I'm from Liverpool and have also lived in Bristol so can confirm it's not the same place. There is no west Liverpool just North and South but to be fair you'd be hard pressed to find someone from North Liverpool who does not have Irish Heritage, there was only one kid in my year at School who didn't have either Irish parents or Grandparents, he was Sri Lanka.

For the majority of these countries, the day that they encountered the British was the most significant day in their nations history ..For the British it was just a Tuesday.
We only invaded these places so they would speak english when we went there on holiday.

The British were laying undersea communications cables in 1850. It's why they were so successful at trade.
To be fair, most of the British Empire was a trading Empire, they didn't invade many Countries, they started with Companies such as the East India Company which set up trading and manufacturing with the approval of local rulers and became rich enough to have their own Army which enforced things when conflicts with local rulers broke out, it was only later that that Britain took over that control.
We British do like to travel.. Lol.. You need to check out (Al Murray's,, name a country we have defeated them).. Everything he mentions in it is true,, it Can all be fact checked..
What amazes me most about it ,is the LOGISTICS involved , planning ,movements etc must have been AWESOME .

When I last visited a foreign country as a tourist it did cross my mind whether or not to conquer it. However I was in Dallas and Texans tend not to appreciate the attitude, so I was dissuaded from such thinking.
Actually the classic 'pirate' accent made popular by the actor playing Long John Silver in the original Treasure Island movie was based on a South West English accent, specifically Bristol. This is probably quite accurate as a lot of the most famous pirates like Blackbeard and Benjamin Hornigold all grew up in Bristol.

@@terencehill1971 Well taking a look at famous pirate lists today gives some results that don't suggest most prominent where from SW England at all. Black beard is about all I can think of and "drake" Drake wasn't really a pirate. Jack Hawkins isn't well known. I think back then that may have been the case simply because of Black beard, but the Caribbean movies have opened up the world of pirates to include more than just white male dominated English figures.
The Colombia situation wasn't quite as clear cut as it was made out. Technically we were invited. At the time it was called Gran Colombia and was made up of modern day Colombia, Venezuela,Panama and Ecuador, and the UK hadn't forgot the support the Spanish gave to the 13 colonies in North America. Anyway after the Napoleonic war, Simón Boliviar sent a man called Luis López Mèndez to London to find volunteers to come help Gran Colombia fight for independence from Spain. He recruited 1'200 people....mainly unemployed veterans of the Napoleonic wars and convicts. These became known as the British Legion and swelled to 6'500 members. After a number of battles, they decisively beat the Spanish at the Battle of Boyacà, which effectively ended Spanish rule in the region. There is a British cemetery in Bogota. Its informative having a Colombian wife.

They certainly did in the movies - not a Scottish or Irish dialect, but my understanding is that pirates were a diverse bunch. I believe the stereotype of pirates speaking with west country English accents stemmed from their portrayal by Robert Louis Stevenson in his popular book Treasure Island.
I remember hearing that they actually didn't and it is more likely it was like cockney. The stereotype is due to a West country actor in the first pirate films. It came up on QI but can't find the source as I'm on mobile

Hi Enok, have a look at the "Kings and Generals" channel about Thomas Cochrane. He was called "La Lupe De Mare" or "The Sea Wolf" by Napoleon. He liberated Chile and Peru from Spanish rule and Brazil from Portuguese rule. He was an Admiral in 4 different Navies, and is still remembered every year by the Chilean Navy.

@@thiccieredd9606 been a few times in the past with Argentina having tried putting boots on the falklands but same with the french and others. It ties into the Spanish and Portuguese dividing up the new world to who claimed ownership in which brits have always said the Brits.
So the islands have been claimed and uk had to send troops to restore ownership (invading now disputed territory)

Just as an aside and apologies if you already knew this but the Southern US accent is thought to be very similar to the English accent going back to at least the 16th century. I was told this by a linguist, it isn't my field.
If you read Shakespeare in a Texan or Alabaman accent it really does work and I believe the theory.

In that video they don’t mention the Falkland Islands, the Sandwich islands, Ascension Island, Tristan de Cunha, the British Antarctic territory, the British Indian Ocean territory or Bermuda. I’m pretty sure there’s some others missed too....

We are a small but mighty island. One which no country (no matter how big you are, your military size) should ever under estimate. We have the grit and determination that others can only attempt to imitate.
Generic pirate accent is actually from Somerset in southern England cause alot and I mean alot of famous pirates came from there.

He's using modern terminology for geographical locations when in reality some countries just didn't exist back then. The British created Belgium for example. Many references to modern countries are out of context for the benefit of those who don't know the basic geographical reference.
Germany was Prussia in parts, Russia started under different names, well you get the idea modern day countries, borders and boundaries just weren't the same centuries ago. That's the problem with an ever evolving continent were land borders are contested and moving all the time.
Napal actually was never conquered. Their soldiers impressed us Brits so much we created a regiment for them in the British army, watch a video about the Gurkhas, a feared soldier that to this day serves in the UK military. Only India has them too, and that's because some chose to stay when India went independent.
Yeah, that's a problem with a lot of these "everywhere Britain invaded" articles - they use modern borders and colour in the whole modern country if England/the UK ever invaded anywhere that is now within that country. But at the time, the borders may have been different, or the country might not even have existed.
The video also includes Scotland and Wales as England, which obviously they’re not, but they just to the overall tally.
The British invasion of Denmark was basically just a short siege with a full scale rocket bombardment until we surrendered all our navy ships and immediately planted thousands of oak trees to build replacement ships. A very few years ago, the trees were finally big enough, but the navy had already upgraded to steel ships with their own rocket launchers and a few of those navy oaks were instead used for historical reconstructions.
We still have a few of these islands/countries which are British over seas territories!

