    To everyone down on this film because of it having been done before...
    1.) Those films weren't directed by Danny Boyle
    2.) Those films didn't star Michael Fassbender
    3.) Those films didn't have a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin
    4.) Look at that trailer, you can't deny it looks compelling

    Oh. My. Lord. I'm so sick of the "he doesn't look like Steve Jobs so he's going to be terrible" comments. Keep in mind, Michael Fassbender might be one of the greatest actors working right now in full honesty, and people are actually DEFENDING Ashton Kutcher, who turned in a cheesy-at-best performance whose only redeeming quality was that he LOOKED like Steve Jobs. It shouldn't matter if Fassbender looks like Jobs; as long as he can embody who he was and turn in a compelling performance that suits the story, there's no reason to criticize him.
    Also, when did it matter whether or not the actor looked like who they were playing? Look at a movie like "I'm Not There," where they got 6 different actors (including a woman) to play embodiments of Bob Dylan. Or even recently with "Love and Mercy," neither Paul Dano nor John Cusack look at all like Brian Wilson. However, in both cases, those movies were fantastic and all the actors were compelling and did a terrific job regardless, because they at least captured the soul of who those people were, and suspended the disbelief.
    In conclusion, anybody can look like someone else, it takes true talent to embody the essence of someone else.

      Arnold Guy Agree. The Jobs character needs to radiate infuriating charisma and ability to push through and get away with anything. If you just have a lookalike, you'll probably fall short on the charisma part, and I guess the makers here opted for the latter. I bet Fassbender will do just fine.

    • @raisington

    • @mmmmSmegma
      @mmmmSmegma 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arnold Guy The "he doesn't look like Steve Jobs so he's going to be terrible" argument is so stupid that I have to assume that anybody that says that is under 10 years old. I mean... wtf... The most important thing is how well the guy can *act* like Steve Jobs - not physically *look* like Steve Jobs. What are we gonna do? Search the ends of the Earth for some random dude that looks like Steve Jobs and send him to acting school for several years? I just... I can't... I can't understand how people can actually care so much about how much the actor physically looks like Steve Jobs instead of caring more about how well the actor *ACTS* like Steve Jobs. Incomprehensible to me.

  • @trentb3148
    @trentb3148 9 ปีที่แล้ว +115

    "Pirates of Silicon Valley" was the perfect Steve Jobs story. Mostly because it ends with his destruction. He works so much better as a tragic figure than as a comeback story. It's intensely difficult to cheer for the guy, so watching him fail is a hell of a lot more satisfying.

    • @jon-erich9752
      @jon-erich9752 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Tre B His story works the way it happened because of how it ended. The end of his life is something that truly is cinematic, although I don't think it's going to be in this movie.
      Here we have a man who sought to maintain control of everything around him and was able to distort reality in order to achieve his goals. But in the last few years of his life he realized that he wasn't needed at Apple as much as he was before and he felt kind of hurt by that. When his health got worse, he realizes that no reality distortion will change his situation. Instead of trying to stubbornly maintain control over something he can no longer control, he gracefully gives up the control that he tried to maintain throughout his life. He could have remained Apple's CEO until the day he died and I'm sure the board what have let him. But he understood that Apple was much bigger than he was. While the end of his life was not that of a tragic figure, it is still somewhat epic.

    • @sumtwthfs
      @sumtwthfs 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tre B but that was in the 90s and while admittedly jobs was a dick, his most successful period was ahead of him at this point.

    • @trentb3148
      @trentb3148 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jon-Erich Smith You put it very poetically. However, you ignore how he got to that point. He may have softened his edges later in life, but it didn't change the backs he walked over to get there.
      Jobs' second act with Apple was pretty much the same as the first act. Take the creations of others and market it as something revolutionary, to great success. Except in his second act, it's only nature that serves to knock him from his high horse, rather than his arrogance.
      To me, the first act is infinitely more interesting. Especially with a relateable figure like Steve Wozniak to serve as his stepping stool. As Ian says, his most successful period may have still been ahead of him, but it's not nearly as fascinating. I almost wonder if this film doesn't go in chronological order, because I can't imagine putting the less interesting stuff at the end.

    Are people really gonna pay money to see someone's life be turned into some overdramatic hollywood flick, which probably only exists because Apple wants an advertisement like that shitty ass The Internship movie?
    instead, save your money until someone puts out a documentary on the daily life at a Foxconn iPhone factory, because Apple isn't some great corporation made through heroism, Jobs was just really good at what he did, and apparently didn't mind if other people had to suffer for his accomplishments.
    Just wait for Microsoft to shit out a Gates film once his final days are over.

