    I am absolutely not a fan of the set combos. Sometimes it feels like I don't even have full control of my fighter compared to the previous EA UFC games. It's weird having to press a sequence of buttons to activate my combination and then watch the animation play out. It doesn't feel nearly as smooth as it used to in my opinion.

  • @GraysonKade
    @GraysonKade 6 ปีที่แล้ว +442

    The set combos was a really bad idea I think. I mean what is this mortal combat? I get every fighter having their own style like they do in real life, but I mean you should be able to create your own combos (which you can do but if they're not an actual fighters combo it wont be fluid). Having to memorize combos is annoying and very arcade like. They should have just done the combos like UFC 2 (minus the damage multiplyer obviously) where you could create your own combos on the fly, not have to memorize a set list for each fighter. That plus the fact that many of the moves require you to press 3 or 4 buttons at the same time.. i don't know I just think it was a bad call.

      It does get confusing especialy with body kicks and hooks along with siganture moves, or fkying knees, they use the block button as an input and it just cancels it sometimes

    • @RMichaelHimself
      @RMichaelHimself 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      When you say you should be able to do your own combos, could you give an example? What's a combo you want to throw that the game isn't allowing? I bet there is in fact a way to throw it, assuming it's a legitimate MMA technique.
      In the rare case that a fighter doesn't throw the combo you want, it's probably because it's contrary to that fighters real life striking style. So just use the fighters who do suit your style. There's a fighter that suits everyone on the game. If you know the sport of MMA, you know the styles of certain fighters, and you'll know if their style suits you in the game.

    • @ufc3merker987
      @ufc3merker987 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      the fact that ur saying u need to memorize combos means that u don't understand the game and ull never be fluid... you DONT need to remember combos... nate diaz is a boxer, so if i know nate diaz is a boxer, I'm going to throw boxing combinations that work in real life. its not really difficult. if u try something and it doesn't come out right, just remember that it doesn't work. u don't need to sit in practice mode and memorize every combination... thats not how its supposed to be played. stop being silly

    • @ufc3merker987
      @ufc3merker987 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      besides, nate diaz throwing crazy kicking combos and ufc 2 was stupid as fuck. limiting what the fighters can do is much more realistic and better for a realistic game

  • @nxughtie8846
    @nxughtie8846 4 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    “Pulling punches” in ufc 3 is just accidental feinting strikes. It was fully intended to be added into the game to add more diversity and to make it harder to counter. When used it’s actually really effective. Easily one of my favourite game mechanic.

    Another thing I noticed about stationary strikes is they're more likely to cause a health event. It seems that you get a little more power by planting your feet before you swing.

    • @ManjiChicken
      @ManjiChicken 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      KingBongHogger it's realistic like that. In boxing they teach you to plant your feet before swinging. It lets the kinetic chain be more solid

    • @KingBongHogger
      @KingBongHogger 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Evne Yep! I was kind of blown away when I learned how much more power you can generate when you plant and swivel your hips in with the strike. Since I learned that I've set the record on every arcade punching machine I've seen haha. When you're a heavyweight like me, those punches start entering the "dangerous" territory. My 3rd match I broke a jaw and still feel bad about it.

    • @ManjiChicken
      @ManjiChicken 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KingBongHogger yeah. I went from punching about a 600-700 on those machines to 900 plus every time with the technique.

    • @KingBongHogger
      @KingBongHogger 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Evne They're all calibrated differently. I hit the one at the bar by me and it reads 999 with me not swinging as hard as possible. There's one in an arcade that I swung with everything I had and got it up into the 860's. It's not really a scientific way to measure punch power. It just makes you feel like a badass when the machine freaks out for a new record

    • @ManjiChicken
      @ManjiChicken 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      KingBongHogger yeah, punch power doesn't really mean much to me, I'm a firm believer that a punch that lands is better than the strongest punch any day

    I love how the combos in this game are like deep hidden secrets and the corner man just tells you good job or take your opponent down. Your corner should see openings and your opponents weaknesses and give you hints live during the fight and especially in between rounds like real life.