btw since like 1707 so before the US even existed the UK has been pretty much constantly at war with now being the most peaceful time by far, to give you a rough idea from 1707 to 1776 when the american revolution happened the UK fought 230 wars, in that short amount of time

We do. We get taught it mate. It's best to learn from previous mistakes. Our school is dedicated to a colonist yet they teach about the atrocities committed by the colonist and thee empire.

Hi l live in the City of Bristol in the UK you are talking about. The city has existed for about 800 years as a port. The book Treasure Island was written in here and was famous for Pirates. So you have Pirate Genes in your dna.

Britain has done many bad things so has every country but no matter what no one can say its not impressive what a tiny island has achieved, outside of war/conflict Britain has also discovered more elements than all other countries combined, Britain started the modern world with the industrial revolution and is credited with all 3 recent revolutions, Britain has invented more things than all other countries, from medicines to technology, if Britain had better weather and naturally grown spices making the food a bit better (we use alot of spices now tho) UK would probably be regarded as the best country.

As a Scot, have to take issue with this video - it's called every country ENGLAND invades, and starts its timeline at 1169 with the current UK's borders - borders that did not exist until 1922. The maker of this video are making the common mistake foreigners make of beleiving the UK and England are the same, which they arn't, and he's interchangebly using the terms English and British, and showing the UK flag during wars that happened before UK existed.
England occipied Wales in 1277 - 1283 (which the video just ignores), and until very recently (1967) Wales was unfortunately treated by England and the UK governments as if as if it was part of England (a principality rather than a country).
England invaded Scotland a number of times during the 12-14th centuries (again ignored) but couldn't hold on to us. We remained independent until 1707 when Scottish lords wanted access to an empire and could get instance access to England's feldging one by signing a treaty to merge Scotland and England into the United Kingdom and the term "British" started to get used. The 1707 didn't count as an invasion, but the UK certainly didn't exist in 1169 as the video claims.
Northern Ireland became a thing, as it was the last British colony on the island of Ireland after the rest of Ireland broke away in 1922. Which brings us to the current borders this map mistaken starts with in 1169.

Or for that matter, hadn't interfered with the last one, making promises during the final days campaign when Yes took the lead in the polls in return for a "No" vote, then promoptly renaged on as soon as the referendum was over.
In fact, he's the easiest option, why not all three of the main English political parties just stop financially propping up their Scottish/Welsh branches, who's sole policy these days is "we oppose independence" - see how long they last on their own two feet with without financial backing from another country.
England could end the "Union" and be rid of those "hangers on" tomorrow it really wanted too, sadly your leaders seem desperate do everything in their power to prevent it, and I have yet to see any mainstream English political party advocate for English independence from said "hangers on we can't get rid of".

On the pirate thing, some pirates had a government license, making them technically privateers of the royal navy. The US copied this method by putting it in their constitution as something Congress can do ("letters of marquee")
There are quite a few missing. There is Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia also during WW2. We owned the Hawain Islands for a while. Not only that there was the Iberian campaign in 1811
I don't think we "owned" the Hawaiian islands. If memory serves it was much more amicable. We turned up, liked the place, liked the people, they liked us well enough back and eventually they started flying the Union Flag to signal to other would-be invaders "Don't fuck with us. We have a powerful friend at our back."
I enjoyed this and have to add this. I don't know how well you know your history but I was happy to see that African blood, especially the west African blood in your DNA and wonder if you know what that means? Slavery was illegal in the UK from 1186 but laws were ammended and changed later so here is an extract from a bit of history. "In 1807 Slavery in Britain was formally abolished by Parliament (although in 1770 a court case established that slavery in Britain was an abomination, every slave became free and any slave touching British soil became free even if they were on foreign vessels) and a naval squadron sent on anti-slavery patrols off the coast of Africa. Between 1808 and 1860 the West Africa Squadron captured 1,600 slave ships and freed 150,000 Africans."
Many of those freed Africans chose to join the Royal navy and serve the UK, became British citizens and returned to the UK where they often had families. Many British citizens are descended from those freed west African slaves and have that west African blood, like you.
You are quite probably descended from someone freed from slavery by the Royal Navy.

my grandpa was one of the first officers to enter italy with the artillary. he tore down a nazi flag we gave it to the war museum and they burnt it .

Excellent reaction, unfortunately the video your reacting too lacks a great deal of context as to those wars worryingly with the 2 different world war invasions, as well as at the end 'aggressively invaded', there were a few but most were related to the abolition of slavery, counter offensives and most of India and that region through the East India Company where the British effectively Bought India for the most part. If you want more information and want to do a goo reaction video please consider the video 'British Crusade Against Slavery'. Context is everything, we achieved more good than evil, more so than any country, though modern dogma and doctrine is highly anti-british and the mentioned video may show why.