    • @MetalOcelot90
      @MetalOcelot90 9 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      ***** I really fucking doubt that this movie will paint Jobs or Apple as heroes. People will pay money because it's directed by Boyle, stars Fassbender, and looks amazing.

    • @Luigiiii
      @Luigiiii 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Kennedy Of course it won't be straightforward, but it'll surely act as an ad. The Internship was painted as a mere comedy movie about Google, but let's be real, anyone who saw it knew how clearly the movie was trying to get you to like Google, to the point of eventually straight up advertising the offices.
      All this is, is hoping that next time you walk into the Apple store, you go "Wow, Jobs made this all possible!", it fits almost too perfectly in the type of brand loyalty that's been used to market since the early 90's.

    "The graphical user interface was stolen."
    Wtf? It wasn't. Woz complained in an interview about this line. Poor research or playing to the haters? I don't know, but bad. Anyway, the character of Jobs seems spot on, although a bit too devilish.

      @LorenzoDoesntExist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      Similar graphical user interfaces existed before his, but he gets all the praise. That was the point of that line. Nobody's "playing to haters." This isn't an anti-Jobs film. It's a sympathetic film towards Jobs that depicts him as a troubled genius. Poor research on your part.

      Just compare the Think Different deliveries, Steve Jobs doesn't talk like that he doesn't talk like Batman his voice is much more of a top end and Ashton spends more of it doing more of a whisper.
      I wanted to like Jobs but it was just crap and I knew it was going to be crap as soon as the scene that they released of him and Wozniak in the carpark was released because it was so incredibly stupid and the performances were crap.

      +TheFanguy123 Its isn't hollywood attractive story. The social network had betrayal, friendship broken, court troubles etc. Makes a good story.
      Steve Jobs had a lot of mistakes made in his early days. Both are good ingredients for a smash hit hollywood movie.
      Bill was a people friendly guy and a nerd. He was very few 'controversial' stories about him. So generally they won't make a movie about him.

    • @Wepper1
      @Wepper1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      +Joab John I don't think so, Bill Gates is considered to be the most successful business man of the 20th century and the leading philanthropist of modern times. People believed for a long time that, under Gates' leadership, Microsoft is an evil company that would monopolize the computing industry. On the flip side, he eradicated polio in some parts of the world and now he's tackling malaria. Just like how Jobs was perceived as a genius, there's more about Gates that meets the eye.
      I think the reason there wouldn't be a movie about him for some time is because his life narrative isn't complete. He's still pushing hard his philanthropic efforts and he plans to do so for the rest of his life. So my guess is that, once he's passed away, there's a high likelihood of a Gates movie.

    I can't take this movie seriously because Micheal looks nothing like Steve Jobs. Micheal is too, "sophisticated-looking", and "arrogant-looking". I keep saying to myself, "Who the hell is this smug-ass dude?" Maybe once I watch the movie, I'll be immersed by his acting. But until then- I'm indifferent about him and the movie.

      Just because he looks nothing like Steve Jobs doesn't mean the movie is gonna be bad as long the acting is good and the cinematography and the story behind Steve Jobs the movie will be awesome besides he looks like him when Jobs was older like with grey hair

    I haven't seen Jobs yet, and don't have any intention of doing so. Like most, I was surprised to see another biopic about Steve Jobs being released so soon after its predecessor.. However, you cannot rule out anything with Michael Fassbender, even this trailer is evidence of that... Fassbender is one of the only actors out there close to coming anywhere near DDL in terms of acting capabilities... I will certainly watch this.. And I must LOL at people viewing this in a derisory way over that of Ashton Kutcher.

    • @TrueIronMaidenFan
      @TrueIronMaidenFan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ross N. C. Vince Not true, plenty of actors are on DDL's level. Joaquin Phoenix, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce, Jake Gyllenhaal, ect

    • @RossNCVince
      @RossNCVince 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Colby Guy Pearce is definitely 'up there', so to Bale... Di Caprio is a rung down in my opinion.. Ralph Fiennes and Jake Gyllenhaal? Couldn't disagree more actually. But, each to their own.

    • @TrueIronMaidenFan
      @TrueIronMaidenFan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ross N. C. Vince glad you agree about Pearce and Bale, but what is your deal with DiCaprio, Gyllenhaal, and Fiennes?
      Did you see Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's list or Grand Budapest Hotel? Did you see Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler or Brokeback Mountian? Did you see DiCaprio in What's eating Gilbert Grape or The Aviator? Those are all DDL quality performances.
      I would also say De Niro and Kingsley in their primes are on that same level as DDL (or very close at least) also Kevin Spacey. So many amazing actors IMO
      OH and Sean Penn! Totalyl forgot about Sean Penn! I think he is a better actor than DDL
