spicy, red bell pepper (hence the red bottle) . It actually reminds me of jalapeno oil, with lavender and sweet cotton candy notes thrown in. It's not for me but an interesting scent no doubt.
I am like you: at first I thought Kalan was just a mismatch of notes that reminded of MFK BR540 (as well as TTerenzi Spirito Fiorentino, but darker, leathery). Even left Kalan a bad review on fragantica. Well, well... I bought it. Really like it now and it makes me happy. The only thing, on my skin it does not perform well, but still is a great fragrance.
I didn’t like Kalan when I first smelt it. Then I tested it and as it dried down it grew and grew on me. So much so that I ended up getting a bottle. 😊
OK - so I just received my bottle of Kalan in the mail. I was a little worried - there are good reviews of this fragrance, but a few unflattering comments and reviews as well. My verdict - outside of my initial sample that I tried at Nordstroms, I 'wore' this fragrance today and I kind of like it. This is not a Pegasus, Layton, Oajan, Percival 'like', but Kalan is not bad. I don't like the opening - it smells kind of earthy, and odd. Not a good first impression. Having said that, I really like the dry down. The opening doesn't last very long - it's strong and weird...but to my nose it only took a few minutes to settle into what I would describe as a Tom Ford F**KING Fabulous drydown. I like this fragrance!
Definitely polarizing. Im very familiar with the scent of real blood oranges...I’m around them quite often.....I get the blood orange in this fragrance and love it!
I feel like Layton Exclusif is a blend of Kalan that is smoothed out with Layton. Love it. Brilliant. Blending their most popular with their most polarizing.

In my opinion, you should not have to work with any perfume you either like or you do not when you are out first impressions count you normally only get one change the person smelling your perfume does not think Oh I may get used to it they just move away or the woman your with say I don't like it and I bet you will never wear it again, Parfum de Marly is a great smell so different than most I have not found anyone that dislikes it Yet :-) keep up the good work

As a Marly fan, I have always admired their colognes which are always unique and second to none, imo. However, Kalan is a beast out there that I just haven't been able to relate to ever since. I am sure there are many people out there who admire this perfume for what it delivers. But you spoke the verdict very well: "Don't blind-buy it because there is a 50-50 chance that you might like it or hate it." Try it out before buying to see if it fits for you. Kalan is fairly awesome and different scent ,definitely not the biggest winner on initial spray but dry down is amazing.You really need to try it on your skin ,a fragrance strip gives you a bit of the dry down scent but once it is on your skin and you get the aroma of it is amazing for me.I like Layton and Pegasus as well ,excellent niche cologne that isn’t too pretentious of a brand.
It's good for someone that wants same scent in any situation and atmosphere. Personality that one way to deal with any problem and one way for all stages of life.
Has no one compared this to Tous Man Intense? It's a dead ringer! It's got amped up sweetness throughout and a lot more pepper in the opening but I'll bet Kalan was inspired by Tous Man Intense...

Thanks for this video Josephine.....I live here in Canada and my shipment of Kalan arrives tomorrow. I have smelled it before at Nordstroms and the opening was quite strong but I did like it enough to order it at a discounted price. My only regret is that I perhaps should have ordered Habdan instead.

It’s definitely a mood fragrance. When I first sprayed my sample I wasn’t overly impressed, but it’s grown on me somewhat. Right now Galloway and Sedley are my favorite PDM’s and will probably blind buy Sutton.

I have a sample of Kalan from November that I still haven't finished. Sometmes I like the scent, other times its earthy, spicy and loud for me. I guess it depends what type of vibe your going for that day. Its a 7.8/10 for me.
I ordered the Parfums de marly discovery set and they decided to throw in Kalan as an extra sample turned out to be the only one I liked. I really like Kalan I will be buying a full bottle soon.

I really love this perfume, its very seductive. For a lady use, you can layer with BR540, its go well together and give you more sweetness.

Hate Kalan, it never turns sweet on my skin. Just doesn't work for me. I agree it doesn't smell like BR 540, which I find okay but not great.

at first i really dont like it.. but the more i smell it, the more i like it. the more i feel how niche this fragrance is. good job pdm

I have a sample of Kalan from November that I still haven't finished. Sometmes I like the scent, other times its earthy, spicy and loud for me. I guess it depends what type of vibe your going for that day. Its a 7.8/10 for me.

I feel like this would be great for all seasons, albeit the fact that it can be a little pungent on the opening.
Tried layton, sedley, Pegasus，harod, percival, kalan. The only one i loved is kalan.
I ordered the Parfums de marly discovery set and they decided to throw in Kalan as an extra sample turned out to be the only one I liked. I really like Kalan I will be buying a full bottle soon.

Finally a honest review on Kalan. And yet every TH-cam schill (we all know who they are) was proclaiming this was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Kalan is a sexy fragrance beyond reason!
