    You're right about the stickers; my Honda tank got rusty inside and dented outside, stickers took a scrape too. Bought a new tank, and found the genuine replacement stickers cost almost as much as the replacement tank 😮

    Nice work, although I'm a little surprised You didn't flush the inside with some tank cleaner acid before You started to fix the outside! Fuel tanks always have rust inside when been removed from the bike, and being stored empty. Can\t wait to see the progress on the engine! 👍

    Martin, great idea about leaving the powder coat clear of the number, but, personally, I would not re-stamp it!! People get very concerned about frame numbers, if you know what I mean…

    • @bobuilt10
      @bobuilt10 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, a lot of numbers on Japanese bike of this era were only just legible anyway. Don't underestimate how hard the numbers are to line up. I used to work in engineering and had to stamp up heat treated parts for tracking purposes. If I didn't hit the stamp hard enough first time, they usually ended up with double vision.

    Hi Martin, coming along great :) Can you tell me what non-clogging sandpaper you are using, mine keeps clogging up when dry sanding. I've ordered some Abranet anyway but wondered about yours. Thanks mate :)

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not non clogging bud. It normally clogs if you use a too finer paper from the start. I use 80 grit to do most of the work and then 180 and then 240 before priming. When sanding down the filler primer, it could be 120 up to 320 and finishing with 500 to be ready for base coat.

    • @HepcatHarley
      @HepcatHarley 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@retrorestore Thanks Martin, I've been using them sanding sponges (a set) from 60-220g which have been OK...just when I go to 600g paper on the filler primer it clogs straight away. Thanks for the advice :) I'm using one of them zip up greenhouses as a spray booth :D

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not from bikes of this era Phil. My bikes of the 80s like the Rd had the tank decals on top of the lacquer.

    Hi Martin great video
    I have a mountfield rs100 mower , it is hunting quite bad , i have changed the fuel and cleaned the carb but still no good
    Any suggestions will be grateful

    • @masonusher9833
      @masonusher9833 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can rev it up buy the govner arm then it clears but if you let go off it it hunts

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mason, is it hunting on low speed or high speed. If low speed it will probably be the primary fuel circuit on the carb. That is the black plug under the throttle adjustment screw. You will need to lever the black plug out and make sure it is all clean through there. If it is hunting on fast speed, You'll need to remove the emulsion tube under the main jet and clean that. These are the normal causes of hunting.

    • @masonusher9833
      @masonusher9833 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@retrorestore thank you martin ill give it a go. Yes hunts on low revs