  • @SoreEyeMusic
    @SoreEyeMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I usually use the 'pulling punches' to lure a reaction out of the AI (i don't play online), and it works super well for ranged boxing. Do it at a regular outside range and move back, the opponent either attempts spinning backfists or other fast strikes to counter your own strike, but miss because you didn't commit to the punch or kick, and that's great to keep your opponent open to counter-counter strikes if you will. I love fighting guys like Israel Adesanya or Leon Edwards like that, because it becomes a glorious technical strike-fest that's a lot of fun.

  • @cttv3494

    My problem with knowing your fighters combos is, I just can't be arsed learning the combos of every fighter I use, I'd forget which fighter to which combo, so I do try and use like universal combos I guess you'd call them.

      20 Times Man United it can be pretty bad but trying mixing In a lot faints to draw out their counters and then strike, and also mix in some leg kicks as they do more damage if someone is using head movement, at the very least it'll make them not use head movement as much. Had a Yoel Romero player today who was spamming head movement leave once he realized his legs were fucked from all the spamming.

These are probably the best controls a game like this can have so sit the fuck down and get good.

    Good stuff, marital! I have a suggestion for a future video...can we see your hands on the controller side by side with the game? I m curious to see if you play the game with 2 fingers on the L and R triggers and just how relaxed your hands are when you are closing distance or getting outa the way

    All I'm seeing is people complaining about the striking system, it's one of the best and most complicated striking systems there is. People be trying to play this like mortal kombat, try and have a basic understanding of the fight game first and don't expect to be amazing straight away.

    I had no clue stationary striking was a thing until now which is 2 years later. I know it’s a thing in all of the fight nights because I’ve played almost everyone but I had no clue stationary striking was a thing in ufc 3. Thanks for mentioning that I had no clue.

    Fighters don’t back out of a punch because they’re scared it’s a tactic to make the opponent guard up or suddenly drop tactic or stance to prepare themselves for an incoming kick/takedown/grapple that will never come leaving them open for another move. For example a lot of fighters shoot in for a takedown allowing the opponent to drop guard to there head ready to protect there waist but infact & then leave themselves open for there opponent to catch them with a head strike. You’ll see Lyoto & silver are some of the best at this tactic

  • @bradleydeal9385
    @bradleydeal9385 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    its all about head movement, big combos after starting with a side step. alternate body and head. and ALWAYS end with a kick to the body or legs. the lunge body strike is a great first punch as well. you can cover lots of distance and they are hard to stop. the jab is also your friend. and COUNTER COUNTER COUNTER

    I play career mode off line the majority of the time. The thing I Hate most about UFC3 is that the skills are scrambled, advanced submission moves found in the kick boxing gym advance wrestling moves found amongst kickboxing and jiu Jitsu gyms. There is no organization whatsoever. It is very difficult to put together the kind o fighter you want. Injuries, training schedules and obligations outside the octagon interfere enough without having search for one specific move in a gym where it shouldn’t even be taught. I get there should be some crossover but it should be on a basic level moves should be taught at the gym designated to teach the move. To me this is the part of the game which seems to be thrown together like at the last minute.

    Yeah the put “pulling strikes” in the game on purpose, it’s called feinting, which can open up an opponent

    • @missedlayup5193
      @missedlayup5193 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pulling punches is just a generic term for not following through on a punch, so if your intent is really to hit them and you hesitate and block that's not a feint, it's pulling a punch.

      when people do that to me ill try to block their shots and rotate until their stamina is decently low then throw a few jabs and the second they back off and create space throw a mean hook combo and it usually stuns them. taking advantage of aggresive players stamina is the best way to counter imo.

  • @FluffheadsArmy

    It’s not a mistake as you are saying “pulling your punches” it’s meant to be put in the game to be used to faint strikes as a tool fighters use all the time. It’s supposed to be used to throw your opponent off. The point is to cancel to keep your opponent on your toes it isn’t “not committing to your strike” as you are saying. It’s fainting a punch. Done all the time in real fights an good to see it implemented in the game as a tool

  • @jordanyang3066
