    I LOVE these type of videos, Hollywood used to have such marvelous clothing in the movies!

    Love the fashions of the late 1920s. The dresses in this film are authentic and lovely.

    Costume wise, Hollywood always used to interpret earlier eras in terms of the present. So, the hair, makeup, shoes and undergarments in this movie clip are of the 'sixties, not the 'twenties -- which is why every look feels "off". For authentic acclaimed 'twenties costume recreations, see the TV series "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries".

      In 40 years Miss Fishers styling will look intolerably "Twenty Tens" I remember when 60s and 70s period costumes were so authentic looking - now they're totally dated.

      Oh I know! I think the same thing for hairstyles and fashion portrayed in movies. I may not be a total expert obviously, but I’ve done enough being alive and looking at old photos and such to know that they are often so modern/present day and it drives me crazy! It’s like half the time they don’t even do research for the hair and clothes, etc and don’t care at all. It makes it hard to just tell from a glance or a scene what time period movies are taking place in because they are becoming so inauthentic and so modern and “politically inclined”. Just tell a good old fashioned story with a good amount of research behind it so we don’t have to focus so much on those flaws and can pay attention to the actual story message and plot!

      At least the costumes fall to the mid-knee or below ;I’ve seen many 1920’s -set movies where the women are practically wearing mini-skirts🙄

    • @ROBYNMARKOW

      it’s bcuz they felt that they have to make the clothes & hairstyles look “appealing “ to a contemporary audience. 🙄

    Loved the Twenties fashions, but the movie was set in 1922 and the "Flapper" look didn't happen until the late 1920s (more like 1927 as evidenced by the films of Louise Brooks).

    The problem with the costuming, is that the skirts are to short. In the 1920's, the length would be mid-calf to below the knee.

    I've always loved this movie, and the costuming was tres chic, as they say.
    I only wish they had better color-guided the print before digitizing it, or repairing it before showing it.
    The narrator describes colors that don't match the screen, and for something like this, that's fatal!

    • @Danielevanssmith
      @Danielevanssmith 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The colors are fine.
      This is a Technicolor print and it retains the color correctly throughout the life of the film.
      Compare it to the DVD if you have access to it. I also own a Technicolor 16mm print of the film. It has the same colors.

    A very 60s color palette and dress lengths. Flapper clothes are a bit of a myth and not what your average woman wore - it was the late 20s that hemlines were a bit higher. Knee-length or above was quite shocking for the time and not at all the norm. But the costumes are extremely fashionable and exciting to behold, my goodness. I love Millie's accessorizing and the elegance of all the boudoir/pajama costumes, as well as Carol's handsome knickerbocker suit. That suit would be what the kids today would describe as "very gender"!
