- The last time a United States Service Academy finished a college football season without a loss or a tie was Army in 1949 when they were led by Heisman Finalist Quarterback Arnold Galiffa. Army finished that season 9-0 and 4th in the associated press poll. Air Force is off to a 7-0 start and ranked number 19 in the polls. They are putting together a magical season that I do not think is being talked about enough. But is it sustainable? And is there a chance they can make the college football playoffs? This is the rise of Air Force Football.

The big thing too is Air Force doesn’t get help from the transfer portal or NIL deals. These athletes come here to possibly die instead of go elsewhere and make big bucks. It shows a lot that a team like that is having such a remarkable season.
Yeah they're probably get past the top 15 in the AP poll but going to the playoff isn't going to happen
They will probably in the G5 New Years Six Bowl but its sad they don't really even have a shot at the playoffs

@@EmbracetheGrindnot really. We have seen it with teams like Cincinnati or Tcu. Non power house teams almost always stand 0 chance.
If academy base school get into the draft I would say allow them to be reserves so they can spend time focusing on both.
As former national guard vet I would say it wouldn’t be so bad to have them go to PT or training once a month and have summer detail during off-season would make sense.
Plus NFL could work with military member players on having them finish basic and IT education then be eligible to play as soon they get the core work done.
Difficult part is loyalty to each one.
this was actually a huge issue last year
forgot what service academy had a unironic first half of the draft prospect and they changed the rule where they had to serve first
i think it was changed to where they can ball and then after their pro career ends they serve
or the likes idr the fine details but it was something like that

but it doesn't as Marine you should know military academy has contracts which are legal bind meaning no way of breaking unless medical waiver or vouch by HOC@@0FFBRAND

Well we've seen a certain parts of the population already disrespect the flag and not support the troops because the still wave the traitor flag, they'd have no problem screwing over a service academy 🤣

As a retired Air Force officer and Boise State fan, I’m conflicted. I want AFA to win all their games except one. That the service academies are competitive at all with so many hands tied behind their backs is amazing. I knew lots of AFA football team alums when on active duty. All cadets must meet military weight standards at graduation. Seniors have just a few months after their bowl game to make weight - it’s tough, and the faculty/staff help them a lot to make sure they do it safely, but still. IMO, if a player gets drafted, let him go USAFR. As long as the Air Force has bands and protocol officers, the 1 or 2 cadets who get drafted are not negatively impacting readiness and can help with recruiting - both football players and Air Force enlistees. Playoffs? Maybe when the 12-team format starts…

As long as every other team has 3 losses or more, AF can make the playoffs. The committee is all bought.

Everyone would need a losing record for air force to even pretend to have a shot at the playoff. You want in a playoff, schedule actual football programs. A top Texas HS program will dominate air force on any field.

The Congressional decision to reinstate the 2 year service requirement (waiting period) is a just a shame… and proof of how myopic Congress can be. 🤦♂️

Air force is tough but plays weak comp. If they go against say LSU or ole miss they wouldn't stand a chance
Everyone knows that the restrictions doesn’t allow them to have the players to go against P5 athletes
@@kFlame-yg2et In the last three years in their bowl games they beat Washington State, Louisville and Baylor. Not played them...won the actual games. I'm not saying they can beat Georgia, Ohio State, USC or Alabama but they are beating P5 teams so saying they can't compete is completely wrong.
@@IronForged wouldn't say Louisville and Baylor are exactly cream of the crop power 5 teams. Sure they can beat a mid power 5 team but I don't see them beating any of the top 25. And this is not the last three years. It's this year, and none of those teams losing to air force

i had a classmate who is know attending the air force academy and he worked his ass off to get in, i can’t imagine playing football at a high level while putting in that other effort off the field
I actually suspect that is one reason why all the military schools such as Army, Air force, and Navy are never really football powerhouses, because the standards are so high off the football field it's almost impossible to compete at a high enough level on the football field...
It's just really hard to be any kind of Division 1 athlete at a service academy. There's so much that goes against them, but the one thing they do have going for them is discipline.

I'm sorry, Air Force is decent, but they play BUMS, they are nowhere near playoff contenders, they are honestly lucky to be ranked.

While it has been sad to see them struggle the past few weeks, it was still fun being able to cover them when they were hot
Smurf Turf on Black Friday will be their toughest test. Air Force rises up to tough tests on the road. They smacked up CSU @ CSU while BSU only escaped with a 1pt victory there. That said, BSU just smacked up Wyoming on the Smurf Turf & AF only beat them by a TD. It’s going to be a battle in the trenches between the #2 ranked Rush Defense (AF) & the #6 Ranked Rush offense (BSU). I’ll take AF & the points
Coach Calhoun I do not think has ever won less than 7 games, most years he wins about 9. Calhoun was the Freshman back up QB in 1985 when they lost only one game and ranked #4. I am biased I have known Troy Calhoun since we were 14.
I'm an AF brat (my dad served 20 years as an air traffic controller), so I LOVE AF and am so glad they are doing well. BUT, they have no chance of getting into the playoff this year. Hopefully they can make a really good bowl game. Go Falcons!

It’s unfortunate that this team doesn’t get a shot in the regular season against high end power 5 teams.
Every power 5 team they’ve played in bowls (which have been mid) under Calhoun, they have absolutely dog walked.
They’re usually a consistent 9+ win team with a top end defense, top end rushing attack, efficient in passing, and lead in time of possession. Sure they’ll never blow out opponents but that’s the game they like to play. Chew clock, wear out the opposing defense, and force turnovers on opposing offenses.
The only one I’m concerned about is BSU. We’ve always struggled against them.
If they spank Hawaii, Army and Boise would they let them in playoff? They let Cincinnati, I realize they beat Notre Dame but dag!
It took a lot of breaks along with that ND win for Cinci to get their shot, though the segregationist fans will tell you otherwise lol.

They need everyone in the country to lose at least twice, and they need to go unbeaten and preferable blow teams out.

But if they go 14-0 with a new year 6 win, and do what UCF did and have a small poll say #1 and claim a natty. Still even that is an awesome year that most teams would dream of.

Absolutely no way that Air Force makes the CFP. I would be personally pissed if they got in over a 1 loss SEC team or even a big 10 team
They would need to go unbeaten and blow everyone on there schedule out, then they would need every other team to lose at least twice and preferably have some 3 loss conference champions.
I would rather see Air Force in the CFP over a team whose fans still wave Confederate flags because I'm a true American.

Grew up a big Army fan as my uncle was a coach there throughout my childhood. That being said no matter how many times Air Force wins the commander in chief they will always be little brother to army and navy as a program. Some of the cleanest uniforms in all of cfb though, the bolts are so tough.

@@neneshubby Probably because Air Force is the youngest of the service academies, so Navy-Army has that tradition and national spotlight every year while Air Force quietly racks up Commander in Chief trophy wins.
